for some reason, can't match them at Seattle. There's a grid or something as you come round through the first corner at the end of the back straight. It always throws me off balance and sideway into the walls..yet the AI seem to be able to run through there with impunity.
Those train tracks are even more fun in real life.

The Mariners game starts in 5 minutes...there's a huge freight train coming which will take at least 10 minutes to go by...the gates are lowering....GUN IT!!!!

Seriously though, you can learn how to compensate for the tracks, since your car will always understeer across them if you're turning. Just treat them like any other bump on any other circuit and learn how to adjust your driving accordingly.

On an off-topic note, can't PD update the scenery? The Kingdome met its doom 6 years ago, and the buildings that replaced it are much more pleasing to the eye :)

Just Curious, Could you actually drive that collection of streets in real life?

My hometown of Minneapolis hosted a couple of Trans-Am Series races about 10 years ago. The course consisted of a couple of one-way streets run the wrong direction, so to drive the course as a civilian would require some dangerous illegal moves.

The train track area also becomes one hell of a place for drifting/oversteer, too...but you have to really slow down and know what you're doing. ¬ Most of the time i don't feel confident enough to pull this off during an actual race, but i remember in the GT2 Seattle Enduro and other races i got pretty good at it in various cars. I've only managed it a few times in GT3.

You can drive on them but you definately CANNOT race there officially. Last year i was up in Seattle quite alot and managed to find the streets in the game...there's a thread in GT2 (gotta go find it brb) in which some fellow managed to tell us all the exact names of the streets and stuff. ¬

It's also been mapped out on Google Earth, though there are couple spots where the game designers took liberties, and a couple spots which are no longer passable in real life. For instance, the two chicanes by the train tracks are physically impossible to lay out (unless you want to crash through the door of the new Exhibition Center).

I'm not sure you can even drive the course, as many of those streets are one way, so you'd probably be going against the flow in a couple places.

True. Some of those streets are one way. Maybe you can bike it...

When i've got the time, i'm using the GT3 game i found on a 2nd hand memory chip i got off ebay to run a few practice runs around Seattle in the Polyphony. Found it a tad easier in the F1 the other bloke had, i think he must be running default settings, it was a little softer through the tracks than the one i'm running in my own game.

To Scaff...bloody amazing amount of work you put into all your set up information, great job, when i get the time i'm gonna try and see how i go with the basics of it. Much appreciated to any of the fellas who spend the time they do on settings etc and post 'em on here for the benefit of all.

Finally back in the game. Back into the Formula GT Championship, advice pprevious;y given most invaluable. Got through Seattle, won by 18 secs, after an easy win at Midfield, where i lapped the field. Using softer suspension, as suggested by Scaff, made all the difference around Seattle. On to Grand Valley next, setting myself one race a day.

I went and finally checked out Uncle Harry's 0 to 100% site. It's an interesting approach, but not my kinda racing. Seems like he kinda breezed thru the entire game. Whatever, though.

I like CHALLENGES. Like beating the Trueno S.S. or whatever it is with a stock AE86. Took me 5 tries, but finally I did it. Second place every other time. Unfortunately thats at my friends house, I currently dont have ANY GT anythig or any other games at all. :irekd:

Parnelli,
After playing GT3 for 3 years I set myself the challange of finishing GT3 in as little game days as possible using cars comparable to the AI. (I did blow away the Sunday cup, but the car was stock).

I never purposely overpowered a car for an easy win.
You will note that on many occassions I only added an oil change.

It was written as a guide to help others find out what is required to win races and to give an indication of the speed of the AI.

You saying, "I breezed thru the game", I will take as a compliment on my skill
and knowledge of GT3.👍

If my intention was to breeze thru the game I would have used the F1 car whenever possible, which I only used for the F1 races.

Believe me I spent many nights on other game saves on close races using underpowered cars.

Me too. I've done the 80's races so far (beginner & amateurs) with a regular Trueno, Silvia K's, and 300 ZX. The Corolla / Trueno was the most squeamish for sure!

Where the 'Uncle Harry' thread has helped me is to compare my times with how he went, particularly in the Formula GT races. I've just finished Grand Valley in 42'01.094, with a best time of 1'26.465. Having another set of times to compare with helps me see how much time i can still make up in comparison to a better driver, particularly as i rate myself a slightly better than average driver at best in the F1's.

And no, i'm not fishing. :dopey:

Where are you up to now, Parnelli?

Haven't been doing any GT3 this past week...seems i've regressed to GT2 (driving a TVR Griffith Blackpool in the GT World Cup). But i'm sick today with a low fever...so i'll get back to A-Spec soon....

Well, finally finished Professional League.Picked up 2 Polyphony 2's, one for winning Formula GT, and one for finishing Pro League. Just had 3 races to complete after that.

On the initial run the Formula GT, came 3rd at Leguna Seca, beaten by 54 secs. For some reason or other, the F1's seemed to get a real boost in power there, considering we had all come straight from the Test Course. Bastards careered away from me, but my driving was pretty erratic as well. Anyways, after getting the pointys i needed for the Championship, i headed back to get the gold. They say revenge is a dish best served cold. Whilst i disagree against violence, in particular revenge, as a matter of principle, i was forced to confront this at Leguna. On the rematch, I came out of the first left handed sweeper in front. Up the back stretch, and the black Polyphony 1 t-bones me, pitching me straight into the tyres at the Corkscrew. I manageed to work back into the race, eventually retaking the lead. This varied from between 1 to 4 seconds for the rest of the race, as i was driving a lot smoother, and got a good rhythm going. Last lap, black Polyphony has been putting me under pressure, making up plenty of time. We are coming up to the corkscrew, i have a lead of about half a sec. Bastard does it again, sending me flying, but fortunately, this time, i came down through the corner, facing the right way, and able to get a good jump off, but relegated back to second. We take the last right hander, then flying up to the last left hander with me trailing by just under a second. He slows down for the corner :D I pitch the prick straight into the sand, take the corner nicely, and take the win. Served cold, it never tasted so good.

Just got Tokyo and Cote to get all golds in GT and Pro league now. Am going to follow Harry's lead..use my F1 to run the Cote Enduro, to get a feel for the thing round there, then back to the F1 race. Then only the last 3 time trials to get, then will finish off the Tokyo Enduro to make the 100%.

That's cool. I can't wait to start hitting the pros. I've been back on GT3, doing some races on that card i erased. I've decided to stick with this memory card till i get thru the Amateurs...it's still taking forever. Fortunately i re-did the Euro Challenge yesterday morning (the 5 races at 3 laps each) and the game awarded me a Gillet, which i sold (no true redneck would ever race a car made in Belgium) :) This finally got some credits on that card so now i can afford to finally get some decent tweaks and buy some of hte more expensive cars...which i bought a CLK 55 to do the beginner & amateur Silver Arrow races.>

I went out last nite, had 2 Chesapeake ales and 3 vodka/cranberries; needless to say I was drunk by the time i hit the PS2. In the races, i got ahead of the leading Merc at Super Speedway, then i did one of those burnout skids across the finish line at the end...but like an idiot i started TOO EARLY which means i didn't cross the finish line early enuff and the 2nd place CLK WON. I was so pissed! I did the Beginner's race at Rome II and lost there as well. Again, it was cuz of my “condition”. I usually do qualifying / practice runs at Rome II but last nite i assumed i would ace it. Nope, i kept braking too late and stuff!

Managed to pass 4 cars as i blundered around, passed the leader (again, another CLK 55) but i started into that last turn too late (the massive blind one beofre the start / finish line) and i tapped the wall. The 2nd place CLK then drafted my sorry ass down the straight and passed me. Braked at the 50 mark into turn 1 (the sharp left-hander) which i usually woulda started braking at 100m. Whcih means i slid into the tire wall and the CLK got a firm lead on me.

Fortunately i did the race again and won. I also quallified in the AMateur Rome II race and won there, but taht was a tight race. The 2nd place CLK was right on my tail as i crossed the finish line... -.83 seconds behind me or something like that.

After winning the Amateur Benz race, i won & sold the Merc touring car (“it's not ‘Made in USA”) which got another nice jump in credits. Had over $600,000 at this point. So i bought a Ford Focus WRC and today i'm gonna try doing the Beginner's World Cup (the 10 races). I thought about using a Viper but that would be overkill.

👍 Great win Frenzal:tup:

I think us Aussies have a swear word the sensor does not know about.👍

A thimble usually prevents being pricked, but in Aussie a prick is not something we get from a needle.:scared:

Thanks Harry. I like to find words in different forums which ascape the dreaded ****'s. I found that in the yahoo sports forums i could get away with 'turd'.

Back to business. Bloody 78 laps at Cote gonna be tough. Not sure what i can do other than practice, the best i can get in a few runs with the F1's is sitting about 3rd in a field of 2 Polyphony 1's and 3 of the 2's. About 3 secs a lap down. Going to do the Cote enduro though, it's a matter of finding a couple spare hours, which i don't have at the moment.

Made a mistake too..when i bought a 2nd memory chip for the PS2, it had a GT4 game save on it. So i went out and hired GT4..now i battling being drawn away from GT3 to go and buy GT4, i can get it for $30 at EB Games at the moment. Trouble is, if i do that, i can see myself getting sucked into that.

That 'condition' can be quite a handicap when driving. Whilst i don't partake any more these days, i can remember the times, when after a few libations, i would attempt to play different games on the PC and old Amiga 2000 i used to own. Made 'finesse' work a little difficult. :dopey:

That Merc Series was a tough one as i recall, i seem to remember using a CLK 55 myself there. That particular race you speak of was particularly tough for myself as well. If i go back and rerun the whole game, i'm going to try using the SLK 320, similar to using the base car as Harry did in the 0-100%. I think i got that right. Bit lowbrow, old redneck Ronny refusing a nice race car..still, he picked up an easy 300K for it. I recall running that Championship many times, just to make some easy money.

Good luck with the rest Parnelli, sounds like you're back into things.👍

I am doing really well. Yah, ‘redneck ronny’ as you call him despises Mercedes....to him those are cars made for white-collar folk who shop at supermarkets and have nver killed a deer to survive. :indiff:

I'll race the Merc on another card eventually. The yuppy is keen to try it.

Anyways, I'm pretty much going straight across the Amateurs from left to right... After the Euro Challenge i bought a Ford Focus rally car, got all the turbos, and all the medium-grade tires. Entered the Gran Turismo World Championship (I-B...ten races / 5 laps each).

Boy that Focus surprised the hell out of me. In those first 3 races, i won purely cuz i could outbrake the AI. Again and agian they caught up to me but they couldn't match the brakes on my Focus!! Then it slowly began to fall apart. Eventually the Focus was outgunned with the power in some later races, and i made a few mistakes that cost me a couple extra wins.

I only won 4 out of the 10 races, but apparently this is not so bad cuz i still won the GTWC...the game gave me some other high-performance car...which i sold. :)

And then yesterday i was so impressed with my Focus i entered it in the Deutche Tourenwagen races. :)

I guess i never drove the Focus RC in GT2 cuz i'm just not into white cars. You can't get differnet racing schemes. So i chose the Focus out of convenience (i already had all the parts except soft tires!) I won the first 4 Tourenwagen races but in that last race one of the OPels got a huge lead on me. The remaining 4 cars kept gangin up on my poor Focus :(

But again, another win overall..and Dirk sold the Opel Astra Tourer (big surprise, huh?) :)

I think on my Vanilla Rice memory card i may see if i can follow Uncle Harry's path...i'll just do it with different cars. It just seems really interesting the way he did it and i'm always open to try somethign new.

I'm aproaching the 50 percent mark. I finished off the rallies first. then the beginner series. I'm actually dissapointed when I win an EVO now that I've won so many. I have tweaked one of the EVO rallycars mildly from the way I won it, and I absolutely love the handling. It's got a real nice transitional bit of throttle on understeer to trailing throttle oversteer. The 510 Datsun I drove as a kid was that way. I could go in a little to hot and if I eased up on the throttle, the back end would come neatly around to save it. I'd love to figure out how to make my FR cars handle like that. (especially the 300zx) I imagine it'll involve diff settings to achieve. I finally got through those slalom tests for the IB license, and get this, it was after a few India Pale Ales. I'm actually becoming pretty proficient running around Seattle. I used to dread it. I went back and did a couple of the series over just 'cause I wanted different prize cars. I just got the "BitchinCamaro" race car. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.
I found GT4 in the used rack for 11 bucks today. Haven't put it in yet. I may make the move just so I can have some Datsuns in the garage.

India Pale Ales are tasty! :) But the slaloms??? I hope you meant bronze...i'll kill myself if you somehow got a gold with a buzz on!

I've raced the Camaro Race Car. I like it but i don't like the way the engine / exhaust sounds...it's just kinda wimpy, doesn't make my adrenaline go. But it will crush. So far i've found i haven't had to add any power upgrades to win races, and i've done the Gran Turismo World Championship (IB) on medium slicks. Who knows, maybe i'll need all the extra power (stage 1 = well over 700 if i'm not mistaken) when i start the Pro League.

At this point, i'm not planning on finishing GT3's rallies, Arcade races, or Time Trials..i just wanna finish Sim mode on tarmac. Even if i race everyday it'll still take weeks, i can already tell that. And i wanna join the GT4 party, i'll admit it. :embarrassed:

GT3 is great, but i can see why people complain about it being repetitious. At least the reversed tracks are present to break the monotony.

Nahh, jus Bronzes, but I hadn't worked on them in some time because the closest I'd been previously was nearly a second short. I was starting to run out of events I could do with an A license. Maybe I just needed to be a little more relaxed. Gotta go do the Amateur R-Type now, After I look up some nice tuning. (gimme more oversteer) I tried one of the races to recon the series. The bone-stock Integra ain't gonna cut it here like in Beginner.

Oh phew! I'm like...if he's driving drunk and aceing the slaloms, i really suck!

Yeah, those Amateur Type R races were cool (except Stupor Speedway...10 laps! blea) The Beginner ones were too easy. I won those in a bone-stock Integra, then did them again in a stock Civic Type R. YOu'll need a few mods to win the Amateur version, but not too many. You basically just gotta keep up with the NSX if it shows up (all the others fall behind unfortunately).

'Stupor Speedway',eh. Wait till you get to the Formula GT Championship, 50 laps in the F1.

Have come to the conclusion that is nigh on impossible to win Cote d'Azur in the F1 unless i can drive using manual. Every time i brake down, the damn thing drops to 1st and locks up, making it impossible to turn effectively through the tight hairpins and the chicane below the tunnel. Going to use the Cote Enduro to retrain. :scared: Wish all 7 thumbs luck, gonna need it.

Had to force myself back to GT3, having picked up GT4, and got sucked into that.
