Kart Racer, ever since I've been on GTPlanet, I've enjoyed reading your kindhearted commentary and warm character. It's been an honor reading your stuff on GTPlanet.
If there is a race I don't know a lot about, it's the 24 Hours of Daytona. I think that ever since the GARRA introduced the Daytona Prototypes and basically got rid of the key race car in sportscar racing, the open-top racing prototype, I've lost interest in appreciating the Daytona 24 Hours. That doesn't mean I won't watch it, however. With the race being held some time before the Super Bowl (I don't have any picks right now), there is going to be one big selling point for this year's race. And that is the inclusion of NASCAR racers getting in on the act. There seems to be plenty of them. Only disappointment is that I wish Jeff Gordon would challenge ANY endurance. I'd personally want to see him try out the ALMS or maybe a Grand-Am race. J. Gordon is my favorite NASCAR racer, and he used to win five consecutive road races. I'd still like to see Jeff Gordon try it out.
But this year's race should be pretty interesting, especially for people who don't know some of the top names in American and international sportscar racing. If you don't have Speed Channel and you want to see some racing, make a move to get the Speed Channel, and check out the 24 Hours of Daytona. Since Rolex Sports Cars is more like the "NASCAR-ization" of American sportscar racing, I think it will be pretty accessible for racing fans to get to see some of their fans compete with people with pretty nice resumes in racing. Also, I'd love to see how the Pontiac GTO would do in Rolex Sports Cars.
