Been a long time since I worked with these Publisher type programs and I'm a complete hack but I cobbled together a couple of things. Let me know what you think:

GUIDE TO SETTING UP THE LSD

Probably the single most effective and simple tuning option is the Custom LSD. In my opinion, just about all stock LSD’s are far too strong in all settings, initial, acceleration and deceleration. Some of you want to drive cars completely stock so this won’t apply to you, but if you find cars you really like and just can’t get the power down or there is some under or oversteer on exit, then tuning the LSD is the way to go. The nearly stock S2000 I ran at Tsukuba had huge wheelspin out of the hairpins, so I bolted on a custom LSD, dialed it way back to 8/11/10 from the stock 5/20/10 and the wheelspin was gone and I was able to be much more consistent

If you want full details as to how an LSD works, here is your best reference guide:

[post=4641242]Motor City Hami's LSD Tuning Guide[/post]

LSD Quick Summary:

For DeadNutsEven purposes, we’re mainly interested in tuning the LSD for car control under pressure, for those lengthy, heated battles where you can’t afford even one a tiny bit of the back end getting loose under hard acceleration. The quick summary below applies to FR, MR and RR cars. 4WD's and FF’s are slightly different which we’ll cover later if there is a demand for it.

Acceleration

This is the most important setting for us, and for LSD’s in general, in my opinion.

Higher Setting = more outside wheelspin
Lower Setting = more inside wheelspin.

Somewhere in the middle is the sweetspot where both wheels hook up at the same time, providing maximum grip and control. This affects us mostly in the tightest of corners or where the car is very off balance, like the last corner at Suzuka East or the last hairpin at Tsukuba.

Generally I set the accel for most cars at 9-15 on CS and SH tires in the PP ranges we run. I start with 10-12 and adjust from there. When in doubt, always favour inside wheelspin with a lower figure as inside wheelspin is less likely to cause a spin or loss of control. It is those really high accel settings that causes cars to spin wildly out of hairpins or when off balance.

Initial

You can read Hami’s Guide if you want more info, for us what you need to know is:

Lower setting =more rotation on throttle and moving towards oversteer on the throttle
Higher Setting = less rotation on throttle and moving towards understeer on the throttle.

Most of my cars are 5-8. Again, we are not concerned about wringing every last tenth out of every car because our lap times are fixed targets, so usually the lower settings are better. There is also a threshold effect here. A lower setting for example moves you towards oversteer, but it doesn’t mean you will oversteer, because you many not have crossed the threshold combination of power and tires to get the car to oversteer, which is why low initial settings are very effective for us.

Deceleration

Lower Setting – more rotation off throttle, less stability, moving towards oversteer
Higher Setting – less rotation off throttle, more stability, moving towards understeer

Again, as with the initial settings, moving towards under/oversteer, is a threshold thing, a combination of various factors such as brake balance, tires, track etc. I like cars to be a little loose on entry because you can usually control it with a bit of throttle, even if you are on the brakes while it happens. I also tend to favour slightly higher front brakes for control so I’m less likely to enter oversteer mode under braking. Most of my cars are set at 5 on the Decel, with a few up as high as 10

Summary

Most of my LSD’s , in everything from 400PP street cars up to 600PP street and GT500 cars, are in this range of settings:

5-8/9-15/5-8.

Typically when trying to qualify a car, I give it the PP I think will be close, set the LSD around 5/10/5 and run a few laps. I use those first few laps to get a feel for the car and lap times. After a few laps I come in and adjust PP and the LSD as necessary. Run a few more laps and repeat. Almost never do I run laps just to tune the LSD, I just do it as I go along.

Give some of these settings a try in one of your cars in the near future and hopefully it'll allow to race with a little more confidence and mistake free, which always makes for better racing.:)

GUIDE TO SETTING UP THE LSD

snip

This is a great guide for our purposes and gives me reasons for why low settings are best, rather than me just following a tune and knowing that a tune with a lower LSD setting will be pretty good compared to some with really high LSD settings. Now I have reasons for this.

Oh, and nice font on the banner!

Welcome aboard Iforce:cheers: It is a good place to run those cars that can't compete in most PP limited racing but which are still fun to drive. I always wanted to race the Vette' I picked this week somewhere, anywhere, but it just can't keep up at 450-500PP. Fits in perfectly though at Suzuka East this week and handles amazingly well to boot!!

I run as low a setting as possible on all my cars, no matter what tire or PP level they are at, not just here in DeadNuts. I find I have much better control of the car that way, especially on the throttle, with less danger of the car pushing wide, and therefore being able to get on the throttle that split second earlier. Since 100% of the power is always delivered to the wheels, once you gain control of wheelspin under acceleration, fine tuning by adjusting the initial for over or understeer under throttle is fairly simple.

I kept getting random disconnection ... :( tried to join the lounge to no avail, I just got DC'd from my own lounge after a few minutes :grumpy: I had a great session earlier with Naptown, then suddenly DC'd, it was smooth yesterday ... will try again later. Tested BMW Z4 M Coupe, Scion FRS, Skyline HR32 GTS at Cape South, all are capable 1:29.xxx with around 435pp to 445pp. Now tuning Lancer EVO V GSR'98, should be able to do it at 445pp.

I'm gonna show up in:
dsgerbc / Range Stormer Concept '04/ 466 PP / Tuned / ABS=1

Wanna see if I can enjoy racing in a car that doesn't handle well.

sagarismic / Mazda RX-8 Type S '07 / Premium / 425PP / Light Tune / No ABS

For a start. I plan to put in more work to try and tune the car to be more stable. Might decide to use ABS, but that should completely change the character of the car under braking and on initial turn in.

I also have a neutral handling suspension + LSD tune for the RX8, done without ABS as all my tunes are :D I'll post it here if you are interested Sag.

I'll be opening another noABS Open Lobby this afternoon if anyone wants to come and join in the fun. Probably around 3-4 EST. 400CS to 500SM. I rule with an iron fist so it should be as clean as last time where we had zero contact in the first corner for the several races we ran. If we get a small turnout I'll test and tune...

I might join in and crash into everyone with my tragic "no ABS" skills...

LOL...that's epic!!! Well done Ferrari, well done:tup:👍

Room UP!

Ferrari has kindly taken a few pics for the OP...some of them will be showing up soon....it really is excellent work.

Thanks to Cote, Ferrari and Orido for showing up in the noABS room today. We did get some very good races in, amazingly almost without incident. Thanks guys! The room may still be going if anyone is interested. I left Ferrari and Orido in there a few minutes ago..

It's closed now, we have one last race at Cape South, I lost :D, Ferrari needs something to eat ... his NSX was quick, my full fat Z34 can't keep up on the last lap :) The Z34 did low 1:28s earlier in testing with about the same PP ( 5 less ), but Ferrari best lap was low 1:27s, the next event would be exciting :)

I'll post some pics of the race, the close calls ;)

The closest 1st corner entry

Mazda RX-8 Type S 07'
Tuned for Suzuka East on CS tires, 1:01

Here is my tune, tried it at 425pp - Suzuka East online, 1:01.1xx to 1:01.6xxx average.

Horsepower: 241 hp at 8100 RPM
Torque: 162 ft-lb at 6200 RPM
Power Limiter at : 94.4%
Weight: 1310 kg
Performance Points: 425

Tuning Parts Installed :
Semi Racing Exhaust
Full Customizable Transmission
Suspension Fully Customizable Kit
Clutch Twin Plate
Flywheel Semi Racing
Adjustable LSD
Carbon Drive Shaft

LSD
Initial Torque : 7
Acceleration Sensitivity: 12
Braking Sensitivity: 5

Suspension :
Front, Rear

Ride Height: -5 0
Spring Rate: 5.5 5.0
Dampers (Extension): 5 6
Dampers (Compression): 2 3
Anti-Roll Bars: 4 3
Camber Angle: 2.0 1.8
Toe Angle: 0.20 0.05

Suspension is set for the middle range, not too hard and not too soft, neutral under braking, maintain smooth throttle on the esses and be brave with the steering as it's tuned for responsive turn in to hit all the apexes then hug it, this car will glide smoothly close to 120+km/h average.

Transmission, I just use the top speed slider and final to adjust top speed to around 236km/h shown on top, then adjust each gear accordingly. The tune can also be used for the Cape South event, bump the PP to 435 ( 257HP ) or 445 (280HP), it should lap Cape South in low 1:29 or mid 1:28 :D or maybe even low 1:27, who knows :embarrassed:.

I like that pic too Orido, good job:tup:

Orido and I have entered the [post=7884511]FITT Racecar Tuning Challenge.[/post] I have included a huge shameless plug for DeadNuts in my tunes which you'll see if you click on the link. I've done well in these Shootouts before but it's a very tough and large field this time, with lots of top level tuners and lots of very fast cars so I'd be pretty happy with a top 5.

Thanks to Ferrari for giving me the tip on doubling the resolution of my photos using the magnifier option when taking a photo. I always thought it was just to zoom in, why would they name something that increases your resolution a magnifier? :dunce::dunce: Although both cars are standards, the photos look fairly decent.

EDIT: I'll get my RX-8 tune up tomorrow Sag..in the morning

Mazda RX-8 Type S 07
Tuned for Suzuka East on CS tires, 1:01

Comments - This is a pre-2.09 tune not yet updated, detuned from 450PP. It could use more agressive camber and toe, but of course then it would be faster in the corners and you'd have to shave off some HP to compensate, which you probaby don't want to do. It's definitely a handling car. You may have a go at skipping the weight reduction or adding a lot of ballast.

This car works everywhere on every track, small and twisty or big and fast. The RX-8 is one of the best bang for the buck PP cars in the game and one of the most universal. Everyone should have a couple of these in their garage.

Tuned for Suzuka East TT on CS tires, 58.98

Comments - This is a request from Cote. An extremely fast car, very agressive tune. Pretty much wide open through the entire esses. Had I a "dirty oil" car and the 5 more HP that comes with it, I'm sure I could make the top 200 easily with this tune. Fun to drive car, may show up in a special "one make" open tuning DeadNuts Event in the future:idea:
