Did a tiny bit of testing for Gr.1 Monza since I love that combo. Some observations:

- The Bugatti VGT is not good. It has a frankly pitiful top speed on the pit straight: I could barely get it to 315 kph, when things like the 908 were pushing 325-330. For comparison, the TS050 (notorious for being anemic at the top end) was reaching around 308. What's the point of the W16?

- The LM55 is rapid in a straight line and really easy to drive. Unsure if it'll hold up against 8x tyre wear, though. Doesn't really like to turn through corners.

Have to go again to count and not as good a grid, 74 points rather than 98 last time. Still might be a better race. Q2 and do I do the normal meds first or risk the softs? Think I have to use meds first, any trouble at the start and I could waste softs on one lap. Well I mucked up badly and ended up in 13th, worked my way up and looking at 3rd near the end. Slight mistake lost me 1 place and should have been it. Then I got punted continuously till I finished in 12th. Nice 19 lap, spoiled by no penalty system.

The Tomahawk and Peugeot VGT are good alternatives for top speed. It's going to be about the chicanes(if we're using that layout). The hybrids will break away as usual.
No chicane, the Group C cars have a shot.

A few hours later I was liking the track and even the penalty system seems to have improved a bit since the last time I played.
Every time I get back to GT Sport I almost forget how much fun the game is in-game - trying to run clean but aggressive at the same time, improving in just one or two places ... hopefully by the end of the week the point where I regularly go for a podium I can challenge.

Good time.

The track records (https://gtsport.r1s3.net/laprecords/42/15) are dominated by the Porsche 919 Hybrid ('16) based on racing in March 2018.

  • Has it been nerfed over the last few years?
  • Is it hard on tires?
  • Does it just qual well (Hybrid) but does not hold up in race trim?

Thoughts anyone?

The Porsche and Audi Hybrids are typically a little faster than the Toyota over 1 lap but they deplete their battery over a race distance so the TS050 is usually the better race car.

Kudos is fixed now.

Next week
A: Sardegna C N500 6 laps
B: RBR Short, Gr4 7 laps (WET)
C: Monza, Gr1 12 laps

16/08/21
A: Lago Maggiore Centre 2, Gr4 7 laps
B: Big Willow, Gr3 5 laps
C: Sardegna B, Gr2 14 laps
I'm looking forward to that wet RBR Short race. Feel like it's been a while since there was a wet Daily Race.

I am curious what are the right cars for that race.

The FR cars feel good in the wet. It's just the calculations (programming or whatever PD have done) to simulate FR cars being slower than MR and AWD.
The Cayman feels solid. I suspect other MR cars will do good. Maybe the nimbleness of the 4C can make it a sleeper? Haven't tried it.
The GT-R felt the easiest to drive/control. By the times I set, could probably drop that time, but I adapted to the conditions much quicker using it.

Anyway, AWD will be the way to go. Can't see much diving up the inside through the start of the infield. It'll really slow cars up for the rest of the lap.

Well, a whole week without seeing a single red SR for anybody (races A & C) - can't remember that happening before! Surprising given the number of times I got rammed off track......

After a few days of hard work I wanted to test my new found time of 2:08,120 in a B lobby at Saint Croix...

What a horrible experience that is... first and third attempts were both disconnect and the 2nd one had little to do with racing. Just elbows out and let the chips fall where they may. One reason I don't do dailies (at least A and B) without being top 3-5 at least is because the shortness make for a very different race, if you can call it that.

I may try a fourth attempt, but if that turns out to be the same as the others I'm done.

I definitely did get punted. It is terrible when you cannot race someone on the outside.

There was one positive experience where I was passed and managed a pass for 2nd on the outside. Kudos to Andrew M!

Was not expecting this surprise but I'm back in C zone... guessing it was my last two races that I came in 2p...

Another item of note is I am believing that in spite of the penalty system on sabbatical im seeing somewhat cleaner races these days, not much in the obvious dirty punting, but when there is I see the flashing lights of acknowledgement, and i did see a penalty or two given for collisions, these were not the .5 for track limit, these were 1 second penalties and popped up after a punt...sorry I don't have screenshot proof...

Report from Race B.

This race brings joy to me.

I have chosen to use my RWD Mustang on this race.

My reasons are as follows.

It is hilarious. (Not if I interfere with another driver's race, mind you. Bad driving etiquette doesn't hit my funny bone worth a damn. But when I wish myself into the cornfield, I have to laugh. It does tickle my funny bone when I pass AWD drivers who fling themselves into the forbidden zone.)

It is an opportunity to see how my Manufacturer Series car handles in the wet.

I believe that using my Manufacturer Series car in this race will pay off later when I'm using that same car in the clear.

My DR is at C, so I'm not really risking much.

I will keep you posted as to whether my practice in the wet with a Gr4 Mustang pays off.

Update: Use Heavy Wet tyres. I was using Intermediate tyres. Not as funny.

Did a race B and was expecting carnage, but didn't see anything bad apart from 1 South African (we know a song about that) who wanted to win so badly.
Started 5th and 4th mucked up and later I did then he did again. Lap 5 I get fastest and I'm in 5th with 3 clean drivers and the S.A. bumping people about, I end up being 2nd behind dirty boy by just staying out of it. Last corners he goes wide, unsurprisingly he blocks me but picks up 0.5. So I win and dirty came 3rd. This driving clean has huge advantages.

Did one Daily Race B along with @05XR8 and @pennanton where I managed to complete one without getting DC'd and all I'm gonna say is the track limit on turn 1 is just too confusing for me.

I will say the GTR's going to be my go to car for this week.

Had about 4 hours of great racing early Saturday morning in the s13. A bunch of really close and fair battles for the top 3 spots. Have a few replays to share later and some photo finish pics. Had three of the races turn into drag races off the last turn, so much fun with fair competitors.

This weeks race A sounds interesting, although the early reports i have gotten are that it's demo derby. Hopefully that calms down, and i can actually try to race it later today, or through the week.

Race B.

Mustang, 458, SLS, Cayman, Viper, GT-R, Evo.
Viper felt the best and I set my fastest RWD time with it. Perfect companion in this combo.

The Gt-R and Evo. Hey, to those than can drive them, more power to you. I set a 1:01, but the braking just went on forever. Car wouldn't stop for me. The Gt-R was much better as I mentioned in a previous post. More stable, just not as quick.

Moving on to Race A in the Lambo. Can't miss that one.
I also see the Audi is at the top for Race C. We'll see what happens. Probably tomorrow.

I set a 1:02.5 in the Evo before the opening race at Red Bull Ring for the week.

Was good enough for 4th on the grid, which I held to the finish.

It was pretty much an AWD affair, Atenza (won the race), 1 GT-R towards the rear of the pack, a lone VW, 5 Evo's and the rest of the field were WRX's all of which finished outside the Top 5 :D
