Point of fact, this is not precedent setting.
In 1973, flags were flown at half-staff (ships have masts and presidents aren't sworn in on ships) during Nixon's second inauguration because Truman had passed away fewer than 30 days earlier. Why does 30 days matter? Because in 1954, President Eisenhower, a Republican, issued a proclamation establishing the convention of flying the nation's flag at half-staff on government buildings for that period of time following a former president's passing.
I don't think we should abandon such a convention because this pathetic bitch so desperately needs to grab its ankles for its bronzer daddy.
