I see them now. That first video is classic for Interlagos + penalty zone. I see that happen in most races and usually benefit from it. The unghosting car almost never brakes in time. If they don't hit anyone, they'll have a new penalty for running wide. Bad place for the penalty zone, PD don't put them near/in braking zones :banghead:

Second video, can't see the gap times in a replay but it looks like he comes in a lot slower than that huracan. And yup, that defense works, at the cost of a very possible SR Down. Except when the car behind comes in too hot and doesn't hit you square on, you are screwed. You bump him a couple times before that so you probably were expecting the aggressive approach there.
Anyway good to see the grass isn't greener on the other side of the ocean. I'll stick with our laggy Southern neighbors :gtpflag:

Despite all the dirty driving, I have come to enjoy Interlagos again this week. N200 and Suzuka were out, so Interlagos it was. Plus longer races are always more fun and the GR.4 cars actually deliver some interesting strategies on Interlagos. Perhaps if I ignore Suzuka for 10 more outings (about 3 months in GTS) I'll come to enjoy that track again as well.

I typed, "I guess I'll wind up last"

What to do with a dive bomb? Here I avoid one, lose 2.5 sec on my lap time and 2 spots.

Attacker gets away free, thinks he made a great overtake and speeds away.

Fact is, he had zero overlap before turn in. I had to abort turning and brake more to avoid. Is it just me that thinks that's a dirty move or am I racing wrong? Btw I'm in the crap GT-R which needs to brake early. At least I got the CRB in one go in that piece of junk, next!

Watched this loads of times, my take on it is you think he's massively out-braked himself and is going to fly past your inside so you brake hard to avoid the dive bomb and cut back in. You may as well have got out the car and waved the two guys past, you slowed so much. Should have carried much more corner speed and just gone wider. I assume from the general nature of your posts that you very much place an emphasis on having a clean race and no contact if you can avoid it but this incident is going above and beyond the call of duty! Contact happens. Had you raced him instead of getting out of the way, you'd have probably stayed ahead of both of them. Maybe an SR down and lose your CRB but we all know that the system is highly flawed

I like your new avatar. I've got that same picture on the side of my Gr.4 Jaguar. 👍

Great minds think alike lol. Homer is also gracing the hood of my Crazy Taxi.

No Sport mode races for me this week, just wasn't feeling any of the combos. I love Suzuka but every other week, c'mon man, Got my racing fix yesterday lobby racing. Practice for the upcoming Catalunya Endurance race and Big Willow with the TPC gang. Will make up for it next week on Race B & C and culminating with Catalunya on Sunday. Can't wait.

On a DS4 it’s R1 to change views usually. :)

I forgot one little thing. When we got the SF '19 added, I remapped that button for the overtake function. So, I'll have to look into my settings & see where I put it.

The problem I've had every race is that in the heat of the race it seems that the grip on the track evaporates. I can attribute some of this due to dirty air and the suck, where I have to change braking points but even when the air is clear the traction is horrible.

I use TCS, so I can't complain about lack of grip on the rear tires. But I swear that makes the lack of traction from the front tires double. Yeah, I know that sounds obvious (I'm a math major :D), but I swear the tire models have gone through enough change since the last Suzuka/Gr.3/RH combo was run that you can throw half of my favorite cars out the window. Redoing those calculations, that's actually 2/3rds of my favorite cars. The only ones I can comfortably hustle around are the Corvette & Ford GT. But hey, I've won in both of those during the last combo.

Nice! Thanks. I believe there is also a key that will remove the overhead/floating nameplates in replays as well, but I can’t remember what key it is. :)

F1 removes names, F4 returns them.

There are physics differences between race and qualy. Undoubtedly.

But I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the any differences are exacerbated by psychology.

Agreed. I've lost count of how many races I was leading only to be concerned with second place in relative striking distance or me trying to set the fastest lap & miss a braking point & hand them a victory. I' ve adopted the "maintain the win" mentality. Don't go gung-ho for the FL, hit the braking points just a smidge earlier & avoid going off track.

Oh... ok then :odd:

I loved the Matrix driver passing people before the race started. :odd:

GT Sport is supposed to be an E sport. Sports have rules. PD is mostly to blame for not setting down any rules apart from a broken penalty system and a rather useless etiquette video.

Agreed.

I know it's been said before, many times but Interlagos is just too dirty, especially if you try to race from the back and it's all PD's fault. I must have been hit muliple times by every single car I was near and that was like half the field without any of them being enough for a penalty. Eventually I shamefully snapped and intentionally spun a car by turning left into the last right hander in sector 2, the other car went for a great spin but I guess somehow it must have never gone off track, so of course the game just allowed it. It's really no wonder people race so aggressively when junk like that is allowed and goes unpunished. :banghead:

It's sort of a combo for me. I've just decided that Interlagos & Tokyo are no fly zones for me. Not only am I worse as a driver at those 2 locations, add in other cars & I look like a total beginner in their first race ever. Then, those other drivers are practicing for kamikaze school & I get knocked out of their way. That's just no fun & games are supposed to be fun.

That Catalunya race is flying right up on us. I did one test race so far to gauge fuel use & tire degradation. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I may test another car before the cutoff date. BTW, do you remember what your average or best time is at Big Willow? I'm just curious as to where I stand in comparison. I thought I was doing pretty well eclipsing @Pigems best lap, but somehow he waved his black magic during the race to dip into the 1:16s & my eyes bugged out.

We are all doomed. :)

See above comment.

I don't know about an average, but I was turning some laps in the 1:17 range with some cars. I didn't get to try the TT though. Yes I'm looking forward to Catalunya. You just don't see that kinda speed difference between cars in the Dailies unless you're racing with an alien. I think @Bivittavus88 mentioned he is going to host another lobby this weekend. Hopefully I'm not working and more than 3 people show up.

Did Race A 3 times today. +SR in each. +DR overall. Best races for me this week. Went from SR 80 something -> 99. Got cleaner every race as my SR went up. 👍

Every lap I was losing a ton of speed at the concrete chicane. I'm guessing around 10 mp/h slower than the other cars. Just can't get it right. :irked:

Eh, I knew my best "qualifying" lap last night was a 1:17.6xx. I knew it was faster than when I used the Mustangs. I found one of my live recordings & saw the 86 was only 0.2 second faster than I got the Mustang. So much for the pocket rocket being my "necessary" car to qualify with. :boggled:

I've been enjoying Suzuka this week, not lightening quick but running 2.06:6xx placing 9th on the grid consistently but the problem I've had every race is that in the heat of the race it seems that the grip on the track evaporates. I can attribute some of this due to dirty air and the suck, where I have to change braking points but even when the air is clear the traction is horrible. Couple that with usual punters and dive bombers I end up at the back of the pack and fight back to 9/10th for the finish. It's like groundhog day Lol! Has anyone experienced this issue during races with traction disappearing? During quali everything is fine and my pace is comparable to my race pace 2.06 to 2.08 at least I'm consistent.
It's not just dirty air, but a combination of that and "race nerves" affecting your timing. The pressure of defending from the car behind while trying to find pass opportunies in front is taking attention away from braking and turn in timing. This is compounded by having to compromise optimum lines to defend or attack. Suzuka is slippery to begin with and then sensitive to being off optimum line. In most turns your line is affected by your exit from the previoius corner and in the esses /snake, your entry to Dunlop is a result of how you set up your entry to T3. The distractions of racing make it much harder than in qualifying to nail that long series without any deviations from optimum, so the track itself seems worse in race than in qualifying.

Note to self: 1:00 pm my time, doesn't really work for Asian racing. I'll need to go way earlier, or way later. It was not fun, at all.
I've seen 4 cars in a race, but this was my first time seeing 3.
How may people do you expect to be up racing at 4am local time :sly:
Seriously, despite Oceania having higher total numbers than the Americas, my observations are that a much smaller proportion of Oceania drivers choose Race A and this is particularly obvious in the hours just before dawn.

From my experience at Suzuka, do ten laps in the AMG. After that everything else seems planted  :sly:

Yeah, I should have one open tomorrow afternoon/evening (depending on timezone) after I've done a few races at Suzuka.

Edit: the new controller should arrive tomorrow. Tuesday at the latest.

Hopefully things will improve when it does. I learnt my lesson from GT4. I went through about 4 controllers playing it. About a year after getting GTS I bought a second controller, expecting that the first one would fail soon. That was a year ago . I only just started to have problems. When I come to a breaking zone sometimes the engine would rev it's nuts off, and the brakes would do nothing. You could see the abs flashing away but not actually doing anything, so turning the wheel did nothing and I'd strait line at full tilt till I hit something. I just changed to my still sealed in it's box controller, and so far no problems.

Maybe think about having a spare on hand in case you have problems later so you don't have to wait for new one?

Once the new one arrive I can dismantle the old one to see if it is fixable. If not I am getting a backup.
But there is being put strain on my PS4 and controller, it's being used for many hours every day. It's a matter of time before it fails (although the PS3 still runs)

If the car doesn't feel stable, you can forget a good QT or race. Just give away DR & SR by the start/finish line. The understeer really manifests itself in the tiny right kink before Suzuka's left hairpin. Steer right, drive straight. You're just a missile at that point.

I had a similar experience years ago. My controller after years of use would want to steer left quite noticeably. Then I got the yellow light of death. So, I had to go & buy a terribly overpriced controller. But, it did come with a free PS3.

Put some time into Interlagos qually. Wasn’t feeling it but ended up with a low 1:39 in the WRX.

Back to Goodwood, Put in about 100 miles on main account and got qually down to 1:28.769. Lots of laps in the low 1:29s.

Off to second account to see what the racing is like.
Qually on second account at 1:29.404.

Race 1

Started 4th. Pole a 1:28.328 from an A/S rated driver.
Mixed grid of A to C DR.

Terrible start! Wheelspin, then bogged down in 2nd. Lack of race experience! Will try TCS in next race.

Down to 10th and last after the first couple of corners.

Overtook one car around the back of the track, but then he either braked too late or punted me at the chicane. This driver got a 3 second penalty. Made my way up to 7th at the end.

Blue SR overall, but I had an SR down for tapping someone’s rear under braking.

Race 2

Started 5th. Four A/S drivers in front of me.

Start much better with a touch of TCS.
Up to 4th and down to 5th again in the first couple of laps.
One of the A/S driver went off on lap 3.

Ended up 4th with a clean race bonus.

Fastest lap of the race by one of the A/S drivers was a very tasty 1:28.103!

Race 3

Started 7th. Six A/S and then an A+ on pole (1:28.150).

Got dive bombed on lap 1, but I held it. The dive bomber then went off on the double right at the top of the hill and then pushed me into the barrier at the chicane as he came back on the track! Cheers for that! WI was last and finished last. Lots of red SR drivers at the end, I finished with blue SR.

Race 4

Qually on second account improved to 1:29.229.

Started 8th. Six A/S and a B/S in front of me.

Finished 8th. Quite a lot of bumping going on and I was down to last (again) at one point. Another clean race bonus for me.

Thoughts....
It's nice to mix it with some A/S drivers. On this track, in this car, I must be nudging high B/S or low A/S DR with my pace.
Four races, DR down a few 100, but SR still at 99. I survived!

I worry about my PS4 too, she’s seen a LOT of hours in the past year. She now needs to “warm up”, when I first turn it on the screen has these little black specs popping up everywhere(like film grain in older movies) and the sound crackles at times as well, then about 5/10 minutes in the screen will go black and tv says “connecting” and then it comes back On and works perfectly until it gets shut off again lol. I’ve tried 3 TV’s and 3 HDMI cords so far and it does it with any combination of them, so it has to be the PS4.

My ps4 is from launch day and it gets so hot. It sounded like a jet engine for a while until i cleaned the fan and everything. Still gets super hot though lol. I wanted to get a ps4 pro but with the ps5 announcement i shall wait. My TV has been an amazing upgrade on its own.

I need to improve my racecraft. Just ruined a driver's race trying to avoid a collision with the guy in front of me, not realising I didn't have clearance on the driver I'd just passed. Ran the poor laddie or lassie off the road I'm afraid :(
Got the result I deserved, lost 7 SR (not all my fault, there was a bit of general bump & grind in the race)
