why waste the money
O.K ,it has been a while since I have posted a new thread and I thought it would be fun to find out what everyone thinks about all the other tallent that is going to be in the 24hrs of Daytona.I feel that they will bring in more veiwer ship of the race. And that is a goodthing. The more people that find out the excitment of roadracing, maybe the networks will give us proper coverage of the other groups.Mainly the ALMS.

What do you think?

Kart Racer, ever since I've been on GTPlanet, I've enjoyed reading your kindhearted commentary and warm character. It's been an honor reading your stuff on GTPlanet.

If there is a race I don't know a lot about, it's the 24 Hours of Daytona. I think that ever since the GARRA introduced the Daytona Prototypes and basically got rid of the key race car in sportscar racing, the open-top racing prototype, I've lost interest in appreciating the Daytona 24 Hours. That doesn't mean I won't watch it, however. With the race being held some time before the Super Bowl (I don't have any picks right now), there is going to be one big selling point for this year's race. And that is the inclusion of NASCAR racers getting in on the act. There seems to be plenty of them. Only disappointment is that I wish Jeff Gordon would challenge ANY endurance. I'd personally want to see him try out the ALMS or maybe a Grand-Am race. J. Gordon is my favorite NASCAR racer, and he used to win five consecutive road races. I'd still like to see Jeff Gordon try it out.

But this year's race should be pretty interesting, especially for people who don't know some of the top names in American and international sportscar racing. If you don't have Speed Channel and you want to see some racing, make a move to get the Speed Channel, and check out the 24 Hours of Daytona. Since Rolex Sports Cars is more like the "NASCAR-ization" of American sportscar racing, I think it will be pretty accessible for racing fans to get to see some of their fans compete with people with pretty nice resumes in racing. Also, I'd love to see how the Pontiac GTO would do in Rolex Sports Cars.

I have some great news for the V8 supercar fans. Marcos Ambrose, Craig Baird and Paul Morris are going to race in the Daytona 24 hour with former production car racer John Teulan and will run a Porsche prepperd by former class winners of the event

Amen, to that brother!

Well you know, if you can win on road races in addition to ovals, you have to at least try this out. J. Gordon is perhaps one of the best road racers in NASCAR, and it's a shame to not see him go at it in endurance racing. I think maybe after Le Mans or something, Jeff Gordon should try out the ALMS. I think the schedule for 2005 is already posted at "http://www.americanlemans.com".

The thing that still upsets me about last year was all the talk about Dale Earnhardt Jr. doing an ALMS one-off when the Corvette spun around and had that huge fire. I really hated the sports media for saying that the "racing is a death sport" (-Jay Mariotti, Chicago Sun Times). I don't think Gordon should be phased about this accidental deal. Hey, you take a chance doing ANY sport, much less motorsport. So if I were Gordon and wanted to make a nice one-off appearance, get into the ALMS. I think there is tougher competition, and you rub elbows with bigger and better names.

So that was to further my Jeff Gordon poiint.

O.K It is now 2 days away. And for all you snowed in race fans, you got to be getting pumped.even if you dislike the Daytona prototype, racing is racing.

Been watching the Speed TV coverage all today and enjoying it as I have since the old days of Speedvision (though I miss the Risi Ferrari 333SP and the Lista/Doran Dallara-Judd) and am hoping that the #44 Lista/Doran Pontiac Doran DP pulls into the lead.

It's been a great race and it just makes me look forward to the rest of the GARRA season. I'll probably be skipping ALMS this year (I'd rather wear a sulfuric acid filled codpiece than watch another Audi R8 victory) but Daytona isn't even over yet and I already can't wait for Homestead.

You know a beautiful thing about long races like this one? While we're making posts about the race, the race is still going on. So stories can change at the snap of a finger. I went to the Houston Auto Show, so after 2 PM CST, I haven't seen any new coverage. There are 29 DPs racing this event. If the Daytona Prototypes and NASCAR racers make this race more accessible to road racing fans, the GARRA isn't all that bad as much as I've bashed the series.

The race had a great ending.I feel that this series just might make it.Now if the tv coverage for this and the ALMS is any good this year, the ratings should go up.
