CyberPunk 2077

Taking account that the RX 6800 is more powerful than what is in the new consoles and Control is less computationally heavy than Cyberpunk, I believe the new consoles will probably achieve 30 fps at 1080p with ray tracing.

I hope they don't go down the ray-tracing route for consoles and end up hampering the resolution because of it. I'd much rather have the visuals improved across the board without ray tracing and have the game run at 4k 30fps (or near that with checkerboarding). The screen space reflections currently implemented are pretty good so I honestly wouldn't mind sticking with those.

Extremely dense area's that have lots of foot traffic seem to give the One X an issue every once in a while. Issue becomes more prominent if you're just trying to run through fast, but if you slow down it sorts it out after a couple seconds. There's this one market type area in particular that seems to have it bad, I just don't remember where it is. Have had about 6-8 crashed over 20~ hours of gameplay, way more than any game I've played as of late - yet I'm hooked though.

Decided to go for the Technical Ability as I tend to craft in games more often than not and so far I've been loving it. I somehow made an overpowered katana that deals around 600 DPS and with boosts to attack speed it kills ridiculously fast at my point in the game lol. I'm focusing on a crit chance build right now, so far have it stacked around 25%, and 35% with a specific pistol I use.

Ideally we would have a choice. 1080p/4k fps modes, 1080p/4k quality modes and 1080p quality with raytracing. This is looking more like pc gaming each generation. There's been a lot of focus on ray-tracing, but perhaps we're a generation or half too soon. Though we're only in the beginning of this gen, so there should be improvements on the development side.

It's hard to say because most games are using a hybrid rendering approach, using both rasterization and ray tracing. For this hybrid rendering, I think true unaided ray tracing is definitely a generation or two away, but it still requires a beefy hardware, so it probably won't become mainstream for another generation after that. There are less than a handful of games that are truly 100% ray traced (Minecraft RTX) and those games are almost just playable unaided.

The only reason ray tracing is being hyped up is because of Nvidia's advantage in AI over AMD. The idea of ray tracing has always been possible, but Nvidia made a breakthrough innovation with DLSS and their denoising algorithm to reduce the number of rays being calculated. AMD is far behind in this aspect. Which is unfortunate as all the consoles are powered by AMD. This can most be seen in those Minecraft RTX benchmarks.

Nvidia's main selling point now is their RTX implementation so everyone else is trying to "hey me too" which causes the poor performance as no one can compete on their level yet

This would be the ideal solution for me. I'd love to be able to play it in a performance mode but then switch to a quality mode equivalent for photos!

Still enjoying the game, pretty far into act 2, but can’t help but feel disappointed about how little choice there is in dialogue. All the options seem to be just different flavours of the same answer. There don’t seem to be any missions that unlock or lock based on your actions, just based on your level. It’s still fun enough finding new weapons and cyber wear, but I don’t know how much longer that will be the case for.

At the moment, I’d rate the game as 7/10, just purely based on what’s there without considering bugs and graphics, which is much lower that I could expect. When I saw some people give it a similar rating before the game came out I figured they are really bringing the score down from all the bugs, but reality is what we were expecting vs what we got is just really bad. Probably the best mission in terms of player choice and options is the second one where you go get Flathead. After that most missions are much more linear. Yes, you can technically approach them slightly different, but not to the extent of what videos and articles were promising. I wonder if they will eventually make changes or if DLC will improve on what’s there. Hope so.

Thought a similar thing with conversations, but I kinda get the feeling, particularly story wise, that it is meant to gona very particular way and the main variation will be the life path you choose. Still fun though. Choice better than none.

This game seems to absolutely eat the base last gen consoles, some scenes hitting as low as 15fps in action sequences and the game spending significantly more time under the cap that on it. A lot of people are claiming that its close to unplayable unfortunately. Better on the pro/X, but far from perfect.
I see

I guess i have no choice but to buy a ps5 first so i can enjoy playing it without having to experience such issues. Hopefully most of them will be fixed already by that time.

Wow, no wonder they made the announcement for last-gen console refunds.

The Xbox One runs the game at a max resolution of 1440 x 810 and can drop down to lower than 720p. The shadow quality, texture quality, volumetric fog are at a lower quality than the One X. The asset loading and switch from low to high LOD models also take much longer to load than the other consoles. The game can completely freeze waiting for assets to load. The guy at Digital Foundry said he waited a whole minute for the game to unfreeze. Afterwards it dropped to around 15 fps. It seems to never hit 30 fps, seems to always be in the low 20 fps.

The Xbox One X runs the game at a max resolution of 2976 x 1674 and can drop down to 1188p. The minimum resolution is equal to the maximum resolution of the PS4 Pro. This is most likely because the One X has 4 more GB of RAM than the PS4 Pro. The One X has the same graphical settings as the PS4 Pro, it only runs at a higher resolution. It can run at 30 fps in doors, but once you're driving it drops down to the low 20 fps.

They mentioned it again that GTA V ran at the mid 20 fps for the PS3 back then.

I don’t quite understand what made them think this was an acceptable state to launch the biggest game of the generation in. The PC version is excusable, but the console versions are just awful. Why not release the PC version first then work on the console release later? It just seems so obviously damaging to the brand, and really foolish after spending so long crafting such an awesome game world. It would be like if Ferrari released their next car without wheels because they ran out of time. Like okay, you did most of the work, but that last little bit is kinda important guys.

I'm new to the Xbox world as I just bought one mainly for my kids to use but like the look of this title. I see talk of the Xbox One X @ImaRobot @MagpieRacer and that it's ok on that console.

So is the general consensus that at the moment it would be fine to purchase this for the Xbox Series X?

Im loving this game so much, I am on PC and I have not suffered from any major glitches in my 20hrs playtime so far and i have had zero crashes. From what i have read im quite lucky, The only thing that made me reload a save was when Jackie refused to move in a doorway in the Maelstrom base and i couldnt get out but thats pretty much the worst i have had. Im running at 60FPS most of the time but that dips when in the city centre and other heavily populated parts of the city. If they can improve performance slightly and add some quality of life improvements along with all the great DLC and add ons we will inevitably get with this being CDPR it has a bright future.

Things i was especially impressed by were the Gunplay mechanics and the Vehicle driving and details. I was worried that the driving would be very Watch Dogs like with very rigid and plain handling but the cars have a nice weight to them and all drive slightly differently. I just wish they would improve the braking so it wasnt so squirly and the way the wheels lock all the time. The detail in the models are phenomenal, My personal favourite being a Cyberpunked RTR Mustang like thing. So cool.

Apparently it plays pretty good on the brand new consoles, just not the outgoing models :)

The death threats and constant complaining about postponing it and the countless memes and bullying basically.

Choose from these atributes = High Quality | Short development Time | Great Performance
You can only pick two.

100% this. They've known for a while the outgoing consoles were going to struggle, even stating as much in the previous notes regarding the delays and that they were struggling to optimise it for older hardware.

This article is from January, https://www.altchar.com/game-news/c...t-gen-consoles-new-source-claims-aRRcH8e4RHYT

Within which is clear that the base hardware was going to be a massive struggle. So the fact it is struggling on base hardware is neither new nor surprising.

Everytime there were murmurings of delays and then actual delays, CDPR were getting destroyed, and as you say, the most recent delays resulting in death threats among other things. Which is frankly unacceptable in any walk of life for any reason let alone a video game being pushed back a few weeks.

I imagine CDPR will have talked early about canning the base console/previous gen versions and just focussed on the next gen, but they still have targets to hit and a massive fanbase to keep happy. It would have been a move that got equally criticised and hated. Putting them between a rock and a hard place no matter what.

What base console players need to remember and understand is it released after 10 months of delays, almost specifically because those versions were poor. So it could have been worse, and there will be no magical fix that suddenly makes it look like it does on the more powerful hardware.

I'm a good 25-30 hours in and I think the most obtrusive issue is the crashing. over 4-5 hours of game play I'll probably average 1-2 at least. You'll encounter some FPS drops during heavily crowded area's but outside of that the game runs well for the most part. Haven't noticed any major drops during firefights yet or anything else major outside of that so far.

Hope it will look like that one day on the PS5...
Can’t agree with the vehicle physics though. I’ve not played the latest Watch Dogs, but even the two previous ones had much better driving than Cyberpunk. It’s just like what you said about WD - stiff and plain. I was surprised to hear positive comments about it in some reviews. The best way I can describe driving in this game is this - drive using WASD on a keyboard in any game on PC and then drive with a controller in Cyberpunk - you’ll get the same feeling.

I'm getting close to the end of Act I. So far it's been pretty good. I've only had one crash (PS5), which actually happened in photo-mode. I didn't release expect bug free gaming given how Witcher 3 was released. The game doesn't seem as open as I thought it would be. There are only a few choices you can make, but I can live with that. Also the NPCs seem a bit stiff. They don't really react to you. I think working on those two would make the game play feel a bit more consequential and the atmosphere more convincing.

I will agree about the car handling. I've gotten used to it, but it was very weird at first. Third person view is a must for me.

CDPR - Delay the game and work on issues plaguing base consoles while simultaneously fighting off death threats with every delay, threats against families, constant criticism for employment conditions and losing money with every delay.

Release the game in an terrible state for base consoles and hope it doesn't backfire, despite saying back in January that base consoles were struggling and you're doing everything you can but it is a massive challenge.

Fixed it for you.

Fixed it for you.
I feel bad for the company. They managed to get into a situation where it was either unhappy gamers sending death threats over delays or unhappy gamers complaining about an "unfinished" game.

I'm sure if people were more reasonable about things then CDPR would have delayed it one more time, but said 🤬 it a glitchy launched game is a whole lot less stressful to deal with. Not to mention all the player data/ game crashes must be valuable in making fixes to the game.

Honestly, my experience so far is no worse than playing Fallout 4 at launch. Patches will come, things will be fixed.

Yeah you've nailed it there. The so called hard-core fanbase should be holding themselves partly to blame, for the poor reactions to delays. Like you it hasn't been too bad for me bug wise, 1 crash and a couple minor graphical glitches, here or there, nothing crazy. Definitely played far worse at launches. Obviously for base consoles its more than just bugs and glitches but even then I think a lot of the criticism has been around the lack of communication around the state of those console versions.

I think they should've done the same thing as Witcher 3, although maybe on a tighter timeline. Release it initially on the PC, work out the bugs there and then focus on ironing out the console experience. Though at this point it seems like the base consoles require a lot of work. I wonder if they can eventually deliver decent performance for those.
