In the immortal words of @Tidgney - if you need to stop in the TT, it's the wrong car for you in this race.
Exactly. In a different race, a player won in an FF Megane, but only by less than one tenth, to a Slophy. That was in a fast room. I finished 4th and only chopped 2 seconds off the gap, from 9 seconds to 7 seconds. I still won't run an FF in this race.

I time trialed for Race C on my second account yesterday and I’m currently 214th with a time of 1:26.429. Going to make it my goal to break into the top 100 by the end of the week, which I managed to do once before when we had St. Croix C II last October. (Please use that track again, PD!)

There is a new problem emerging in the Race C splits just below top. They are becoming full of FF cars, but driven by people who can ALMOST manage tyre wear.

The final 4 laps or so become an exercise in trying to pass overly defensive cars with shot tyres. If you're lucky they only take defensive lines and you can get by cleanly. Often they are using the car as a kind of moving bollard and more than once I have been punted in the last corner of the race.

After coming 3rd three times, I finally managed a win in the GT86 with a bunch of B/C players. Mostly Meganes and TT's, all the front ones pitted and I went from 4th to 1st, 2nd closed in quickly in the last 2 laps, but luckily for me he went off, and gave me a 3 second gap at the end.

Tried another race, but ended up with very dirty players this time, and finished 15th. Went to the Viper next - started 3rd, finished 2nd. I found tyre wear far worse with the Viper and the final few laps were 2 seconds slower than the GT86 times.

I am working on that one - riding the TT with no pit stop. In order to manage the tires I am trying the following based on some of @Tidgney video tips and some of my own ideas:
  • BB+5 - minimize pressure on the fronts.
  • Avoid 2nd gear and the associated wheel spin. For T1 I can use 3rd gear and *almost* keep pace with the fastest ghost. When I do drop into 2nd I short shift to 3rd as the wheel spin weirdly appears in the top part of the rev range.
  • Set TCS=1, yes in an FF, as it avoids wheel spin.
  • Avoid hard braking at T1 and the final turn. Modulating the brakes at the corkscrew after initial hard braking.
  • Minimize gear changing and the incremental wear associated.
With those techniques, in practice, I am off my fastest QT by a few tenths, so it *can* be fast. Did I mention that my QT time sucks?

In the race I can get to the end with border line wear - appears to be about 60-65% left. I don't have pictures.

I am using my recently created alt account for this experiment. So far I cannot report success as I have entered the downward SR cycle and am in some unruly rooms and there is a lot more bashing about vs clean air.

Any other tire tips are much appreciated.

Hopefully, with next week Gr.4 at Tsukuba, we'll see a break from the FFs. Might be Evo vs STI vs GT-R vs Atenza vs Huracan. Might be....
With all the tight twisties on that circuit I feel like it's going to be Puntsville Central. The last time I raced there I got taken out at the last corner four times in a four lap race, each time by a different driver...

I think Bathurst will be the race for me. As much as it is a punishing track, I think it'll be an epic race. Early predictions on car of choice?

Well 27 cars(No Supra), 3 laps each. Pretty much as I figured(with my skill).

CArs that got booted from the top 20 that couldn't get under 56.815. The Viper was 57.019. Optimum was 56.809. Sorry to the Viper users.

For the record, other than the 4C and Veyron - couldn't get them under 57 seconds, my optimum for most of the cars were 56.5xx-56.6xx(including the NSX - felt quicker than the British Bulldogs). The STI, Evo and FF Megane, were in the .268-.297.

The Genesis is the surprise. It's super easy. Almost like an AWD: Get it stopped before the corner, the rear squares the corner, point the nose, mash the throttle. Nice car.

I was literally chucking the C7 into the tight corners. The rear rotates and just go go go.

Thought the Mustang would be where the Scirocco is, but my optimum was .550. Cayman was a .467.

I guess TT and RCZ users, as will many other players, fiddle with the BB. Times were set with TCS 0, RMs and BOP On. DS4 User.

@05XR8 : The Genesis was a big surprise for me too. I used randomizer to pick up my manufacturer for the season that just finished and Hyundai was the lucky choice. I knew from the start that the Gr3 car is competitive, but whenever I tested timetrialing the Gr4 was always among the last in my case. Add in the sound of the engine like a coffee grinder - I thought this is one of the manufacturers I will never go.

Well, a season later - the Gr4 is very good in my hands during races, nice wear, decent fuel usage and most of it - very predictive driving even during "on the edge" situations. Even though my results were a bit poorer than the previous season(that is because of the worst combo's in Manufacturer Cup I have seen since I started GT sport) when I drove the Vipers, I will definitely go Hyundai on the official season.

For sure. With 27 cars posting times all within less than a second, one love tap and it's all over.

As posted above, sad to say it may be the Vantage. I thought the GT-R, F1 and Ford GT. Not sure how the Vantage is across the top. The Genesis was good, last time I ran it on the mountain.

Well how about looking at it from us who just manage to keep the tyres and drive defensively but never badly. I'll take the inside lines but never swerve or block, if the guy gets along side I'll give space and with bad tyres that usually means give the place, yet over 50% of the time the guy won't even play the game they just punt me knowing I'll lose much more than any penalty. Luckily in most races I'm never caught like this, but it still happens too often. Then you get some idiot who punted you telling you you should change your tyres, even though it's overall faster even with the slight drop off in the last couple of laps. BTW my last lap is usually under 2 secs slower than my best so about 1 sec behind my normal laps, it's slow enough to be an easy pass but not roadblock slow.

I have absolutely no issue with people trying their best to make the tyres last. I also think taking defensive lines and doing your best to hold your position through clever defending is to be applauded. If I have chosen to run with a car/strategy that will put me behind a slowing car, it’s up to me to find a way to pass fairly.

My only gripe is with those who think that swerve blocking, sideswiping or punting are acceptable ways to hold a position. Unfortunately it seems there are many more of these than there are people like you.

BTW, I’m far from being an alien so there are plenty of guys doing no stops in FFs that I will never catch, and the ones who are using this opportunity to improve their tyre management will no doubt be leaving me for dead by the end of the week.

Lol you were hit 97 times!

I lost count after the 34th hit.

Hopefully, with next week Gr.4 at Tsukuba, we'll see a break from the FFs.

I was hoping that you were kidding, but I can see not. I'm going to stay far, far away from there in the Gr. 4 fleet. SR killer, DR resets inbound.

Deserved. You dared challenge the holy Mountain Dew car.

Never stopped others from punting my Mountain Dew cars without penalties.
