Soundbars were something that caught my eye. More so for parts. I would prob rip the thing apart and wire the speakers so they could sit where they are supposed to.

Although the sony surround set i have ( bravia 5.1 5 disc) has come down to the sub 200$ range. May just pick ine of those up for my eventual build. Speakers are fairly small and would be easy to remove fron the housings and remount as needed.

That would be a mistake, especially with the Yamaha YSP sound bars. They're made with several small projectors that bounce sound. With the one I have it's got two surround speakers and a subwoofer and receiver. The sound envelopes you.

You're better off getting a dedicated set of small separates from Yamaha, Klipsch, or Onkyo.

Thanks, I edited my post in your thread.

Appreciated :) Let's move on!

Although my triple-screen setup is only 4 months old, I'm giving serious thoughts to using those projectors you have. The bezels on my current setup I honestly don't notice when racing but it'd be even better if they weren't there at all! ;)

I had triple 23" then triple 40". But the bezels annoyed me. Now I've got triple 46" no bezels and it's night and day. But for you I would recommend ceiling mounting real home theater projectors. I don't see a ceiling fan in the way in your setup. If my huge ceiling fan wasn't there I would have gone with viewsonic pro8200s. The Qumis while awesome are more because of necesity and lack of space on the ceiling.

Trust me though, triple projectors is the best immersion by far.

Awesome and thanks for the link for the projectors. It would be great if they made that projector without the 3D to sell them a little cheaper.

I was curious about your projection screen. Would it be better to make the one curved screen instead of the the 3 rectangle screens so there would be no lines or do you think it wouldn't make a difference?

Yeah, I could ceiling-mount. I'm just throwing ideas around in my head at the moment... :)

I'll dig up some info on those Viewsonics later. 👍

So im going to have to go for triple 50" then, lol..
Then greeze can go for triple 55"

You see whats happening here :)

I wouldnt underestimate 3D it can be great at times. I find even moreso with those Monstervison RF glasses. Much better blacks and picture etc than DLP glasses.

Think part of the problem is people expect like adverts show is stuff floating in your room. Most games rely on depth and you certainly get great depth in GT5, just very little pop out effects coming beyond the screen.

I still very much look forward to having triple projection 3D.

Curved screens will only work on PC and even then only with software like Warpalizer. To be honest the "line" which is just light bouncing from one screen to the next goes away from your vision after a minute. I don't have any visible black seems because I covered them with white paper ;). Just use a small amount of Elmers glue and you have no visible seams. Look at my first pics, the paper is installed and no seems. If you search my threads you'll see photos of my 100" curved screen rig. It was fun, but to be honest the triple screen is better and easier to set up.

The most important thing is no bezels.

Let me know if you have any other questions

I have a question...

What is your favourite game with the screens, from a graphical and immersion aspect?
Any particular favourite or car, track choice?

Hmmm, that's tough. I am loving both GT5 and Forza on this. GT5 needs to get patched to allow head tracking in career.

I'd say the driving games on all platforms are really great.

If you want to leave a stain in your underwear though, play Alien vs Predator on this. Lol FPS so far are the most immersive, but probably because it's just more open. So far everything rocks.

Edit: Added a YouTube video. Please forgive the quality the camera is not HD and it was duct taped to my head which was quite painful. :P

Guys wanted to update you. I finally took a video with the camera duct taped to my head. So forgive any crappyness. Also the Camera is far from HD. You will see banding and color shifting. This is not the case when you are playing. Its the fact that the camera can't capture the DLP projectors quickly enough and will show color shifting and banding. just wanted to clear that up in case it scares people from DLP projectors. They are magnificent, the picture an immersion is complete. :D

I duct tape the camera to a hat and used both my fisheye lens and a normal lens so as to give you two perspectives. I'll take more videos of Gran Turismo an PC with head tracking. Hopefully I will get a HD camera soon. Forgive the blurriness.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Wow...

On screen material/panels. I am using a sintra (foamed PVC) sheet I got at plastic supply shop based on a recommendation on avsforum.com. As-is it is pretty decent. Cost about $30. They also Just an idea.

I may have missed it but how did you pick the screen size?

My screens are WilsonArt Frosty white Laminate, also recommended from AVS forums. :P

I chose the triple 46" because I originally ordered three Samsung UD46 8000 series slim bezels. When they were delivered I had an idea to use projectors instead. I sent the TVs back and saved 3800 dollars using the WilsonArt laminate. Its a fantastic screen material. Just don't roll it up, make sure to bring a pick up truck and lay it flat. Once you roll it, you'll never get it straight again. Trust me. I had to get it twice.

I'm just so pissed that my camera is so crappy. It totally destroys the effect.

I have three different videos spliced there. One on a tripod. One duct taped to my head with normal lens. And one duct taped to my head with fisheye lens.

Can you link me to the material you used? I am building another rig and don't want the hassle of the laminate. Its a nightmare to work with.

From a Google search:
http://www.tri-dee.com/Sintra sheets information.htm

The store I bought mine from (San Francisco Area, Tap Plastics) has a site, but doesn't have anything useful on it about the material.

I bought mine locally as a 4x8' sheet. Cuts easily but there is static and plastic dust stuck to it when you are done. It is easy to clean though. It hangs nearly straight - straight enough for a projector. In the size you are using you might want to use some light bracing or backing to stiffen it a bit since it doesn't look like it will be hanging.

So the screen is about 100" and I am using an Epson 8530. There is a hot spot on the image but it isn't too bad. Overall it is bright enough in day light and just gets better as the light goes down.

Did you read about the different paints AVSforum developed for gain and color balance?

Yeah, but I didn't need any of the paints. I originally tried those paints on another material. But it wasn't as good as the WilsonArt. The WilsonArt laminate produces no hotspots what so ever. Like I said the material is brilliant as a projection material, its bright and clean, no artifacts. But man, the entire process to get it to that point is a pain in the ass. If you are going to work with Laminate here is my suggestion.

Definitely use it because its cheap and its brilliant. But make sure to take your time, have plenty and I mean plenty of straight edge cutters, super sharp. Also, this is essential, you must have a very large straight edge square ruler. Without it you're sunk.

Keep scoring until you go through the material, make sure to project your floors or you'll ruin them once you go through the material.

Hey Don't forget about Do-able board. If you have it at your home depot it's ultra cheap easier to setup and the result is the same as WA. The only advantage to WA is you can buy pieces larger than 4x8.

Hmmmm, my Home Depot didn't have that. Do you have a link? for the second rig I'm definitely looking for other options. I love the WA but I don't want to go through that again.

OK going to bookmark that thread, but unfortunately here in CT the filthy scum employees won't cut anything saying that they could be sued if they cut it wrong. Sigh, what a bunch of lazy asses.

Mayman, sorry if you already went into this, but have you three 360's and tried running FM4 in triple-screen as well as GT5? I'm working on Forza now but having strange Host/Client issues (the two side screen 360s keep randomly restarting at the same time when loading a race and then have trouble reconnecting to the host.)

I've got two copies of std Forza in the side screens' 360s, but my main 360 for center screen is the limited edition. Hope that isn't causing issues? I've gotten it to work sometimes but it's very intermittent and frustrating when it often restarts the side screens' Forza game just as the race is loading. Once they restart, they stick on "connecting" instead of "connected" in the multi-screen info page that loads. Any particular order to power up and load these consoles/games?

@mikemav: The different versions of Forza may be the issue. I was under the impression that all three need to be the same version (i.e. all 'Limited' or standard etc). That's the info I had for Forza 3 anyways... :) There's no particular order of start-up required.

Also, how are you hooking the XBoxes up? Wired (best in my experience) or wireless?

The issue is not the version of the game. I used a platinum hits version with 2 regular edition forza 3's and that worked fine for it. Your problem is network related. I had a similar issue and ended up just connecting them all using a different switch and it worked right away.

Thanks, yeah I saw a how-to video on YouTube and he was using only one limited edition w/ two standard. I think I'll try a different switch like you suggest. Very frustrating. I assume once it is working right it's pretty reliable? I'd hate to think triple-screen is always this glitchy after all this time and $$ I've invested in the idea!

Mike its super reliable, I haven't had a single issue. You turn on the Xboxs in any order you want. The two side clients, once setup, will forever start in client mode and will be in the "Connecting" state until you fire up the center host.

As for the different versions, I was under the impression that they had to be the same so thats what I use and have no problems. I have a 8 port Cisco Switch connected to my Cisco router and have zero issues.

FYI, the contect has to be the same on all the consoles. In other words if you download a map pack, you have to download it to the other two. Just log on to them with your gold account and download it. Then its OK.

The initial setup is not hard. Set your screens for zero degress hidden and 47.5 degree angles. I achieved the best most immersive view with this.

Hope this helps.

I'll be doing another video soon.

Correct one gold account. And two silver free accounts. Just go to hotmail.com and create a couple of email address like Myforzarightscreen and myforzaleftscreen at hotmail.com. Then you will have two silver accounts and name them the same as the email so you don't forget them. :)

And whenever you download cars or tracks just log on as the gold member and download to each and you're all set. Easy peasy. forza is sooooo fun.

Okay, already have silver on the other two and patched them current. I need to check to see if I already put some of the content which comes w/ the limited edition on the main console. Will that show up looking under storage in the console settings? If it's there, I wonder what I can do? Can I copy that content onto the other two? Delete it? Recover my gold gamer tag temporarily (or move it using USB stick) to the side consoles and re-download that content? I know I have not paid for any additional DLC but believe IIRC that a card came w/ the limited edition w/ a code to redeem some additional cars which were included with the ltd edition package. Now that I'm well into my career using that disc, am I screwed trying to go triple-screen w/ that as my main host? Hope not.
