Decide to contact Porsche today.

Did you take a moment to consider what Porsche might loose?

Just a few million £ nothing really i suppose but if PD aren't willing to pay it then they don't get.

Porsche could lose a couple million of these $. Anyways, Porsche will not acknowledge a e-mail with bad grammar they are a business not your friend. He could also make a bad name for:gtplanet: using grammar like that.👎

So Porsche allow EA to decide how to promote their cars. I think Porsche don't know that NFS is an arcade game and not a driving simulator. There is a difference there and different gamers also. Arcade lovers or simulators lovers.

My opinion is that Porsche is wrong and ignorant!!!!!!!!

Porsche is right! If EA offered you say £50,000,000 to use their cars in their game compared to £20,000,000 that say PD offered who would you give it to?

So basically the reason being EA wants a big bag of cash from PD and PD isn't willing to pay. Maybe we will see Porsche in GT6 when the Porsche and EA deal expires.

Sheez, I wasn't going to post, and I may regret being part of this thread, but a few brief things may help:

- I've worked with nearly all the auto companies, including Porsche. The people I've dealt with from there and good people who actually care about their perception, especially among enthusiasts. It would be stupid not to, after all; it is Porsche.

- I haven't dealt with the people at the top level in Germany, but Porsche has been described as an investment house that happens to make cars, so money is important to them. It's probably how they survived for so long. After all, how many independent high-end, high-performance car manufacturers are left outside the niche market. Any? The trouble for Porsche started when the global economy took a massive downturn and the company's investments collapsed.

- I don't have inside knowledge of this, either, but we do know that at some point EA and Porsche had a contract, and deciding to break one of those gets complicated, with a lot of lawyers racking up legal fees. Given Porsche's financial issues and focus, it may have decided it had more pressing battles.

- Porsche will soon be part of VW Group, which has not been shy about getting all of its brands into a lot of games. So, while it may be too late for GT5, I'll be surprised if Porsches don't start becoming as ubiquitous as Audis in racing and driving games.

Sertsa thank you for the actual indepth information and explanation!

Your logic seems pretty spot on, and hopefully if and when VW aquire Porsche then the issues that currently block PD will be removed hopefully if it's after game release then DLC :D

That's not it at all, EA are in the privileged position of holding a deal that in many ways makes them exclusive license holders to the representaiton of Porsche cars in computer games. It doesn't matter how much PD offered Porsche to let them appear in GT5, it could be twice what EA paid but that wouldn't make the deal happen, because EA already hold a signed contract. What is being said is that Porsche allow EA to sublicense Porsche to other companies, so PD would have to come to an agreement with EA. EA are a massive company, and from other things I've heared about EA's relationship with Sony, is that EA are trying to push thier weight around a bit. They are certainly big enough to influence decisions Sony will make and denying PD the ability to use Porsche in GT5 but granting that ability to Turn10 could be, behind closed doors, the move of a chess piece from EA in an attempt to force Sonys hand in another matter. Alternatively it could simply be financial and that EA are simply asking for too much money for the sublicense.

You haven't google "997 engine failure" lately have you?

As I said our heartfelt letter are no match to MS millions, end of story. Porsche will be EA and MS(MS will buy EA soon so good bye Porsche in GT)

Kinetic - Thanks. For better or worse, it looks like both Porsche and EA may both become parts of much larger companies.

Holdenhsvgtsr - No, well I hadn't before, since I don't own a Porsche, and that does look bad. I can only say that the people I've dealt with at Porsche have been some of the better ones in the auto industry. I can't say any of the auto manufacturers are a great pain to deal with--well, one is close--but some aren't nearly as pleasant as others.

You know what's funny, last year Porsche was about to buy Volkswagon:

March 3, 2008, 3:49 pm
Porsche to Buy VW
By Richard S. Chang
On Monday, Porsche gained approval from its supervisory board to raise its stake in Volkswagen from 31 percent to more than 50 percent.

Porsche already owns options for VW shares — allowing it to amass a majority stake quickly — but the company said it wouldn’t go ahead with the purchase until the move was approved by European and other regulators, a process that Porsche expects to last several months.

According to the International Herald Tribune, Porsche does not plan on merging the two companies:

“Our aim is to create one of the strongest and most innovative automobile alliances in the world, which is able to measure up to the increased international competition,” Porsche’s chief executive, Wendelin Wiedeking, said after the special board vote.

Wiedeking has said that Volkswagen should compete with Toyota of Japan to be the No. 1 mass-market manufacturer — a lofty goal, given Volkswagen’s diminished presence in the United States.

Earlier in the day, VW announced that it was raising its stake in Scania, a Swedish truckmaker, to 68.6 percent.

Porsche and VW said that the two deals aren’t linked, but according to the I.H.T., “analysts noted that as the majority owner of Volkswagen, Porsche would have a greater say in how its truck operations were organized.”

Waste of time. Do you think they don't know all you suggested? They are licensed to other developers, simple as that. You simply got a standard reply, and the reality is nobody else at Porsche will read that e-mail.
Indeed. A couple of fans sending emails to Porsche is not going to magically cause their cars to appear in GT5. Unfortunately...

I know this is nothing new but this is what I got back from Porsche NA Product Placement.

This is what I sent...

Dear Mr. XXXX,

After carefully combing the Porsche North America website I came
across your contact for Porsche Product Placement. The reason I am
writing to you is to advocate a great product placement opportunity
that could benefit both your organization, Porsche of North American,
and Porsche AG. The video game Gran Turismo 5, developed by Polyphony
Digital, is one of the premier racing simulations of our generation
and its hugely successful franchise has spanned over 10 years of
automotive realism and creativity. The Gran Turismo franchise has
included many premier automobile manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes
Benz, Aston Martin, and more recently Lamborghini, Ferrari, and
Bugatti. Unfortunately, Porsche AG has consistently been left out of
the development process.

This is ultimately the reason I am writing to you. Porsche is
undoubtedly one of the most successful automobile manufacturers in the
world with a wide following of enthusiasts that span many
generations. There are those who were there for the dawn of the
Porsche age with the 356, those who witnessed the introduction of the
911 and then the first water-cooled Porsche with the 996 911, and
finally and most recently, those who fawned after the newly released
2010 911 GT3 RS. All of these generations, united in their
infatuation with Porsche. With that said, the video game industry
represents one of the greatest resources for the placement and
marketing of products since the advent of the television itself. The
Gran Turismo franchise, and most recently Gran Turismo 5, has the
largest and most enthusiastic following of any racing game on the
market and has one of the best simulation based racing games available
today. The placement of Porsche products in this particular video
game would be a huge advantage, not only for an automotive sales
purposes, but for keeping the infatuation with Porsche and all that it
stands for intact for many generations to come.

In closing, I would like to sincerely thank you for your time. I
really do hope that you take the idea that I've presented, in some
capacity, to the next level. It would be a shame to see Porsche, one
of the greatest and historically rich car manufacturers, left out of
what looks to be one of the greatest games of all time.

Thanks so much!

Here is his reply...

zuggerat,

Porsche AG has an exclusive contract in place with EA.

Sorry,

Not sure if he actually read what I wrote or if he saw GT5 and went, "Oh God, not another one". So it is what it is and at the very least, I spelled Porsche right, haha!

Anyone want me to follow up and with what?

Yup, back when it looked like all those investments gave them absurdly deep pockets. Then the world changed, Porsche is heavily in debt and authorities raided their offices. What a difference.

xStretch - Ferdinand just designed the engine to putter really, really fast the second time around. (OK, not really, but both cars began from the same guy's pen. I wonder if it may even be the same pen. And soon they'll share even more).

Very well written letter, thx for your efforts.👍
And we have confirmation that it's a conract/licence thing with EA, nice.

PD: Hello is that Porsche?

Porsche: Yes it is, how may we help you?

PD: Its PD here and we would like to incorporate your vehicles into our next game.

Porsche: err....nah, we'd rather have our cars featured now not 5 years down the line. Anyways being a Porsche (espcially a 911) the fronts are really light and they bob up and down over crests, and the steering is so communicative you can feel lots through the rim and as its rear wheel drive they leave some big dirty F. off skid-marks and as your cars glide around the rack as if on rails, don't have any feel at all through the wheel and embarrassingly don't have skid marks (I have a free car game on my phone which has skid-marks) so i think you'd better ask again when you have caught up with the competetion, well at least the free game on my phone anyways.

PD: Hold on our cars look the best?

Porsche: Whoopy Doo.

PD: Ok we'll be back in 6 months. No make that 12 months.

Porsrche: Er,.. Oh right, Ok, whatever, anyway chaps must dash only the guys are here to model our new Panamera.

PD: bet they don't model it as good as us?

Porsche: Bye.

I just got the 2nd answer from Porsche!

The story so far: I sent an e-mail to Porsche, asking them whether they can afford not to be in Gran Turismo, on which they replied that they have an exclusive license with Electronic Arts which they don't want to break (read here). Then, I replied that there are non-EA-games (like GTR or Forza) which do have Porsche cars. Here's their answer:

Wow, thank you very much for your efforts, really.
I mean, you answered, doubtlessly, why Porsche is not in GT5. Just remember how big the "Will Porsche be in GT"-thread already is, and than you arrive with the answer (or at least WHY Porsche isn't there), again 1000*👍.

Sounds like someone at Porsche confused GT with Forza....aaaand clearly they don't play NFS......:sly:

maybe they haven't heard of the bouncy glitch of NFS Shift? someone should add a clip or youtube link of that in one of those emails..

I put in my 2 cents:

To my Dear Friends at Porsche,
Allow me to state that I am and forever will be a loyal fan of the Porsche marque. From a young age, i developed a love for Porsche automobiles. I bought Porsche shirts, Video games, (Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed) and even Porsche wallets! Throughout college, i worked at a local grocery store, slowly saving up the money for my first Porsche, a Guards Red 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. Needless to say, I am a Porsche loyalist. I am inquiring as to why Porsche isn't involved in the Gran Turismo racing series, as featured on Sony's Playstation 3. Yes, I realize Porsche has an exclusivity agreement with Electronic Arts, but if I'm not mistaken, it is due to expire next year (being a 10 year agreement). What i don't understand is why Porsche allows it's cars to be included in Microsoft's game, Forza 3, but not included in Gran Turismo. From a marketing perspective, this baffles me, as i would think Porsche would be happy to increase it's fan base through video gaming. I realize my e-mail probably won't change the current state of affairs regarding this matter, but i thought I'd try my luck anyway. Could Porsche cars be included in the lastest Gran Turismo series, GT5? Unfortunatley, the lack of Zuffenhausen's presence in the game is being filled by a lesser, subsidary manufacturer, which bases it's cars off of your automobiles: RUF. By including your automobiles in this game, you would be bringing joy to the life of many automotive enthusiasts and Porsche diehards alike.

Sincerly Yours,
Sean M.

Do you guys have such high hopes for Porsche to be in a video game that you guys are actually sending emails to a guy at Porsche who's job is to send back a generic response?

I wish I had that much amount of hope for anything in my life.

Edit: I should send them an email asking Porsche if they got peeved by all the emails.

I really hope Porsche is on the game but there's no way a bunch of e-mails from video gamers are going to get through million dollar corporate contracts and such. The only thing that would've been able to get Polyphony a usage license would have been themselves and Sony; if that didn't happen there are obviously reasons as to why both companies did not reach an agreement (involving large sums of money and lawyers). A point is: EA releases NFS games every so often as well as Turn 10 or whatever they are called, therefore benefitting from more revenue which can go to exclusive licensing and such, unfortunately in this world quantity beats quality.

Silly topic by all measures.

But somehow you still managed to take the time and effort in spamming in it because you don't have better things to do.

Thanks Wildchildpr and zuggerat, (or anyone else I missed :sly:) for your kind efforts. It's people like you that make coming here so exciting! (At least for me)
