Point of fact, this is not precedent setting.

In 1973, flags were flown at half-staff (ships have masts and presidents aren't sworn in on ships) during Nixon's second inauguration because Truman had passed away fewer than 30 days earlier. Why does 30 days matter? Because in 1954, President Eisenhower, a Republican, issued a proclamation establishing the convention of flying the nation's flag at half-staff on government buildings for that period of time following a former president's passing.

I don't think we should abandon such a convention because this pathetic bitch so desperately needs to grab its ankles for its bronzer daddy.

STOP ERASING OUR HISTORY!

So many similarly named places in North America finally creates an issue that the US ejucashun system cannot handle.

It has to be agonizing for conservatives now-a-days, the littlest thing on TV/Internet sending you into a tizzy on Twitter instead of ignoring it or changing the channel, or perhaps paying attention to what's being relayed to you if it has to have an ASL interpreter present.

I have to say, my first reaction to the image was "Oh, that's probably AI...", my second reaction, "What kind of prick builds advertising hoardings that monopolise human spaces so much in the name of being seen by passing motorists..." then I though, yeah, it's America... so that checks out.. yeah. Then went to find it...

.. and actually it doesn't block the pavement as much as it looks like it does... so now I'm wondering why the beggar is block the cycle lane, and not the pavement... like if you're begging, why are you there? A block Northish are some transit stops... beg there...

My informed guess is that person is not begging but just blasted out on some narcotic. I actually don't even remember the last time I encountered somebody asking for money in SF. Most of the homeless just seem to shuffle around the city seemingly oblivious to anyone or anything else also being there...

"Suddenly appear".

These are the same people you just know, follow any natural disaster event waiting to politicize it, and yet... have never seen an Interpreter during any of them? I remember seeing one during Katrina.

A lot to unpack here.

I don't know. Maybe instead of being focused on an individual who is there to actually help people, how about asking why there are always multiple people lined up behind the speaker who are apparently there for window dressing and do not speak. And I've seen closed captioning get the wrong words many times. I know nothing about ASL but I would think it could convey more expression and tone of the words being said instead of just being printed on a screen.

Not like it wasn't lampooned 50 years ago by the SNL News for the Hard of Hearing.

Closed captions are great for the hard-of-hearing (or anyone really), but deaf or nearly deaf people would want the additional information offered by sign language.

Lots of people have a problem with seeing closed captions on the screen even, at least until they adjust. Then they start to appreciate the dialogue that they were missing earlier in films/games.

Sadly often at the expense of catching the nuance of the actor's performance as one squints at the tiny text at the bottom of the screen.

Nope. At the bare minimum, in my case, I am able to see the actor's performance and the captions at the same time. I don't spend the entire duration of the dialogue reading the "tiny" text (most websites, services and games that offer subtitles also offer options to change size and visibility of said subtitles). Anyone who's accustomed to the captions will skim the text, get the gist of the dialogue, then focus on the performance. It takes essentially no time.

In that case you need seeing aids. :P

It could also take away from intended timing I suppose, if you know what they are going to say before hearing them say it. Never had an issue with missing facial expressions though, I guess I'm a fast reader. Being born with a hearing loss in both ears gave me super powers. :P

Likewise. Profound hearing loss in both ears over here, needed a CI surgery back in '07 so I could continue hearing.
