Isuzu VehiCROSS

Why didn't this sell more? Oh, wait, I know: poor off-road ability, minimal cargo area, sluggish performance, and the visibility of a Sherman tank.
Actually, it was quite quick and amazingly good off-road for what it was.

The main difference is the front lip:
Couldn't one just look at the lack of fog lights on the 575 to tell which one it was?

Are the ones in your picture in the last post stock?

No - very aftermarket. Stock:

You mean amazingly good off-road for a horrible SUV?

Couldn't one just look at the lack of fog lights on the 575 to tell which one it was?

Of course, but he asked for the differences so I gave them to him. I mentioned the front lip. You even quoted it.

They've got the same number of spokes. The similarities pretty much end there.

Indeed. Stock wheels on a normal Maybach:

So there's definitely a difference between that and a 57S - but I have to spot the badges, because all the Atlanta 57S's are sittin' on 22s.

For the record, I've seen nine Maybachs, only three of which had stock wheels.

Damn. I've only seen 3, and 2 were 57's. All were stock.

I've been pretty lucky in the Maybach department, especially considering that to this day none are registered in my home state! Luckier with Phantoms though - I've seen eighteen unique Phantoms in the last nineteen months.

Hmm, I've seen 6 Phantoms ever, 4 with stock wheels.

I've only ever seen three on non-stock rims: one was T.I.'s, one had Georgia license plate "1 FRUIT" (Elton John lives here...) and the other was parked near Diddy's - which was on stock rims.

Diddy's... like Sean Combs? T.I.'s? As in the Rubberband Man's? **faints*

And since you seem to be a rap fan, here's Young Jeezy's Murcielago Roadster. It's featured prominently in the video of his new single, "I Luv It":

Dammit, how come I h'aint seen Snoop Deville yet?

 Do you really want to see Snoop? The man scares me.

You mean amazingly good off-road for a horrible SUV?
No. I mean amazingly good off-road for anything. It went everywhere. Motor Trend said so. I've seen videos of them doing so. I've seen them go toe-to-toe with CJ's in real life.
You've even agreed to it before, or at least didn't bother arguing the point. But you definitily said there really wasn't anything majorly wrong with it other than the lack of doors.

Doug

I realise that. I was just wondering why you didn't mention the foglights. It wasn't meant to be a statement. It was actually meant to be a question.

I'm surprised you haven't spotted the men themselves, in reality.

Snoop? No. His cars? Yes. Why does he scare you?

And Jeezy is teh pwn. T.I.'s okay, but not much of a lyricist. Diddy--well Im just not that big a fan of his work.

I think the more you see, the more you get to like it - I agree that the CL and the NSX look perfect in it, but I think Infiniti and Nissan have pulled that color off too, and I think many cars would look good in it if there were more of them.

I think the car has to look good to begin with to even consider exotic colors. It's probably why the Elise & Murcielago have so many optional flourescent paints.

Standard Maybach Type 57 - not a 57S - those are badged specially on the sides and rear with a very tacky badge that says "57S" like so:

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j76/81401/cars/maybach/57s-102806.jpg

That's the side badge but the rear one looks the same. I'm loving the fact that the thing has medical doctor plates. By the way - snuck up on you? Hilariously accurate characterization of the Maybach's styling. Poor damn car. Four people know what it is: me, you, valets, and owners. That's the entire extent.

Right; should have caught that. It seems that the scaled-up-S-Class looks do the Maybach no favors when it comes to standing out. BMW made the Rolls Royce clearly a RR, and Audi did a fair job making sure Bentley was Bentley (Continental GT notwithstanding). Something went awry at Daimler-Chrysler's styling department when they resurrected the brand. At least the silly 70's two-tone paint job stand out somewhat. Perhaps the 70-year gap between Maybach models hinders the ability to draw on any sense of what a modern Maybach would look like.

EDIT: great sightings by the way. Well except for the VehiCross. Hideous.

I thought it was cool when it was new. The ads made it seem like a mid-size SUV. It wasn't until I saw it in person when I realized how odd it is. Best photo of one:

iz1999vx02concept01.jpg

Yeah, the one from the movie. :D Call me a sucker for bad sci-fi....

Actually, it was quite quick and amazingly good off-road for what it was.

That's the important qualifier: "for what it was". At that size, it was way too expensive. $30,000 for a RAV4-sized SUV? From Isuzu?? A Wrangler offers more utility and costs less. The design was challenging at best, but definitely polarizing (I thought it looked cool, though). The badge may have done it in, though. If this were released from Honda or Toyota, they'd be far more prevalent today.

Are you sure you don't work for MTv? Between those photos and being around the current "Real World" and a previous one....

That's part of the front lip!

I could if I wanted, the problem being that I don't know what they (with the exception of Diddy) look like. And you can't just find a black guy with a posse - that happens more often than you think in Atlanta.

Snoop? No. His cars? Yes. Why does he scare you?

He seems so low-class... his whole persona is scary. And weird.

Given how popular the Chrysler 300 is with the community that the Maybach is intended to target, if the Maybach had looked more like the 300 and less like the S-class, maybe it'd be more popular.

I agree - the Maybach is a horribly-styled car. However, I'd kill for an Exelero. I know they probably won't make it, but if they want to put the brand on the map, that's the way to do it. It's conspicuous consumption in the most conspicuous way possible - number one with a bullet.

 I promise - trust me, it's hard to photograph expensive cars in Atlanta and not catch an entertainer's every once in a while. They drive a lot of the wealthy scene here in town. Even the guys who haven't got the pimped-out Phantoms and Murcielagos are driving 360 Modenas and are producers, or entertainment lawyers, or club owners... that's just how it is here.

Those are amazingly rare here. I've never seen either. Where'd you see them?

Melbourne as always, from what I can remember though it was on a main road near the old exhibition building.

I initially thought, "Omg, a Fiat Coupe!" but I've found there are a few more than I thought around Australia. That maybe not so though on Victorian roads.

The red SSR was an amazing sight, especially for Australian roads which I spotted on the Monash Freeway. 👍

Oh man, what a day. Ferrari 599GTB, in black. First one I've seen and while they're not the best looking Ferrari (I certainly wouldn't have it in black, it has to be red) it certainly was a good sighting considering rarity factor. Also, a Lamborghini Gallardo in yellow.
I'm not sure on rarity but it's certainly the first one I've ever seen, a Aston Martin Vantage, the 1993-1999 model, the twin supercharged model. I only saw it peeking out of a driveway but a large intercooler gave away the fact that it was supercharged.
Also a few Porsches, RS4 and S4 Audis, 1966 Mustang convertible......I'm sure I'm forgetting some others....god I wish I'd bought a camera.

It's up there in the Esprit's category - very unusual, but not very expensive, and limited by its faults. I've never seen a Virage, Vantage, or V8 of that generation, and it's a good spot. 👍 Also, I love the 599 GTB - seems like I'm the only one here who's not seen one!

Yeah, I have only seen one on the road and it was in the Adelaide hills.

Somebody's got deep pockets if they consider £178,000 to be 'not very expensive' - especially in 1993!

Agreed - but check the prices today - most of them are hovering around $60k, and it's not uncommon to see them dipping into the high $50k range.

You can get a standard Virage for around £30k ($60k) in the UK - but i've never seen a Virage Vantage for under £60k ($120k).

That reminds me, I also saw a Esprit :D

I was really amazed at the 599GTB, they haven't been out for very long at all and it's probably the one of the fastest Ferraris I've ever seen.

And while I was out this morning I saw a Lamborghini Countach. Understandably this gained my attention and so I almost fell out of the car trying to have a look. However it almost as quickly lost my attention as I heard the smallblock V8 rumble past. The replica was very good but the noise ruined the impression though.

The 599GTB must have something about being black. Maybe it hides some of its "hideous" styling.

Either way, I've seen the 599GTB in black, chaser has seen it in black, and now Rev has the seen the 599GTB...in black.

I wouldn't be surprised if you caught it in black.

No, but I saw a yellow one today that did a great job replicating one except for the wheels, and exhaust pipes coming out the rear.

Where? And it did have the high rise wing on it right? I bet it was the same guy that I saw years ago. But this guy had the correct wheels. As much as we mock those "cloners" I am guilty of liking a good one. Hell, if I ever got a Cobra I'd do the conversion. Even further I'd drop a Cobra motor in a GT and then do the conversion. Only thing that would give it away is I would paint it yellow. Dandelion Yellow to be exact.

Trivia (no googling!) what cool car uses this color?

He was turning off Plano Parkway to get onto George Bush.
Yeah, he pretty much did everything right, except for those 2 things. I would probably do a conversion too, but only when I had the money to do everything nearly at once.

I don't like modifying one bit a of a car as soon as you have the money (exterior wise). If I want to mod the exterior, I want everything done at once so my car doesn't look like a cheap POS.

As for the color, is it from Honda's Type R cars?

i believe that colour was listed in GT3 and 4 on the Mitsu evo IV? (wait gt3 didnt have the evo IV, evo V then?)

anyway, i saw my one of my old favourite benzes today, a red 500SL(last version before it was changed to SL500) and then the only-very-slightly-newer-but-same-body-style SL500 (R129 says google) :)

Agreed. I would have to get everything prepared before I slapped it all on. That would include the interior trim as well. Talk about some expensive stuff.

Correct. The EVO had that yellow, such a great color. I believe the EVO III -> VII had that same yellow. Any EVO fans out there that can verify?
