Well, dipping my toes into the FIA waters went about as well as it could have possibly gone last night, ended up winning both races. Manu was a pretty uneventful race, scored pole and ran away with it from there. Nations was another story, messed up my Q laps and ended up starting 8th, spun out in T1/L1 and dropped back to 19th, only to claw my way back and get the Dub in the end, it was a fun race. Overall it was a great first experience with FIA races and I’m looking forward to getting into more of these races in the future. :)

quite spectacular sir! Can't believe you tackled that track with TCS0.. having said that i've never driven that car in the rain - even so, great job. The guy in P1 after 12 laps must have been ready to put his foot through the screen when he scraped that wall

Two things. A picture is worth a thousand words, and if i have nothing nice to say, say nothing....

1571333988568768204993.jpg

I spent way to many laps chasing that time and getting increasingly more agitated....

Does anyone else find the "hit and run" tactic to be far too common? I don't know if I am using the right term. It's when the other driver hits you, or you tap them slightly, in retaliation for a pass and they drive off track to give you a penalty. I'm seeing it in every race. I stopped putting a lot of effort into the Q time, which means I start lower down the order, and this hit and run tactic has no punted me all the way down to DR B and SR C.

I'll have some fun coming back, but it's still a baloney exploit. I hated this penalty when it was introduced and I hate it more now. The penalty should be based on contact force and contact duration, not whether or not someone went off track.

Some people are more game to it than others...

There's a certain chap, who hovers around DR/C, who enjoys a nice little detour of track after he's made contact... I've caught him 'on film' twice...

If I you wanna pull apart his psychology, I'd say it's a self preservation tactic to avoid him getting a penalty himself. But you can't not know the consequence for the other guy so whatever the motivation, it's not cool. Sometimes you just gotta hold your hands up and take what's coming.

Problem is, I'm now always wary of him when we're sharing a grid. I tend to just let him go, because I'm not convinced we can 'race' without me coming off worse in some way.

Here's the video from my "fun 'n games" moment yesterday evening in Race B...Started 5th, battled up to second, when..........

I think he was miffed that I passed him fair and square, with a sweet move on the last lap, and he didn't even get a penalty for his dirty move.....The "boozy" PSN ID might explain his crap driving!

Hey hooooo!

Without being there i cannot know for sure, but it looks like you are giving him a few punts in the chicane before the "clean move" which would naturally make him lose momentum going into the fast right hander..

It was close, but I never touched him my friend....He was a little laggy, - which might give that impression - but not as much as it was in the replay, He got a big power on oversteer slide coming out of the first left/right chicane, that lost him a little momentum into the following corners where I nailed him, but no contact was made. :)

I was up to a clean streak of 6 on DT: Seaside until this idiot came by. He crashed earlier and was in a hurry to get by not paying attention to traffic at all. Full speed into the wall into me.

Then the game won't reset me and I don't want to hit the walls to lose the crb
ClZVOjO.gif

I guess I lost the crb when the dq timer came up :(

Umm they're sleeping, I guess. No disconnects. This is how many people signed up for the race.

Yes they are, it is 8:25 am here in NZ, everyone else is earlier than that. This does happen in certain morning races. Had a couple on Fuji with only 5 or 6 people. Got a busy morning though so probably won't be able to get on and catch up with you today.

@Sven Jurgens it sucks but at least I know I am not the only one to get screwed by that no reset issue. Happened to me a few times on different tracks. After that it seems you are just finishing to salvage SR and take advantage of rage quits.

I hate the Tokyo Expressway barriers. So much so that if I get a 5 sec penalty for making contact I just quit the race, don't see any point in wasting time trying to chase the grid after that

Today I moved my setup to another room away from the router and hard connection. Did my first race over wifi. I didn't notice much difference. I think I'll stick with it.

Tried Race B. Lexus. Lost control on that turn @Sven Jurgens was talking about, ended up in the sand, reset to the back. Made back a few spots but overall finished 3 lower. Aside from that 1 error, I had a fun race.

It's more the combination of poor wifi connectivity and then distance to server that's going to be the issue. @Famine posted a good one a couple of weeks ago explaining the physics.

If you've got a solid AP, a high grade fiber line, decent bandwidth and not far to go. You can get away with it pretty well. Because even if you do drop some packets of data through the air, it's not going to take as long for the next packet to arrive and be calculated/made up for.

But if the data's got further to travel, it'll take longer, and therefore take longer to catch up and so those missing packets suddenly get a little bit harder to cater for and then the game has to start guessing.

And there can be so many other mitigating factors causing packet loss its a mine field.

Hard connection in will be more consistent in theory. Though having said all that, if your cat/dog/child regularly has a go at chewing through your copper ethernet cable then you'll find the wifi probably is more reliable!!!

Loads and loads of factors to consider though, most of them completely out of your own personal control. And for the ones you can control, the gains will be so minimal, you might as well keep a happy house and use the wifi than drag cables all over the place.

Just don't tell me boss I said that. Or he'll start to question why our server room looks like it does.

Have to disagree. I was watching for that specifically. I had full bars the whole race. Raced close a few times and it was as smooth with my hard connection.

I've seen players with full bars act like they're a 1 bar in races. Full bars do mean very little, at least with my experiences.

I've even raced behind @Sven Jurgens when he's shown 4 to 5 bars, and he was jittering fairly often. It was weird to see, as I wasn't expecting it.

Yes my isp sometimes goes wonky. This morning GTS reported me as one bar yet according to others my car was behaving normally and I didn't notice any extra lag either. Yet sometimes my isp develops a 'hickup', congested cable internet I guess. All the cars will suddenly move a bit left or right repeatedly every second. It's very weird until it clears again. I have also seen car movements turn into stop motion style movement for a few seconds.

I have no clue. I do use wifi but that never seems to be a problem, 5 bars all the time, getting 95 mbps down / 15 mbps up on my laptop through wifi, 14 ms ping to toronto (220 km round trip). However GTS reports anything from 35ms to atm 89ms ping to wherever the server is. I can't do much about what happens from the modem onwards :/

I'm afraid some justice has had to be handed down. There's lunges, divebombs and then there's this:

This driver committed to that overtake when he was still in the tunnel. It had taken me several laps to work through that pack cleanly and then one punt drops me back. I hate that corner as you're so ripe for the punt, so I'm trying to get in and through before someone can hit me. In this instance there's no hope.

I'm afraid that later on the opportunity arose to test the penalty system. And it was taken: Fatality. Bonus for the full clean drift entry into the right-hander afterwards.

Then drift turned like a boss lol. Nice one

Last night, in attempts to make myself feel better after a disastrous Manu race, I hopped on to my R4M account and started some C races. No qualifying; start from the back and see where I can end up.

Most of the time, I was starting in 18th (out of 18 cars), and there was one time where I started 18th out of 19 cars. In all races, the first few turns are always interesting. By that, I mean a bunch of people end up killing each other, and suddenly I'm in top 10. I always went for the inside line on turn 1. Turn 2, I'd do the same thing if I could. After that, it's a matter of trying to pass whoever is ahead of me, and trying to force a mistake on those who are defending like crazy. Sadly, I couldn't pull a Davil Perel on anyone (yet) in this C race. I did get a super clean undercut on the 2nd to last turn on someone, which was super satisfying.

Then, of course, I had a couple run ins with some questionable drivers. One of them kept pushing others off track, so that was fun. He did it to me, but ended up with a 3 second penalty. I even passed him before he served it, so I don't get what he was trying to do.
Another one turned into a salt mine as I was about to pass him between turns 1 and 2. He pushes me into the right wall. I don't slow down too much, but that did get him a penalty. Congratulations, you played yourself.
Then before turn 2, I was trying to pass someone, when he taps me on the left and goes off track. Great, I have a 3 second penalty. I did think about punting him for his foolish decision, but I decided to not do that... Still passed him, as he decided to pick a fight with someone else.

So yeah. Interesting races. 1st place had a great pace, so I couldn't catch up to him at all in any of these races. 2nd for life. :D

Why do I keep doing this to myself, racing during dirty hour. I can't remember the last time I saw a clean 7:30 pm race, I always lose SR in that timeslot. -6 SR this time to 93. I was up to 32K DR in the afternoon, now after 3 dirty hour races down to 28K. Punted off to last 3 races in a row.

One race had a red bar connection parked in the bus stop, not ghosted! He was reported as last during the race, yet at the end suddenly appeared in the grid as one of the only ones without a penalty and blue S.

7pm to 8pm EST, PD should just turn the server off

Yep, 7:50 pm race again, all from one certain nation... 89 SR now. Dive bomb in the chicane from so far back he practically split the car in front of me in two. I ended up with a 3 sec penalty in the aftermath, then he punted me off in the right hander a bit further on. A shame as I was having an awesome close race with the Mexican in front of me who got split in two.

Let's see what SR.B is like, can't be worse than SR.S at this hour. That's where I am now. I had to deal out some street justice after getting rammed off and spun out by two different drivers and getting SR Down for it. I got them both but paid in SR. Worth it after this last hour. Wth.

One of them, the rammer, was in my next race. He was SR.A. I passed him cleanly first then he started ramming again, brake checking, punting. So I checked his profile on KP
4k67XFh.jpg

PD stop matching these people in SR.S lobbies. One or two of these will ruin the race for most of the lobby.

Of course I still got SR Downs for some of his punts, down to 59. I didn't feel the need to hit him back, as the penalty system at least did something this time and got him out of the way at the penalty zone. Anyway it's pointless to hit these people back, yet you can't pass them either with all the ramming and brake checking...

Let me tell you about my adventures at race A.

Here's the penalty zone screwing two guys who really didn't do anything wrong.

Here's what I meant by idiots at race A. After the third hit, for no reason, I brake early to get behind this 🤬, so I can launch him into another galaxy. He crashes and so I move on to get the last laugh by taking the checkered flag. 👍

This next dude... Oh boy. I'll just say this. For all those of you that don't like to seek vengeance, take comfort in knowing that there's someone like me out there, who will make sure that the bad actors reap the whirlwind. :mischievous:

I was never near this dude for the whole race, and when it appeared that I might take the win, he got stupid. I ended up 6th because after he hit me, he hit the wall, giving me 5 penalty seconds. His name is written down.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I don't look for trouble on the track.
I just won't stand for being unjustly victimized.

Trying to squeeze all I can from theMOTUL GT-R in Race B... after many hot laps I am down to 1:30.109. That includes flat out in to Chicane of Death... goal is to have in below the 30s. Let’s see!

I tried to Xanavi but I have been slower in it. In all fairness I have only driven few laps in it. Sticking to the GTR since I have already created a cool livery for it :D

Edit: just realized they're both GT-Rs :)

They just didn’t like that you were the odd one out trying to race in their TT Cup.

I saw that guy from my 3rd video, again. He started 6th, and I started 12th. I sent him a pre-race message that simply said "Buckle up ;-)".

I made it up to 7th by the first turn, and he completely blew the corner. I flew by and never saw him again.

I'm satisfied. :D

I ran two race B this morning,an overly aggressive Englishman was no qualify and came barging up the field, pushing people off left and right.
He came up behind me at the long downhill too the water, brakes late, went in on my inside. I used my standard line while trying to make room. That made me undercut him and come back in front of him. He instantly rams me up the behind so I run into the rail. He got 2 seconds penalty. He had runnings with a lot of us and informed us in chat that he reported us. Then he called me dive-bomber. Reporting 4 guys in one race is to me like a mirror. He should rewatch the videos and then the replay.
It's on my profile in GTS if anyone wants to see it.

I bet his KP profile looks like a roller coaster or just a flat line near the bottom of the chart.

Third time's a charm. The irony being I probably could have made the clean overtake!

And the House of Gryffindor is awarded 5 points for the drift into the next corner.

The hit & run is one reason why I won't run Tokyo in dailies any more. Last week's racing at St. Croix had the same effect. I grazed someone who was fishtailing & he finally hit the wall. Guess who scored 2 sweet seconds of extra time in the penalty zone.

From what I saw in the video, the guy 250cal passed was using every inch of the track...& then some. He was more drift king than Le Mans champion.

I have spent some time tonight trying to build my credits & get a Gr. 2 car for the alt account. So far, no dice. And, it looks like I won't reach that goal before the dailies change again. In the meantime, I've been enjoying a little Project Cars 2. I'll wait & see what mess next weeks racing affords us.

Wow, just wow. Down to 49 SR now, 4K DR down. SR.S is definitely still better than SR.B at DT: Seaside. I might have to do some Tsukaba races tomorrow to get out of SR.B as it's a game of roller derby tag in GR.2. This describes it pretty well

What stands out most is the insane places people try to go two wide.
