Holy crap! I just did one race at DT: Seaside before getting my kids and no penalties!!! Not a single red dot or red rating for the whole room! There was still some bickering and 2 neutral ratings, but zero penalties, no red ratings, GR.2 on DT: Seaside  Well done everyone in the 2:50 pm race!!

Since I'm getting my kids now, schools will be out and that was probably the cleanest race for the rest of the day lol. I finished 7th with another clean race bonus, fast room. The bus stop of course still claimed several lives :)

Noticed earlier how times have tumbled for Race B qually through the week. EAME top time is 1:27.127 (which pleases my OCD) and my 1:28.6 is barely top 700 now - (was top 250 earlier in the week). Clearly I need to go back and do more practice.

Record times (my best lap delta)
S1 29.817 (+0.6)
S2 27.112 (+0.5)
S3 30.198 (+0.3)

When I lose time in each sector like this, I generally have to admit defeat as it's not like I'm screwing one sector and on par elsewhere. Generally swapping between cars can yield small increments of time and very rarely I'll find that something which gets the time tumbling in one particular segment. Basically I'm looking at a pure pace difference, which I can usually see in braking distances and traction. I can never match the top drivers' braking distances.

It would be handy if you could reset the ghosts at the start of each sector.

I'm also willing to consider that I might be taking this game too seriously, as you've previously mentioned. Maybe I should be giving some other aspects of my life more of a priority...
Yeah, got to learn to balance out what you want with what you are doing. I used to worry huge amounts about my DR and SR, they still keep me occupied at times as I want them to be good. However I had a major correction the other week where my DR got close to 26k. I got flustered as it dropped until I was talking to one of my students who mentioned he played the game. I had to remember that I used to think if I maxed out my talent I would get up to 15k so where I was should be a bonus. As long as I am getting competitive times and able to race well I think it works for me. Also knowing when to race and knowing if I am off my game helps.
As for Dragon Trail, leave it. Just like St. Croix and Tokyo it is deceptively hard. Different attacks and angles for each chicane or hairpin, different control and line needed for each. I figured out just last night that if I am feeling stable and smooth for a while then it is ok to race then. If I am sweating buckets and ballsing up my practice or qually laps then I need to bail on the race before matchmaking. DTS punishes you if you aren't going well at the time.

There's an option now in the "Ghost Settings" to do this if the ghost gets too far ahead by the time you reach the next sector, but not an on-demand function.

Would you look at that, I never noticed that bottom section before.

I'll just leave this here

Looks about right. Such a horrible penalty system.

Ok, it's all dirty air. My 1:27.990 qualy time put me on pole a second ahead of P2 (sometimes odd match ups huh?) and I could basically turn 5 qualy paced laps in a row around the 1:28.3 mark for an easy win. Turn in for the left hander all the same, braking points for T1 and the last corner etc all the same as qualy. CoD flat etc.

Dirty air is dirty folks.

Ok, what is the dirty air that I keep hearing mentioned?

Can I ask something? What are we hoping to get out of doing Daily Races? For me, I suppose there's a fun to be had in working within what car/tracks/event regulations there are per week; same applies to the Time Trials. Getting better with various cars/tracks - stuff like that, or knowing when to avoid certain events given their featured cars/tracks. I think I should also chill out a bit regarding my DR - it's meant to be an indicator of my skill, after all, not something to grind and subsequently get a little worried about if/when it drops.

For me, it's the competition. I like that sense of competing in that 15 - 30 min race. Even if I don't win the race, if I just move up a few spots, I feel as though I've won. I also like the jitters I get when suddenly I'm within earshot of the lead, or when I suddenly have it and now I have to keep the foot on the gas and maintain the lead. It's the same type of rush I get when I'm looking over 140 yards of water to carry on my next shot in golf.

Regarding the DTS chicane discussion;
There's a real-life track called Watkins Glen that has a chicane that's almost exactly the same as the chicane of death at Dragon Trail.
They call it the bus stop, and it's limits get abused in ways that certainly wouldn't be possible with the walls that DT has.
Whether that would be better, or not is a matter of opinion.

What a great track. Wish it were in the game.

Me missing the Death Chicane...

Edit: in real life curbs on exit are often slippery so you avoid them because they slow you down, or upset the vehicle.
But if there was a 5 second penalty on these a lot of drivers would power through and have their race destroyed by the 10 second penalty they would pick up.
Yeah, havent raced for a few days. First race and I navigated perfect. Started from 13/13 and made it up to 8th on the last lap. Hit the dang exit curb on the left and sent me too the exit corner barrier on the right.

The very few times I have loaded a ghost they resets at each sector

Same for me. I got a 1:28.0 from somewhere but usually only get 1:28.2 to .4 laps, the car just does not stop sometimes. I'm losing half of the time to the leaderboard times in the first sector alone and it's full of flat out parts.

The race is even worse, so little grip, lucky to even get into the 1:28s, even when 5 seconds behind other cars. I've only raced twice as I knew it'd be like this, this is the worst track in the game to feel this lower grip feeling, almost bound to crash. :banghead:

I even tried changing the camera, using bumper cam instead of hood helps in the middle of the lap but as I'm not use to it I lose time elsewhere, I'm just lost basically. :dopey:

I think it was added recently. 1.43 or something. Was told it existed for other lobbies, just not Sport Mode. Really useful feature.

Dirty air is essentially the slipstream. It's the turbulent air behind a lead car that will give you an advantage on the straights because of less drag, but in the corners that same lack of drag will give you less downforce, thus less grip. The faster the cars, and the more reliant the cars are on downforce grip, the more dirty air will affect them in the bends.

WTF1 does a good video description of this. I'm not quite sure if GTS correctly models the "dirty air" portion of the slipstream, ie the full on turbulence that occurs at the end of the slipstream "pocket", but slipstream definitely reduces your downforce and grip in the same way.

The ghost resets if it gets 2 seconds (I think) ahead of you.

I've said before that Gr.1 and Gr.2 really are beyond my capabilities but I'm a sucker and keep trying.

The fastest time shows an apex speed around 80mph for the first left hander in Sector 1. I'm nowhere near the ghost after the chicane. Precious little to learn after that because it's gone and watching the replay is just a whole load of "nope"! The grip difference has been really weird this week but some of the racing has been good.

Here's me missing the track fully to take the optimum line at full throttle :D

Difficult? yes. But definitely the optimal line that's provided by track limits.

So had my run after splurging 800k credits on the MOTUL GTR and on lap two managed to cut both sides. I wasn't sure because I drive on bumper cam but you can clearly see the car on the wrong side of the white lines of the track for both bends

Then a couple of laps later did this, love the PD pens

I'd seen this but had no idea how it worked. Now this could be a very useful tool!!

I've spent plenty of time trying different techniques to brake as late they do! It's weird because some of the YouTube guys seem to stamp on the brakes, some seem more progressive, but they all brake later than me and make the corner easily!

The latest one I started today and is downshifting quicker and earlier as I noticed the guys on YouTube tend to downshift as soon as they come off the throttle (whereas I was clearly looking after the engine and gearbox somewhat and changing when at a reasonable speed for the gear like you would on a driving lesson ). It does work, I'm braking for the first turn on DT now just before the kerb in the '08 GTR and getting the speed down enough to make the apex. The newer cars I can brake even later. I now have the problem where I'm not carrying enough speed through the corner - but I do think I turn in a little early as well.

The margins are so fine though, a tiny change in technique could get 0.5s a lap when you add up the effects through every corner and that 0.5s would rocket you up the rankings

Rankings have tanked and my Missus is threatening to leave

Better buck up then and get your DR back...

As for COD discussion.. I don't hate it. I'm just not good enough.

That's not PDs fault.

As for people being nobs and trying to go through it two, three abreast?

Also not PDs fault.

Its a flipping awesome bit of track and I get an adrenaline rush every time in get it right (granted that doesn't occur all too often so it still has novelty value for me).

But you just have to prepare for and accept the worst when it happens.

You don't have to race it.

It used to be a penalty when you got all inside the kerbs there. Quite a while a go, way before the track cut penalties got reduced to 0.5 sec. Touch any red should mean penalty but that's just me :)

Odd, some cars lock up when you downshift straight away, that can't be a faster way to brake. I also have a feeling wheel users can still turn in faster, I always have to slightly tap the brakes at the start of the fast left, right, left section. Anyway so far my fastest is a 1:29.777, not taking enough risks mostly.

Don't make the last downshift early, you'll lock the rears.

I only do one downshift straight away. I don't go from 6th to 2nd as quick as possible and end up over-revving, just 6th to 5th when I start to brake then down through the gears as I usually would. It definitely helps (me anyway) to go BRAKE 5...4..3..2 compared to BRAKE....5...4..3..2

Yeah, I just tried it. I'm not stopping any faster and now sliding into the corner since the wheels lock up. It also feels very wrong.

Ahh, I rattled from 6th to 2nd with the engine nearly exploding :)

Tried that one ages ago! Think that was attempt number 34 at braking later!

The curbs are more slippery than the tarmac in the heavy braking zones, if you stay on that and downshift only when needed you can brake pretty quickly. Trail braking is the real key to later brake points though, it lets you start braking later and also brake farther into the corner, you can do this because as you ease off the brake to trail in it then opens up the option to steer while still under braking. :)

I got punted so hard at Seaside I ended up in next week's dailies. Here they are!

Race A: N200 one-make @ Goodwood, 5 laps, SH
Race B: Gr.3 @ Suzuka, 4 laps, RH
Race C: Gr.4 @ Interlagos, 11 laps, RH, x3 fuel / x11 tires

@Granadier Not for me lol. Interlagos and GR.4 are both near the bottom of my list of fun things to do. Suzuka has run its course this gen, definitely for sprint races. I hope the car will be fun for race A as that's the only one I'll touch next week.

Just got disconnected during race B. I did a network test right after, 47 ms ping, all parameters green, this is a good network environment. Why you disconnect me then :banghead: All that hard work regaining DR from the back, -2 SR for the disconnect, first SR loss today.
