The game can sort out when a penalty should be issued fairly well, but what it can’t do is properly decide who should get the penalty, and how severe it should be. A slight bump where no harm was caused to anyone can be up to an 8s penalty? It’s ludicrous!

The best racing we ever had was when the contact pens got turned off for about 2/3 months. 👍
I wonder if a system that tracked the contact but didn't dole out SR penalties, unless after the race, the other driver 'filed a report' to indicate the contact was unfair, would work. Of course, would have to be flexible and not cancel someone, but the point is: none of mind a little contact, and in fact it's inevitable in close competitive racing at even the higher DR levels. Why not let it go, unless the other fellow objects? We'd all know the risk, and we'd all know the potential for people to game it, but I think that it would be better than the draconian zero-contact garbage that we have now. All that does is filter out the people who might care in the first place, while the punters still wreak havoc. So your DR suffers if you car about SR (which you really should, if you want to get matched with good racers, too). IDK- a thought.

people tend to forget that when it comes to the dealing out of penalties, we’re dealing with lines of computer coding. Not a referee in a zebra suit (NFL reference for all you commies overseas ;)). The penalty system is definitely flawed. But at least it sucks equally for everyone. If anything, it’s made us race even cleaner which is never a bad thing.

on another note, I’m an idiot. I’ve been at work all week and yesterday was the first time I could spin some laps. I was damn near ripping out my hair when I couldn’t get below a high 2:03 no matter what!!!!!

.....then I figured out your allowed to qualify in softs :banghead: .

Tried a bunch of cars. Been using the vantage but I think I’m gonna give the corvette another shot. My favorite thing about C this week is the variance of strategies...and the necessity to stay flexible depending on what the field is doing
yes, everyone seems to have to learn about the qualifying option the hard way! Make sure you also know that you can start on whichever tire you want, regardless of what you qualify on. Lastly, the odd thing that some people don't notice, is you have to change the front tires first, in the option menu before the race, if you want to change them from what the car is configured with by default. It appears that you can't change them, if you start with the rears. A kind of leftover artifact of some bad programming, I think.

Tell you what, in Race C, qualifying absolute king. Pace is surprisingly tight in S/B rooms and my 2.01.3 gains me 3 to 5 spots over my 2.01.7 I had earlier in the week. It's like that i some sort of barrier, the 2.01.3 mark. If I run a 200.8 I gain maybe one spot only.

It's to prevent people from running different compounds on front- and rear axle and thereby getting two compounds out of the way in one lap. Or running hards rear and mediums front for the whole race.
I remember this being a thing that was allowed by the game for a bit and always having the best grip compound on the fronts.

Unlike other tracks, I just cannot do 1st stint on mediums, you just get murdered across the top and guys run out of talent or patience or both and off you go. At Interlagos i was able to hold guys up but not here, you just cannot.

I'm starting on meds even from Q5 or higher. Sometimes lose a place in 1st lap but usually not. Then I pit lap 2 or 3, people have usually split a bit by then so you don't lose many spots then pit 5,6 or 7 depending on traffic. From the back I sometimes run 4/5, but I can't get 6 out of these tyres and 5th is a bit dodgy but your defending so it's ok.

Just had a decent race, Q7 to 2nd. Couldn't believe the leader he pitted lap 8 and obviously mucked up, tried to pit at end of race but still got the minute pen. Been getting some trying to play nices, but still some idiots. Guy blocks me down mountain and complains because I took him at cuttings, it was a bit ugly, but no pen so clean yes? I didn't care, fed up with idiots who think swerving down a straight is OK. It's half a step up from dive bombing at best.

No qualy. Set FL Lap 2. P3 set FL Lap 5. I was on for two more fastest laps, but stuck behind the Huracan. Just killing me.

Qualified for th next race. Set a 56.5. The RWX in 5th, started ahead of me. Lap 2, it avoids P2 and runs wide at the first lh hairpin. Watching the video, player then nails the throttle to try and get the rear around, but goes off track with understeer. Gets off the throttle, I'm way left, nails te throttle again and smashes me on my driver's door and I hit the soft barriers on the left, before the bridge.
WRX collects itself, I don't lose a spot to the TT and at the hairpin before the PZ, I pass the WRX. From there, just lost touch to the leaders. Maintained a 2-3 second see saw gap to P2. Oh well.

agreed. The “softer” compound in the “C” races is usually worth a second a lap in pace. With this weeks combo, it seems like the softer compound is worth about 2 seconds a lap. Going up and down the mountain is almost a night and day difference between the 2 compounds.

I think Tidgney’s strategy of doing 1 lap on mediums is a good one

Another go at Race B, in the Huracan. Got my qually time down a bit and had a clean race - stuck between the batch of WRXs in front and the two M4s behind me. Bit of a boring race but CRB and back to B/S.

The Corvette is such a revelation on the Mountain!! I have been driving the DBR 9 all this week and thought I'd try the Corvette just for fun. And boy it is FAST! Got my first win for the week at Panorama with the Vette.

Your post is fascinating to me because I'm using the DBR9 and I have tried the Corvette two or three times. I feel like I can't control it under breaking and, as you said, it's not as good through the esses.

Full disclosure, I am not a very good driver. My driver rating is D and my sportsmanship rating is S.

With the dbr9 I'm usually starting anywhere from 12th to 15th and move up about 4-7 positions on average.

Would I be correct in guessing that to use the Corvette you have to be a more highly skilled driver?

Here's one of my race highlights from today featuring @Groundfish. This was a good 2 stop in general, first stint was a bit dicey but calmed down after the two guys ahead of me took each other out on the way up the mountain. First stop lap 4 no drama, do 1 lap on mediums and right back into the pits for another set of softs to the end. Was so close to making @Groundfish look slow but he defended beautifully on the last lap and I squeezed him on the inside a bit too much resulting in contact that sent me to my death. Really close racing incident, but I accept the outcome as it was high-risk trying to outbrake on the outside there. The stang is no slouch that's for sure, for how close I was out of hell corner I thought I'd have a better run by the time we got to the braking zone.

This car ain't a fluke. Really good at this track. Two FLs and purple sectors all race, except the last lap. WRXs are a hair quicker off the T11 exit. Happy with my results and replays to watch.:)

Getting ready for Yamagiwa in the Mustang. Started default 11/16. BOP On and RMs, but AI have BOP Off and use RHs. Race time was 6.40. Qualifying may be necessary as it's going to be a fast paced race.

Nice footage and driving...Re us going head to head into Griffins Bend, not knowing the driver, if I were you I probably would have gone for it also. You were almost there and neither of us were going to lift and yield at that time in the race.
I’ve had that situation many many times, being on inside. It’s so hard to make it stick round outside. 8 times outta ten with all that grip on the inside if I’m there plus with tcs help I’ll walk away up to the Cutting as the outside car has bad understeer there and often has to lift to clear the turn.
Funny though I ran into it once against a DBR 9 outside, the HONJON....named alien alt. (he was much faster in race but...)anyways the move started he was outside, I held inside and punched it. I had the run on the outside and was pulling out in front of him, inches from clearing his bumpers at the next turn in but he kept his foot in it and I ended up turning into him at the Cutting by an inch and bouncing off and rubbing wall. He got a one second and was pissed...it’s racing lol

I really thought I'd have the overlap gone by the braking zone but was not the case as I barely really got my nose out, was really hoping my tire advantage would let me outbrake you but you kept your nose in where you were rightly entitled. Was so close to finding a line there but that's close racing and what makes Bathurst such a cruel beast, when your hanging it out there the most is when you can't afford to step out by an inch around here.

Finished up another highlight video for race C also. This one also features @Groundfish and some longer clips of us and a Brazilian doing a few laps near the beginning of the race. I messed up my 2 stop by missing the pit entry and went for a fastest last lap.

No idea why but every race c I've tried tonight I'm out of slipstream before even crossing the start line at the beginning of the race and the car behind me is like on my bumper practically by t1, does the vette have that much on the supra in that short a distance or is this some bug or glitch?

4RM/1RH/4RM

The Vantage in 11th was up thre front at the start. It pit Lap 1 from RMs and slapped on RS. Came out behind me in 10th. I was battling P3 & P4 for the first stint, holding off the Vantage. I released it end of Lap 3 before The Chase. I then got passed the AMG and GT-R. After my pit, I came out 3 seconds ahead of them. After my next lap pit, I was 4 seconds behind in 9th. The two C7s behind me were battling and I was gone.

Last lap, into The Chase, braked too late and ran off just a bit. P6 was closing and at the final corner, the P11 Vantage tangled with another car. all three of us, P3-P5, moved up two spots.

Vette is by far my favorite and most used gr3. I’m just not using it right now on alt because it’s a bandwagon car this week. My experience with it has always been its excellent in starts either grid or rolling.
Supra I haven’t used very much.
I’m going to race tomorrow AM a little.
Might use DBR9 a race or two...

I don't think so. Some are easier than others but all within the Gr. 3 class are manageable. The key is they are all a bit different and you need to adjust to that difference to best exploit it. It just takes some time.

It *does* take a highly experienced/skilled driver to simply pop out of one car and immediately recognize the difference in the next car and immediately exploit it. Personally, I have not been able to manage those low revving bad boys (vette and Supra) on the down hill twisty bits. I feel no shame.

I race happily and competitively in the DR.B level. I tend to learn a small handful of cars in each class. Each week I try the META (favored car) to see if I can make it work for me. If not, I fall back to the one that I am comfortable with. This week I have learned the Nissan GT-R. It is a thrilling bucket of mayhem!

I get that happen sometimes, not this week though. What I did have yesterday was a string of races where the rolling start in race C ground to a halt just before the final turn - countdown timer then started and we all did the equivalent of a grid start!

So hyped the Mustang is getting it done. WRX couldn't shake me in this one.

Dropped my qualy by .120. Helped me start ahead of the car I finished behind last race. Dispatched the Evo after two laps of it braking soooooo early for a Sunday drive. The WRXs behind were getting restless. P11 harrassed me for the first few laps. Then, I got a couple good flows and pulled away. Passed P10 in the PZ. Was still catching it while I was in clean air. All you AWD users, keep battling each other. :tup:Good stuff.

Has anyone been using the Genesis in Race C this week? What's your best finishing time and DR?

Just wondering whether it's me or the car being slow but I can't do better than 18:35. Losing a few tenths in the last part of the uphill section, in the fast corners and obviously some others on the straights. Haven't tried any other car because I just don't have time to get used to them.
