I believe that a company that is losing millions will use all their resources to fix what ever problem they have as soon as they can in order to start making a profit again.
I don't for one second believe that they are just sitting back and relaxing and saying "We will get to it when we get to it."

There's little doubt that they're working around the clock, but you have to call into question the competence of the people involved with the clean-up when you read the following article detailing how a hacker was able to obtain access files he shouldn't be able to by TYPING INTO GOOGLE! Dearie me...

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/13/us-sony-idUSTRE74C70420110513

I can only assume (which I must, since there has been no word from SONY) that the reason they are being so vague is due to their widespread incompetence, which in turn is leaving them with simply no idea when they'll be back online. Almost two weeks ago now, we were told, 'within a week', and then, 'at least a few more days' on Monday. I want to play online, it's how I unwind after work. I can talk to my friends and then blow their faces off - rinse and repeat. Sort it out SONY, or I'm off to get an XBOX 360 (and those are words I thought I'd never use!).

EDIT: The unfortunately named Bumgarner was able to gain said information just last week, by the way (for those too lazy to read the article in the link).

I'm sure they're using all resources at their disposal to get everything back up as fast as they can while ensuring that everything is much more secure than before. I do kind of agree with you though. The whole, "it'll just be a few more days, ok sorry it'll be next week, ok sorry it'll be a couple more days, sorry make that next week, now we can't give you an exact date but at least a few more days" does make you wonder what's going on. I can understand not having an exact date until certain things are in place but all the false promises do make them seem quite incompetent.

Oh well, I'm still surviving. Beat AC: Brotherhood, Got my first Platinum Trophy from GoW III, now it's back to FFXIII and if I get through that before it's back up I've got Fallout: New Vegas to check out. Single player ain't dead. :P

In my opinion they are still under hacker attack so they can't restore it.

Very well said
And I can't wait to spend some of my money on dlcs
But I understand as well that it takes time

Let's be realistic
Every employee can work continuously.
One all Sony said is they are working around the clock, which is realistic. I'd believe that employees are working over time. Also, if you can't believe that they are doing this think about the consequences.
No DLC sales
Probably a significant drop in console, accessory, and game sales
Because of current uncertainty.
I do trust Sony when they say the are working around the clock.
Also the reason for delays, I assume, are because of new problems found while repairing the system.
I trust that they will have the network up as soon as it is guaranteed to be safe

depending on how many people they have working on this, they prob changed people work schedule. a group of people will work during the day, another group in the afternoon and another group at night.

I could be wrong

You could be.... But you shouldn't.

Shift work is a MUST for gods sake.. :) 👍

Not just a must, but a definite in this instance. Due to the nature of this event, it's not costing just Sony (lots and lots and lots of) money, but many other companies (and not just now either, the long term ramiffications of this could be very damaging), it's 24/7 to get PSN and all the other services back up. Shift work isn't that uncommon in gaming, particularly in testing departments and situations like this. The industry isn't as bone idle as so many like to think it is ;)

After 25 days the picture I get is a bunch of people in white coats scratching their heads, rather than the frenetic activity you envision. I hope your right, but personally, I worry.

System software update is now available for download. It says it doesn't allow access to PSN but is mandatory.
Thanks for the link mcfizzle. 👍

Here's the memo....

PS3 System Software Update

Posted by Eric Lempel // VP, Sony Network Entertainment

We have been working on a new PS3 system software update that requires all PSN users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. The update (v3.61) is mandatory and is available now.

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN. This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.

We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online. The release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

You really believe that?

Why not? Every day PSN is down Sony is losing millions of dollars from investors, and losing out on the opportunity to acquire revenue from PlayStation store and Qriocity.

They are working hard for the sake of their survival.

My update has finished. Obviously, there are no changes to the XMB and I still receive the Playstation Network is currently undergoing maintenance when attempting to sign in. At least we are one step closer now.

Hmm, well it won't even download for me, 3 times now has got to 18% & then borked, think i'll wait for a few hours after some sleep.

I'm having this problem too. A UK issue, maybe?

People using their original PS3, did it prompt you to set a new password? Mine didn't, I'm on my second ps3, but I thought I had downloaded items with the new one before. I guess I'll have to change mine through the email.

I blame Jedward. 👍

I am trying the update again, 20% so far, hope it completes before I have to go for some beauty sleep. Need that more than the update. 👍

Nope, no password change prompt here.

Damn, well this is great news but I wonder when they'll let us know exactly what countries will be "phased in" first, or in what order. I know they've already said Japan's the priority so I'd reckon it'll be Europe next, then the rest of Us.
