Fast and loud. I usually make fun of the noises those cars make--like a tiny diesel or huge lawnmower--but I do have a sweet spot for them in my heart. No other car on the road sounds like an SRT-4, sort of like how few car enthusiasts can mistake a Subaru boxer or a Mustang V8. The SRT-4s are one of those rare cars that really have their own personality.

...

Hang on a second. You "wish they were more common"? Woah. I personally know five people who own Neon SRT-4s. One of those has about 350 hp (and an electronic exhaust cutoff ) and two have about 280 hp. It's become a joke with the people at the meets I attend. We've had a group of 9 SRT-4s before. I distinctly remember there being 3 Hondas there. There were only about 40 cars in total.

Maybe I'm not thinking straight but... isn't 350hp a little excessive for a FWD vehicle? Or I'm just dumb I just think for a FWD vehicle 350hp is pointless. Plus the car seems plenty fast enough the way it is now for me.

And as far as how common they are of course I see one everyday since we own one but I really don't see too many SRT-4s trolling around here. I see a silver one that's modified a little and a black on black one that I see kind of frequently but other then that, that's about it.

Which is funny because I used to make fun of GTP for having so many SRT-4 owners.

:grumpy:

I remember that quite clearly... :nervous:

Well when you are laying in bed at midnight and hear BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR pssst BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR (yes I live on a main road) they irk me.

One of my neighbors has one, and you always know its him when he pulls out. The idle is even stupidly loud on that thing, and the blow-off-valve is just funny sometimes... Particularly when he and the douchebag with the Honda (primer-coat DX coupe conversion) get together.

...I think the only car louder than that in my neighborhood is the vintage Ferrari (at least, I thought it was a vintage Ferrari), but I haven't seen/heard it in a while.

And the one neighbor with the Elise, well, I found that car to be louder than I had expected...

997 Turbo and Diablo VT or JC and the Devil! Cool Landie and a 964 RS 3.8 ('Turbo 3.8'?!?) Is what it said on the back...

Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart Turbo, Chaser Tourer-V, vanity plate and the Chief Executive of Hong Kong's Toyota Century V12 (HK flag for license plate) in a not entirely selubrious area!

Looks like the owner was confused too. Guess it's a Turbo 3.6 with a bodykit then...

 The Turbo 3.6 is a fantastic spot - I think less than 2,000 were made, all in one year - I knew all the details once, back when I spotted one, but don't think my spotting it makes it commonplace - I've seen just one in my entire life (versus two 997 GT3s already). It's a very rare car.

By the way - the Chief Executive's Century is your best spot yet - one of one!

I just looked into the Porker a bit more. Apparantly there were only 1,000 of the Turbo II 3.6 made. Mine was a Turbo II, right?

All Turbo 3.6's were Turbo II - the 'Turbo I' (called just 'Turbo') was simply the name given to the original 964 911 Turbo.

freakin nice cars you spotted there chaser.

:dopey: Whats the chief exec's car doing in the red light district i wonder:idea:

And the diablo........man oh man.....do i loveeee the diablo.

Or a Europe only Carrera RS 3.8 with a Turbo badge maybe. The Carrera RS 3.8 certainly looks like this car - where as the Turbo didn't look this way at all.

If it is a Carrera RS 3.8 then its way rarer than the Turbo II with only 129 made.

Well, the front did look exactly like the RS 3.8, with the black intakes (as below), so maybe. Unfortunately I didn't get the front quick enough, but it was the reason why I thought it wasn't a standard 964 when I saw it coming head on and got my phone out.

While I was driving to my dentist yesterday (a 400 km trip!), I spotted the most beautiful cars ever in my life. Sadly, I didn't bring with me my camera as the weather was really bad (rain all day) so I figured out no cool cars would be out there.

The first thing I spotted was a really old Ford or something. It's those cars from the 1940's, I was ever so amazed it was actually driving. While I followed this car driving, my eyes followed it towards the right and I discovered I was standing right next to a Ford dealer. Avoiding all those ugly European Fords, I spotted a yellow Mustang. (GT?) It's the latest model, but it had a convertible roof, yellow coloured with black stripes. (I didn't even know there were convertible Mustangs!).

A little further, on a parking lot, I spotted two exactly the same Porsches, grey and purple. I read on the rear "Carrera 4". It's an older model though...(mid '90s?).

Up as we drive, I'm looking forward to a car dealer where I'm exited everytime for what I'm about to see. This dealer is the nearest who deals in fast cars, sports and supercars. The last time I was there, I spotted a red Viper RT/10. This time, I saw what appeared to be an M5 (maybe some AC Schnitzer 5 series?), an M6 (in blue, my word ), some Mercedes (CL 63? AMG?), it was something 63 model...And a red Ferrari which has been mentioned by M5Power a few posts back (346?). Amazing cars 👍

For the next hours, I saw nothing but slammed Blazers and riced BMW's 👎. However, the best part was yet to come of my day. When returning home, my little brother said "Hey Bram! Look at that!" It appeared to be a Corvette, a black C5 Z06. I've spotted one in Sweden before, but never so close 👍

In terms of cars spotting, the best day I ever had 👍 I'm definitly not forgetting my camera next time, that next time is 22nd June. A lot of sun, a lot of cars who knows

Just heard from my dad that he saw a Ferrari Enzo in red today on his daily trip home from Wyton in the UK. Apparently he gave it a run for its money almost overtaking it in his Nissan Micra (K Reg) . Sadly no pictures but he was driving so he has an excuse...this time.

Well....i can overtake a veyron on a moped as well...:dopey:
when its stuck in traffic:)

Don't get me wrong, I love the SRT Chryslers - but there's something to be said for subtlety like Audi does it.

The previous S4s were even more sublte - just the tiny bootlid lip, six-spokers and a very minorly different front end.

Have we ever tried to figure out who has the most-rare car?

I know my Panoz would be in the running...

Although not in this thread, I've seen a couple FXX's and 4 Ferrari 250GTOs, those are fairly rare (29 FXXs?)

I think there might be 30 FXXs by now. Didn't you catch them at a show?

I was camping in Bethesda this weekend and say no less than 10 911s of varying ages. The only one really worth photographing was a yellow one similar to the one a few posts up, I couldn't tell whether it was a 930 or a 964 but it was a wide body slant nose, with projectors in place of the usual pop-ups. Does this sound like any specific car or just someone who put a lot of money into a standard 911? I'll try and get a photo up if I can get some batteries

Acura NSX - I consider this rare because this is the first one i've seen in a very looong time and it looked very nice. Red, lowered, black rims... deep dish. I loved it.

Not a big day, but one big special model:

GMC Envoy XUV: Super rare, despite really neat ideas.

Saturn Sky: I followed the car home after it pulled out of the dealer. I hope the new owners are happy with their purchase!

Wow an XUV! I think I've seen 2 of those since the start of the year. It was a cool idea but it didn't really fit in anywhere, it sort of answered the questioned no one asked. My girlfriends parents used to have one before they got their Avalanche (which is another odd, yet cool concepted, vehicle).

I dunno. I thought the XUV had a lot of neat tricks, but then again, this is coming from someone who has an Avalanche already...

...Either way, its only the second XUV I can specifically recall since their debut. The first one I spotted was a GM test truck a long, long time ago not too far from Grattan Raceway (it was fueling-up... GM likes to test cars not too far from where I grew up). Of course there were the XUVs at the auto shows as well, but since they stopped making them, this is probably the only one I've seen.

The only really bad thing I remember hearing was that the roof would leak on some models...

EDIT:

In an attempt to find production numbers, I've only come across the 12K for 2004. They stopped making them in 2005.

I saw a lime green Dodge Charger Daytona R/T. Dunno how rare it is, but I've never seen one before.

EDIT: Where can I find a key for license plates so I can look up a car's information? I think doug knows.

What you saw was the 2007 color for the Daytona R/T's. Last year was yellow. Next year, it'll be purple.

Thanks for the shots - had to comment on this one - that would be a 328 GTS - speaking of which, I've just realized that you're obviously some sort of thief, breaking into athletes' homes and photographing their championship rings (or automobiles). What else could explain all the photos where you're 'not driving' (the wheelman is) and all the cars from 'someone's' garage (the people you're robbing)? :D I'm on to you, DeNiro!

Ack! You've caught me! Sprewell's going to kill me....

How long did it take you to figure that other part out?

I know the Viper splits opinion, but be honest - this is just a great bit of photography. Sure, the subject helps a bit - but I think I deserve some credit here.

Funny, I took a photo of the same car, same color, about 4 months ago and it, too, came out spectacularly. :sly:

The pictures can do most of the talking but a few sidenotes: after a long photo session, I called my friends; when they came and began taking photos the valet came up told us to stop taking pictures, saying the owner had complained. Yeah, right. Being in the public domain we didn't have to stop, but we did anyway.

I can understand someone's apprehension about having their car photographed, especially if they're still in it. The northeast US isn't like Miami or Atlanta -- it's anything but glitzy (which is why I like it). If I were unaware of the whole exotic-spotter scene, I'd really wonder why someone would photograph my TR2, having finally got it running again.... Americans have a bizzare sense of privacy. We desperately want our private lives private, but then so many of us just post it on the web anyway. Or we want to be on TV. Or we want to be famous. Or both. And then sue someone in court for "stealing" our home movies, the one that was supposed to be erased last summer....

I just try to be sneaky about it, and I keep a copy of The Photographer's Rights (see the attached PDF). Very handy, despite never having had to use it. Next time you're a tourist in NYC, bring several copies. Too many paranoid "security experts" around.

Been busy so I haven't had time to post much, but I do have actual contributions to be made here, I just have to get around to doing it. Then I'm off to Vegas for a week or two. Provided I don't get distracted too much, I should have more than a handful of interesting shots then.
