'Stupor Speedway',eh. Wait till you get to the Formula GT Championship, 50 laps in the F1.

Have come to the conclusion that is nigh on impossible to win Cote d'Azur in the F1 unless i can drive using manual. Every time i brake down, the damn thing drops to 1st and locks up, making it impossible to turn effectively through the tight hairpins and the chicane below the tunnel. Going to use the Cote Enduro to retrain. :scared: Wish all 7 thumbs luck, gonna need it.

Had to force myself back to GT3, having picked up GT4, and got sucked into that.

Yeah, i just got GT4 yesterday! I sat there for 4 hours getting my mind blown out again and again. That game is AMAZING. I will lose a good portion of my free time becoming a slave to it!

But that won't stop me from cruising some GT3. I did my first enduro a few days ago: the Grand Valley 300km! I've waited almost a year to start the enduros because i wanted to save the best for last.

Took the Ford Focus RC. I think i added a Stage 3 turbo (@528 hp) THAT was cool. I was surrounded by a couple NSXes, a Castrol Supra, and 2 Skylines. Yeah, i was in third place alot during this race. The NSX team got far ahead and each lap one of them would add almost a second!

I did some pit strategy moves towards the end of the race. Just as their tires were wearing out, i figured out that i could jump in the pit early and thereby be on halfway-warmed tires by the time they were driving on cold tires. And i started equaling their time instead of losing to them.

And then i pit on lap 48 or 49! I didn't think about what i was doing, i was simply trying to beat the leading NSX (i already passed one of them permanently) with pit timing. And then on lap 55 it happened: the final NSX drove in the pit lane! I had a clear win but i realized my tires were already yellow-bordering-on-orange! :scared:

So i did the final laps of the race as cleanly as possible...the left rear tire in particular was prone to burning up the way i had been driving so i decided to take it easy in those final laps.

But on lap 60, my LR tire was finally going red! It gave out once in the final chicane, and the NSX was about 8 seconds behind me! But i won. Yup!

Nice little story there Parneli, you could have elaborated a little more and put it in the race reports section. Its always good to read close races that people had. It really helps me to choose a car for a particular race so that I know what can compete.

Thanks, srpt23. Seems this thread is really a sort of journal at this point as me & frenzal take turns describing differnet parts of the game. I think it's pretty cool that hardly anyone posts here...all this info won't get lost in the soup :) You might wanna check my website out, too...it goes into detail about lots of cars.

Great wrap up mate. There's nothing like 30 or 40 laps of edge of your seat racing to get the circulation system pumping. I love the enduros when i take in a car of the same class as the AI. Did the Roadster again today, 40 laps around Apricot in stock MX-5's, giving myself some 'manual transmission' practice. I had a quick go at trying to use manual in the F1 around Cote (refer previous post), but found myself too inconsistent, so i've decided to use the enduros just to get used to manual. Found i was able to start getting into some sort of rhythm, so figure that with patience and practice, i should be able to get the hang of it. I did have some moments where i could see that it will certainly make a difference when i head back to Cote though. I'll probably spend a few weeks till i'm up to scratch, then head back to finish off the F1 Championship, Enduros and time trials.

On the subject of GT4, quite a few pros and cons.
Pros: variety of cars, notwithstanding overabundance of bloody same old Japanese cars;
tighter racing, particularly in beginner and professional leagues;
used car lots:
variety of racing classes and tracks;
ability to wipe clean series records and re-race to pick up various colour schemes of the different prize cars

Cons: no qualifying:
AI seem to get a boost in HP in later laps in most races, very unfair particularly as races are HP limited.

Yeah i was gonna ask about that. No qualifying is a huge bummer. What hte hell? And you can't even practice laps before a race. How are you supposed to know if you're handling is good or not? How are you supposed to know if your car matches the competition? I noticed in Arcade mode they include power and weight for all the Ai cars, but in sim mode it's no longer there. What the ****, man.

But everything else about it rocks. I don't mind the Japanese repeats...i kinda expected them. There are plenty of gems in that game! Also, the Ai gets a ‘boost’ later on in the races but isn't it because their tires are warmed up? That's one thing i really dig...all races (even 2-lappers) feature tire wear! And tires are also ....

....ah sorry...this is the GT3 forum of course, not GT4 :dunce:

So Meth Hed (recovering druggie) did the British gT Cup the other day in his Mustang Cobra R. That race at Trail Mountain is beautiful! 10 laps and the whole time you're neck-on-neck with the Lotus Motorsport :) I had to give my 'stang massive power--i forget how much, but that Lotus was still kicking my ass in about half the corners.

Finally in lap 6, the Lotus braked too late after the backstretch and went into a powerslide! I was right there to take the lead, but that lead was extremely fragile...the Lotus caught me & passed me once. But i managed a close win here! Yeah, talk about a rush.

Surprisingly, the races at Route 5 and Rome II weren't nearly as tough. I didn't need so much power here. At Route 5 the Lotus kept getting stupid and sliding into turn 2 (the giant curved tunnel). The TVR took the lead eventually (how could it not?) but i won with just a sports muffler and computer hooked up. Too easy. Rome II was tougher, mostly cuz the Lotus got a good early lead, but i caught him on Lap 6. After that, i was practicing my drifts! :D

Alright, time to report again. I'm up to 58% now. That Type R Amateur series went well despite the fact I wasn't happy with the handling. I tried several settings from the Vault and they all plow like John Deeres. The NSX kept me on my toes and beat me once. I really impressed myself with my drive at Cote. (Pat on back) managed some of the cleanest laps I've ever done there while fighting crappy handling. I think all I've got left of the amateur races are the ten race series. I have a hard time committing the time to do a series in one setting. If I save in the middle, I fear the kids will mess it up for me, when I'm gone.
I've spent short sessions working on Arcade Mode. I really like the Nismo 400R for these. I've had several slugfests with my nemisis; the Corvette Grand Sport.
I set up the Lotus Elise 190 for rally and used it to knock off Swiss Alps II in Arcade. That was fun, it's wicked fast and one needs to be gentle with the throttle to keep from spinning. It has no downforce goodies so you need to be careful about getting airborne. I've found a quick stab at the brake pedal just before you get to the top of a "Yump", helps lessen the flight and control the landing.
I also set up the 300ZX to win at Smoky Mtn II, another car that could be really fast with downforce.
I was dissapointed I couldn't get dirt tires for the Miata, Mustang, Camaro or NSX.

"I tried several settings from the Vault "

Can I get a link to said "vault"? I've been working out some tunes for some of my cars for awhile.

ha ha!! Hey what car did you use for the Type Rs? I've done these in both an Integra and a Civic. That's an ego boost, huh? Beating an NSX with a front-drive. :):dopey:

The Honda Integra. Yeah, you'd need one very tweaked Integra or Civic to put away an NSX in the real world. I used the NSX I won to finish off the Mid Engine races. I started with the Elise 190 but kept burning the rear tires off of it. I tried several settings off "the Vault" to no avail. So, I turned the Elise into a "rally beater" and tuned up the NSX. I saved the replay of the Elise at Alps just because it cracks me up.

The thing is, those NSX drivers are pretty dumb, that's really the only reason it's possible to win against them in the game in a front-drive. It's those moments when the NSx is braking too late for instance at Route 246 in the final turns that i always make a pass. Then it'll catch me eventually down the straight...but then it messes up again....slams right into the wall towards the end of the straight when it should be making a slight left turn. Anyone else notice this? :D

By the way...i'm currently trying the GV300 in a Camaro RAce car. Even tho it has over 600 hp, i'm racing with minimal downforce and actually the 2 leading NSX cars are keeping me focused....more later after i finish :)

LATER ON: It really sucks that only the first 30 laps of the race get recorded in the replay. For me, the GV300 in the Camaro really got interesting after my fourth pit stop (lap 32). I found my groove. I took turns battling the Arta NSX and then the other one! I mean, the first 30 laps were good, but i spent most of my time in 2nd or 3rd place....but the leader was way ahead...anywhere between 7 to 24 seconds ahead. In the last half of the race, I was neck on neck with the purple NSX no matter how hard i drove. I had been pitting every 8 laps before my front tires were orange. But i realized that this wasn't gonna get me to the end...so i started to extend my pits to 9 laps.

It seemed like a "his" and "hers" sort of race. My Camaro with its 600 horses dominated the straight sections, but after the 2nd hairpin at the bottom of the hill, the NSX with its downforce would always catch up to me. By the time i was in that last tunnel leading into the final chicane, the NSX would pass me...usually plowing into me! After awhile, i gave up...i just let the damn car pass...might as well. Because after the chicane, i was on MY side of the track...the horsepower side! And i would eventually pass her. :)

I really began to get my groove on in the forties and fifties. I would employ small tricks (a power slide into the long, curved tunnel, for instance) which oddly worked better for my CRC than straight driving. The NSX team could brake extremely late into these sharper turns i noticed, but the Camaro always needs to brake early and solidly well before the turn even starts UNLESS i did one of my power-slides. Now, these weren't full-opposite-lock drifts..these were just little slides.

Anyways, like i said, i managed to start to build a lead on the NSXes. I pit on lap 51...by the end of the race my right front tire would surely be red...but i knew the leading NSX would have to pit. And it did. Unfortunately, the purple NSX (the one that never left my mirror no matter what) also decided to take a pit somewhere in the 50's. So i won, a little too easily towards the end...but those 20-odd laps of swaping places with that NSX was pure adrenaline-heaven! 👍

Did anyone else find the Dream Car Championship in the Amateur league to be a major disappointment? Here i am in my Camaro RC qualifying 4th yet i won every single race. Not because of the 600 horses, but because the 4 leading cars take a stupid pit stop. And then i was left with the FTO LM (too slow). The ZZII did, however, give me a major challenge at Deep Forest. I won that race by .083 seconds. Wish i had saved the replay! :( All the other races were just mildly challenging, even with minimal downforce. I found the Test Track race to be kinda cool with Stage 1 tuning (754 hp)...the ZZ, RX-7, FTO, and i swapped places several times.

One great moment was at Apricot Hill. I had wiped out early in lap 1, turn 6 (long 180° turn) because i was cutting too far inside and my left front wheel cut into the sand...the Camaro sideswiped and the FTO passed me :D But lap 3 took the cake. Here i am in the final turn about to make a grand pass. The ZZ was right in front of me and i cut left to get by. Problem was...the Altezza LM was right in front of the ZZ, and he was trying to cut into the pit lane!

The ZZ slams into the Altezza, which is turing left--and here i am now being PUSHED INTO THE PIT LANE!!!!!!

But not far enough...i almost got caught up in the tire barrier but luckkly i had just a little room to manuver and got back on track. I had 2 laps left and managed to squeak by the ZZ in one of the final turns. This replay i DID save! :)

Haven't been able to get on much klately, due to dead PC, am currently at 99%, only three accursed timetrrials, 78 laps at Cote in Formula GT left, and what will be my last event, the Tokyo Enduro. Have been hooked into GT4 which hasn't helped either. lol Glad to see Parnelli and myself aren't the only ones till on our first run through this game. Good luck boys.

Well i'm around 62%. But I just picked up my own copy of GT4 last night so once again it looks like GT3 is going into hibernation. I tell you what though, I about broke the GT4 disk in half with this 5 second penalty bull$#!& :ouch: :irked:  🤬 :banghead:

Yeah, i gotta say, i'm not too happy about that either. There's a few things about the game that do irk me, Parnelli and I were discussing them (very quietly, as this is a GT3 forum) earlier in this thread. Once i get my PC back, i'll be spending a bit of time in GT4 here looking for a better rundown of the game.

Still trying to crack the last 3 time trials, missed TT8 by a lousy .043 of a second.!!!!!! That's the closest i've got to it,eh.

By the way, that's a very attractive storm trooper you got there. hehe

My copy of GT4 is hoaxed. I load it, do a race, but after the race everything dies and i get that stupid red circle glitch. The game willnot let me do anything else, it's frustrating. But GT3 still works fine.

Last nite BaBy PhAt started GT3 at the bottom: the Sunday Cup. BaBy is a raver chick, just finished her final races in GT2 so now she's moving up. Her boyfriend (Vanilla Rice) is a dj like Eminem. They're both of course crazy about anything Honda, Acura, Evo, or anything else ricers get crazy about. :) Anyways, she got a del Sol and totally ruled. I did the Sunday, Clubman, FF, and Spider/Roadster races completely stock with hardly any qualifying laps. Can't wait to enter the Amateurs in a Civic...that'll be a challenge.

Well, finally got my PC back, running as well as ever...well, slightly, anyways.

Finally knocked off TT8, went back to it the other day, first run was 2.5 seconds slow, second run got my third best time, and third run beat the Japanese fella's time by .1 of a second. A nice smooth run that just came together. only need to find 1.5 seconds at TT9 at Tahiti, then will have a concerted go at the String. Haven't really done much with that yet. Then will only have Tokyo Enduro and last race in Formula GT at Monaco to get my 100%. That race has been a real bastard, can't seem to put some smooth laps together there.

On a side note, was...nah, hang on, that's GT4 business. Just a quick one though, Parnelli, GT4 does have qualifying, but to the best of my limited knowledge of the game so far, only in Championship events.

I just finished the pro level GTWC last nite (took me 2 nites). Man i know alot of people bitch about the 10 races / 10 laps, but after that first race at Grand Valley in my Oreca Viper i was smiling :) cuz THIS is the race series i've been waiting for.

I actually started over and reset my game till the Mazda 787b, Toyota GT-1, and Nissan R390 all showed up. Finally, i had some real competition, man...no more pansyness; no more minimizing downforce or using sport tires cuz the AI is too easy. Now i could go ALL OUT BABY

The Toyota has to pit in every race cuz its tires are too soft, but that's okay cuz the Nissan and Mazda were pretty swift. In some races, i even had to use full Stage 2 power (947 hp i think) and those cars STILL had me jazzed!

I lost at Apricot Hill II, some other race...and i skipped Super Stage Route 11 reversed...that's a CRUEL trick, PD...all the sudden throwing SSR11 in the middle of a race series like that. :ouch: I mean, it would be cool if they gave you some slower races in Beginner's and Amateur league to get you used to it. Whatever.

I actually find SS11 reverse easier than normal SS11. Just the way the corners flow in the other direction is different than running normal direction. The GTWC is a nice challenge if you take a 'competitive' car (not an easy win car), although the fact that the AI cars use soft tyres and need to pit can be a pain. I tend to use either Slick or Super Slick tyres and try to run without any pit-stops. I find the longevity of the tyres more than make up for the lower grip at the start, and by the time some of the cars have pitted once, twice or even three times, you end up out in front anyway.

Yeah, shabba, i can see that. The thing is, i've done at least fifty races at Route 11 in sim mode, not counting all the practice laps...wheras you aren't made to to SSR11 reversed till the Pro level...so if you haven't been practicing it...

Anyways, time was of the essence. I spent 2 evenings completeing the series (gotta go to bed at some point) so i didn't want to do like 20 laps around SSR11-II for practice. The cool thing about the Pro-level GTWC is the Mazda, Esperante, and Nissan R390 don't take pit-stops, so even tho the Toyota GT-1 has to pit, you've still got your hands full with those other demons.

Gidday all.
Im new to this forum and i love it! GT is THE BEST EVER video game of all time. If you're into cars and dont have GT theres something wrong with you, i believe.
Anyway, down to business, i was just wanting to know if any1 else uses both of the analog sticks like I do. I believe there's more control, although every button is touch sensitive.

Yeah, i've been an Analog player since my gT1 days. I initially started with buttons (in GT1 they're not touch-sensitive) but found analog to be alot more controllable. Also when i was a kid i had several Radio control cars, and all the good ones tend to use 2 sticks for control. It just makes sense to me to do the same in GT.

I use the D-Pad. I wish the PS2 controller was like the Xbox, and the D-Pad and L3 would trade places, and I wouldn't mind using the triggers for Acelerate and brake, but it is fine.

Anyway, I just finished GT1 (YAY!) and I've been playing through GT3.

Using AT, I got about 65% until I got corrupt data. Now I'm finally doing it over.

I'm trying to learn Manual Transmission. I completed B, A, I-B and R licenses and beat the Sunday and Clubman Cup. Just won a Miata, and I want to do the Roadster endurance, but I can't pass IA-8.

Very cool! Check out my site

You can ignore the pound-to-power system if you want, but i think it's a pretty good guide to what you'll face in some races to come. I just did the Laguna Seca Enduro in my Oreca Viper this weekend. I actually lost the race...we're talking about a two hour race, and i friggin lost it. I didn't realize that the AI cars don't lose power towards the end of the race the way you do, so about 60 laps in...all the sudden i couldn't keep up with the leading Viper anymore. :(

Now that i know this, i'll attempt the race again in my Oreca, but i'll try to drive more aggressively in the beginning of the race so i get an early lead. :sly:

I've checked out your site before. Very nice site. I've been considering making another GT3 0-100% guide. Nothing like Sportwagon's though, who starts out getting all golds in the License Tests. A guide for the player that isn't very good at GT.

I was stuck, but your site gave me an idea of what to do next. Thanks.

Don't know if the Miata MX-5 (J) can compete with the tougher Miatas, so I'll use it in the Spider & Roadster Cup.

That's something that would be a good idea: a site that goes from zero to 100% but strictly for beginners. I"m not even sure i could write something like that! My site is for the guy or gal who loves all kinds of cars, but is also easily bored with winning over and over.

It's nothing but a bunch of guidelines really, a place to -start-. I've kept raising my own personal racing bar higher and higher till the point that i find the races challenging with my system, yet not impossible. I'm not trying to frustrate myself!
