The most major difference with the FFs are the gearing. No way in heaven & earth are any other cars going compete. The Scirocco run 4.769 gears. That's like a Honda type-R. It'll always be in the powerband to accelerate quickly. To top it off, its theoretical top speed in 6th is 292kmh. The Mustang and C7 are about 291kmh & 292kmh, but both have 3.3 & 3.4 gears, respectively. Poor Viper is 282kmh, with 3.55 gears though.

Speeds in gears are nearly identical for the VW, Chevy and Ford. Viper have higher speeds in its gears, except 5th & 6th.

 Can't just have one early race without drama.

How stupid is that?! Jump in the VW, and set this time. 2 seconds faster than the time I set in the Mustang.

Edit2: Plain silly. This race should be Grid start.

Have to agree on the over powering nature of the FF's.

I took the GT-R out this morning and even being in the slip stream down Conrod, I was outrun by a VW.

Luckily I was able to pull alongside under brakes for The Chase and take the position back.

Good evening friends,

I am so pleased to report that I just enjoyed five lovely daily race B. In the first I was sideswiped off going down Conrod lap two. I spun but ended up forward still going!
That never happens!
It was an omen of what was to come.
I was driving the Mustang, of course.
The first race true I was struck by a competitor, but I held firm and kept entering races in the 99 lobby...
I was chasing and almost caught a fast Brazilian several times. He was clean as a whistle, but then it happened!
I entered and started second and guess who started third?
The guy who messed up my race last time out.
In chat he started in with overdone messages good to see you again repeated. He was trash talking me pre race!
He was letting me know his intent to murder me!

I considered my options...Whatever should I do? I’m starting second top room and the guy behind me AND the guy behind him are problem players who have hit me before.

My thinking was crystal clear. The decision was made...

It’s funny how in gaming as well as in life, you can be in your darkest hour, and it seems all is lost, but if you #nevergiveup there is always a chance that things will go your way!

I finished second! Our friend quit. Hehehe.
It was beautiful truly beautiful.

Damn I love this game sometimes!

Despite all the practice and advice, which is greatly appreciated, I can't find any consistency to feel comfortable to participate in race C. I'm giving up and tapping out for this week.

It's a bummer because I thought I was decent at the track and was looking forward to get some racing in for this combo. I guess I overestimated my abilities, oh well. Next week should be fun with race A and B as long as I can avoid the CoD at Dragon Trail.

Hopped onto my alt account last night for a batch of races at Bathurst. Started out in the Renault Megane and managed a third from Q3, behind two Sciroccos.
Then jumped into the GTR to see what it could manage - improved my Q time by 3 tenths, Q4, and P3 finish. Had another three races, winning one one an RCZ and Scirocco had an argument at The Chase on lap 3 and I crossed the line on the rear bumper of the Scirocco who had a 1s penalty.

Had a couple more races and had two more top-5 finishes. A total of 5500 DR but barely any SR gains. I'll miss these C-ranked lobbies when I get this account up to B.

See you all at The One Ring next week
I will be there.

For those who have not done the Nord for one reason or another... reconsider. It is one of the most rewarding experiences in the game.

It is hard.

There are many tracks that I have not done because I find it hard to learn new tracks. The Nordschleife was a big investment, it took lots of time and is frustrating.

It is worth it.

Some QT tips:
  • Do use "circuit experience". Over and over.
  • Don't abandon your qual lap if you miss a corner - use that time to learn the rest of the track and experiment with lines and braking points.
  • It is effectively impossible to run a perfect lap so don't fret over that.
  • Put in a "banker" lap - a decent but consistent lap - and then run against that.
  • use the timing board with the blue/red indicators. It is more important here than any other track. You cannot trust only your senses.
  • Parts of the track look the same and it will fool you. Yep, it sucks.
  • The curbs are mischievous. Some help you. Some hurt you. That sucks too. "English" narrator explains that on circuit experience but there are about 100 curbs to deal with.

Why this week?
  • It is group 4 week and those are the friendliest cars to learn on - fast enough and not too fast - just right.
  • No reason to wait. GTS has less than a year left before GT7 takes over and folks transition to that.
  • While it will be hard this week you will be in better shape for the next time it comes up and it will come up again.

Frustratingly, there's no way to do a fuel economy test for the N24 race, next week.
I tried Custom Race, but the multipliers won't go high enough.
I tried creating a lobby race, but it won't let me do a Q lap on my own (didn't want to involve anyone else).
Is there a way to do it solo, that I'm not thinking of?
I think it's pretty dumb that we can't do whatever we want to in the Custom Races. :grumpy:

Make a very unwelcoming title for the room? Or, just take the risk. The track is big. No one will get in your way for practice laps.

There isn't really a way to make a perfect solo lobby, unfortunately.

You can reduce the number of people who can join by making it Friends-Only, reduce the number of participants to 2, and set high DR/SR limits. It'll keep most people out of the room unless you have some really good friends. Limiting tire choices to Non-RSS tends to help a bit as well. Like Guppy said, a good lobby title might help as well. Your friends will know what you're trying to do.

Just make sure the appropriate penalties and physics settings are up and you're good to go!

Edit: uh, fuel burn?

You a setup a Free Run with fuel and tyres set and then you don't have to wait for anyone to join to start, I do it all the time to check for race C and FIA races where fuel or tyres are in play.

I feel like the meta car is not quite as critical at the ring. Knowledge of the track would trump any small advantage from the car.
It's the normal chaos makers that can get around the circuit in the META. If anyone shows good pace in a non-meta, that person becomes the target.

I think last time, N24 was at night. F-Type was the META? Might just run the Evo and WRX. Feel like running 4-ddor sedans.

You are just teasing me, right? Throwing out a question like that that can be answered by data mining. :)

The Viper and the Audi TT were the top choices based on the 1000 best times. 990 of those times came the last night-time daily in early Jan, late Dec. The Audi has since been BoP'ed by 3.5% and the Viper by 1.0%. Later, the McLaren and F-Type got BoP'ed by 1%.

The 1000th best times was 8:50.2 (-12.0 seconds). The best time was 08:38.2.

I expect times to be faster this week as the cars can run RM vs RH in quali.

Are those times in Free Practice or Race? I can remember there being the FFs, but F-Types up the front.
No doubt, I don't run every day like I used to. Most likely I haven't seen majority using the TT.

This is my source of data: https://gtsport.r1s3.net/laprecords/13/12. It looks sort of official. The PSNs all look legit. It looks like the Kudos QT list here: https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/rankings.php?sec=daily&eid=24461

I did a check and our favorite Igor has the same time in both sheets - 08:39.130. From that I conclude that most of the 1000 entries represent quali times.

I do recall the TT being used because it was my choice... and you tend to recognize your own car when others run it - just like real life.

Also, the TT may just be for QT. As an FF car it underperforms in race trim due to tire wear.

I did a few runs myself. The TT and VW are a tossup. Based on that I will pick the TT for better tire wear (compared to the VW). I have been running the VW for a while and forgot how good the TT feels. Smooth... and second gear works :).

For the FRs I set a better time in the Genesis over the Viper. I am pretty useless in the FRs so that does not count for much. I abandoned my 4C lap - could not manage that thing.

Now I've realized this week's Daily Race A coincided with round 3 of the Super Formula Championship. Both of them took place in Autopolis. Speaking of Daily Race A, I had two additional victories in this race in the following days below.

As a result of this, I endured three consecutive days where I had at least one daily race win.

Decided against my better judgement and ran a race C on a Sunday night. Just impatient barge passers and people looking to wedge their car into any possible slot. Gave it a nice run but dropped a small bit due to some mistakes by myself plus the bonus attempts getting run off.
Not all bad as karma came back to bite the two pushiest people so not a total loss. Now to see what chaos emerges next week.

Yeah, Sunday drivers in the Race C. Used the Evo, gained 7 spots. Atenza, gained 7 spots. Atenza, gained 7 spots. Mustang, gained 7 spots.
Even lowering my qualy time, I'm still near the bottom.

One player I've had a run in with, in the past, is going to get smashed to Gundungaland. That player barges all the time. Good thing that player only pops up once in a thousand years.

Conversely, I've had mostly good, clean racing on the mountain this week.
Just head a great race with a Russian driver, him 5th in an 86 and me following in my Veyron. Both of us holding position up and over the top and plenty of side by side around the rest of the lap. He handled the pressure well and beat me by .2.

Now pushing up towards DR B, so probably won't go again today. Unfortunately my level of incompetence seems to be reached at just over the magic 10K points, causing an annoying yo-yo effect between B and C.

Bring on The Ring!

Big Lex is back. Super solid.

No blocking by the Evo. They just placed the car on the inside line at the final corner for the last laps. I just kept the pressure on.P6 was far enough behind, for me to show the nose each lap. Close finish.

On the bright side you didn't straight up punt anyone off in those races (although :irked: at the racecraft on display generally).
