...Maybe the gaming industry then should think of new ways announcing games or managing their projects (not saying I have a better idea right now)....
I reckon they have, and it's called Early Access.

Personally I'm not a big fan of that concept; it means the publisher/devs never have to commit to or fulfil anything. The community interaction isn't very organized, and the community members doesn't necessarily need to (or feel like they ought to) make any sort of commitment. IMO Early Access is counterproductive w.r.t. the whole idea of making commitments and releasing finished games. I know, this is probably not a popular view, and lots of people love it; it's a form of instant gratification, after all.

I like WMD a lot more (it is also a "new way") :) It involves a very high level of commitment and accountability from both the devs and the community.

Customer is king, remember that.
Of course, and it's important that when his product is delivered it's fully functioning and performing as advertised. When buying luxury items, which videogames are, the most important thing is to have as close to a bug free experience as possible to avoid putting the customer through needless aggravation by releasing your product too soon due to pressure from the gaming community.

The customer is not always king. Granted there essential the the success of a product.
But the consumer with any product will say they want one thing and actually mean another more often than not. You see it in all sorts of products. The issue lies in consumer not understanding the implication of their choice. And that's something we see in gaming industry that has a negative effect. One such issue created by consumer is this early access trend.

The early access model is a bit like communism in theory it's brilliant every one contributes to and shares the load. So everybody is in equal standing. However like the current early access it's anything but that. Early access as we see on steam does not work. The community hub is full of random threads with no organisation. To give you an idea for those that haven't seen it imagine if all the sub forums were merged into the main gt one then remove the moderators. The most successful early access games avoid steam altogether and have similar processes to WMD. With their Own forums with dedicated sub forums for each element.

while consumers are essential, they can also be easily manipulated. As we have seen many a time in early access.

No, no. the customer IS always king. ALWAYS! If you think your customer says one thing and means another, you don't know your customer.

Yeah customer is king, but who is your customer ? The customer of Pcars is not 1 person with 1 opinion.
Which customer are you gonna serve ? Some customers want more roadcars and less racecars and another customer wants driftcars and other people want a pure race game. Witch of those customer are you gonna serve ?
At the end SMS takes the decision.

Yes, SMS has taken the decision to serve the customer who doesn't want the game released on time.

I much rather a delayed release vs. an unfinished and/or buggy game. Look at the life of GT6 for our best example. Surely they didnt want to do this, but lets give them the best chance to get it right, the first time.

And that's the problem with customers. They come out with nonsense like this from time to time.

As has been said 'customers' is a broad term. I'm a customer (LE) and have no issue with the delay as I would much rather it take an extra two weeks if it means the final product is more likely to be 'issue' free at launch. So I would argue that SMS has taken a decision to serve customers like me.

I guarantee you pCARS will still not be issue free at launch.

And how is my statement "nonsense", is the game not being delayed now?

Every game has issues at launch. SMS are making sure PCARS has as little issues as possible

Good job I didn't say it would be then.

So you can provide a source to back up your claim that SMS "has taken the decision to serve the customer who doesn't want the game released on time."?

I await that with interest.

When it was first delayed last November, I recall one of the reasons given was to avoid getting lost in the rush of game launches pre Xmas. I read yesterday that Grand Theft Auto 5 launches on March 24th. Maybe they're side-stepping that. Just a thought ...

Oh, wasn't there a statement saying the game is delayed until April 2nd? You must have missed that one.

Cut the attitude and cut it now (or you will be taking some time out).

No one is disputing the delay, your reasoning for it (which you are stating as fact without citation) is the issue.

I can't see where I stated anything about the reason for the delay. I just said, SMS have made the decision to serve the customers that want a more finished product.

I understand, I'm right and you are mad. sorry.

*Rant Removed*

Sorry you were bullied at school, but it wasnt me.

Actually @iQuacks I had no intention of banning you, but a sweary abusive rant on your part soon changed that.

No you said "SMS has taken the decision to serve the customer who doesn't want the game released on time", which is quite different. No one wants a delay, but many (not yourself) are willing to accept a delay to get a more finished product.

That you had to change what you said clearly illustrates you know your mistake, that you used an abusive rant to try and cover it simply shows you for the kind of person we have no time for at GTP.

Bye.
