Love the last shot Doug! Imagine if your wing mirror was a Ferrari's or Aston's. And I seriously couldn't stop laughing when I saw the Prius. +Rep

Hey! I drive a hybrid, what's wrong with us hybrid drivers!? :P

Its nothing personal, but I just have issues with people who buy hybrids and then go about telling me that I'm ruining the environment by not driving one, and furthermore, go about it without really knowing anything about their cars. Generally speaking, they are paying more for their hybrid and actually getting less back by comparison to many diesel and other small-engine petrol models, by which on many occasions receive similar, if not better, MPG figures.

New EPA tests do a much better job accurately detecting Hybrid fuel mileage testing, and actually gives a greater advantage to larger displacement engines, or those that are designed with more torque in mind.

...Although offical EPA figures have yet to be produced, rumors continue to suggest that the new VW TDI models will produce 40 MPG City and 60 MPG Highway, better than the Prius, which last I checked was lucky to perform 60/50, if even that these days. Either way, the cost of buying a diesel by comparison to a hybrid is much lower (if I recall, the price increase is less than five percent on the diesel, more than ten percent in some cases with the hybrid), and in return, lower fuel costs make up the difference more quickly than with the Hybrid.

Oh, and lest we forget:

- Battery creation and disposal issues (environmental rape on both ends)
- Electrical issues (crash + voltage = bad)
- Fire issues (hot battery + battery acid + fire = really bad)
- Computer issues (some Prius' have been known to randomly "crash")

...And the overall stuck-up nature of the majority of Hybrid drivers...

When they have the guts to flip my Dad off when he is driving his Avalanche, they'd better hope he is in a good mood. Give him a chance with the trailer hitch on the back, he'll play braking games to try and get the guy behind him to crash into the rear end.

Its just a guess, but between a Prius and an Avalanche, I think the Chevy would win...

===

And yes, I do realize that GM wants to do hybrids, and I hate it. At least I have my VW diesels to keep me happy...

When I first saw it, it I thought maybe it was a GT40 inspired kit car. MistaX insists it isn't.

Edit: I'm fairly sure it's a fiberfab something or other kit car.

It's a Kelmark GT by them.
EDIT*
Nevermind. Nota on UCP pointed out it's an Avenger-Valkirie by fiberfab.

Doug:
That appears to be a Callaway modification on the front.

Bah you can't hate the drivers of them, I don't own the car!

It's a highlander hybrid, and I don't think anything of it about driving a hybrid. I don't care what I drive.

...If I was the dude in the Lambo I would have had a constant 'finger' in the air directed at the Prius, then I would have proceeded to burn unnecessary amounts of rubber just to piss that douche-bag off...

Have I mentioned that I hate the Prius and the people who drive them?

Yeah, lets all smoke rubber in faces of people who like cars that are environmentally friendly and have good fuel economy 👎 (Even if they are nonsensically expensive).

Round 2:

Just Some General Shots:

Yet more will be added in a slideshow shortly, so while I do that, watch these:
(PLease note I havent got the greatest camera phone in the world, only 2.0 MP)
PIT LANE: it turns out i wasn't actually allowed in the pit lane due to my age and lack off pass therefore I was directed to the nearest exit with my dad and friend. Not before I couldn't snap this though!

Sitting in the stand:

EDIT: this is chelsea FC star Michael Ballack looking at the cars yesterday. My freind spotted him, so I just ahd to get him in a picture :D

Yeah, I found the thread you made on UCP, thanks. Before hand I went through a bunch of fiberfab cars and found that the Avenger/Valkirie was the closest thing that resembled it, but they all seem to have variations on the rear end which is what threw me and John off.

I want to make the guy an offer for it. :)

+1.
I completely agree with you here. My mom's boyfriend is one of... those. His arguement (he makes this point every time I argue about it) is that diesels pollute more through emissions. He argued that a Smart Car puts out more emissions than his Prius. Hardly the case, IMHO, as you have both a smaller engine in the Smart (even if it is a TD), and no massive battery to dispose of. With low-sulfur or Biodiesel, the Smart puts out no noticeable clouds of soot like you see with traditional diesels. You stand next to it when it's idling and you cannot smell any of the traditional diesel smell until you practically put your face to the tailpipe.
No, if you're looking for economy, the Prius isn't the answer. If you're looking for something that puts out low total emissions, then the Prius still isn't the answer. The Prius is only the answer for ignorant people who "Want to make a statement" (as my mom's BF puts it), and obviously don't realise that their money is going to develop monstrosities like the Tundra.

[Edit - That rep will have to come later, when I can actually give it to you.]

What’s the rational behind putting those damn things in the downtown portion of every major city?

Significantly more pedestrian and traffic friendly. We have a couple of two-way streets downtown and it's havoc. You wouldn't know having never lived anywhere but a big truck stop. :D

And by the way - regarding my Diablo photos - the guy in the Prius was actually quite interested in the car; he slowed and gawked as much as just about anyone (though the guy who was most interested was in the silver Toyota 4Runner you can see in a few of the shots).

EDIT: today's spots are good, but marginally tainted as a few of them came from the parking lot of Denver's Concours D'Elegance - which I consider true spots but some might not. Still worth viewing...

Shelby Cobra leaving the event. Presumably a fake, but it had all the correct badges, etc. It didn't have collector plates, subjecting it to an emissions test - and no Cobra owner would want that.

Super cool spots! :sly: I always like seeing sports cars next to pickups. I like how the top of the Lamboghini doesn't even reach the top of the hood on that F-150.:dopey: Btw, that Corvette is sweet, too. 👍👍

Thanks for the compliments - the Lamborghini is quite low, indeed, although the Diablo of yesterday is definitely lower - and more aggressive.

Spot of the night...

usvi-061007-2.jpg

That's a Honda Element - from the U.S. Virgin Islands. Folks - that's far. I've seen two vehicles before in my life from the Virgin Islands - one in Georgia, the other in Florida - and even those spots were nuts. This is just ridiculous. And yes it's cooler than an F430 and a Testarossa.

I think I have to pass on that being cooler than either the F430 and Testarossa, though my view of it is a little different being I have never seen a single Ferrari road car. But the two F1 cars of theirs that I have seen were really neat. I still am waiting for my first Ferrari road car spot, especially considering I have seen most every other manufacturer on the road.

But - have you ever seen a car from the Virgin Islands?

By the way - the 'Ferrari' section of my Photobucket contains 410 images of 105 unique Ferraris - I'm so lucky!

No, but a Honda Element with a Virgin Islands tag would not be anything special to me compared to a Ferrari. It is a lot different for you, as you see Ferraris on seemingly a daily basis. I have been living for over 22 years now and have yet to see a Ferrari on the road. I would much rather see a Ferrari on the road before I see a car with a Virgin Islands tag on it. Now maybe if we had a Ferrari with a Virgin Islands tag on it, then what I am saying might be a little different.

Get an R63 and then I'll be impressed!

Although truth be told I've seen just one ML63.

There's also the missing GL63 (which doesn't seem to be out yet, anyway). I'm determined to get all the AMG cars eventually, at least those released in the US.

You can paint body panels. You can't paint absence of body panels, especially not when they threaten to suck up more wildlife than a beluga whale.

I like the R8. I like all of it. There's no part I don't like. Okay, maybe the LEDs up front seem blingy. But that's it. Oh, and maybe the side panel should always be body color. But I only have a problem with those two things. Well, um, maybe that and the fact that it's a mid-engined supercar from Audi.

Other than that, I love it.

I have a sweeet find!

I was at a shopping center in Irvine, California and spotted this Nissan Skyline GT-R. I did some reference in Gran Turismo 4, and it seems to be a 1973 model year, rear wheel drive too.

Prolly the most out of the blue car I have ever spotted. It made my day.

If that's real (and not a clone), that is truly phenomenal. Most nice! 👍

Mercedes S63 [top] and CL63. First I had seen of either vehicle. Wow - the S63 looks sinister. Loved the opportunity to see them tonight.

Did it have the smoked rear lenses that the S65 has? The huge siamesed exhaust with the total blackness of the back end looks much more sinister than any other Mercedes on the road.

@ the cl63, are those the wheels they chose for the near-top-of-the-line model? I don't like those at all

There are quite a few options for wheels with AMG models, and Mercedes in general. Those are one of at least 8 available from the dealer.

Of course you could've mentioned that at the time of the post.

He could have, but the exhaust gave it away for me. The rolled ends are distinctly non-M, which have all had straight cut tips since the E39 M5:

Z4 M
E60 M5
Z3 M Roadster
E46 M3
M39 M5

But the US (and Japan) is no stranger to posing. Spend 5 minutes in NYC outside Manhattan and you'll see an endless supply of mis-badged Hondas, 325's, whatever. Posing is an art form for some people.

CCX

Got through most of that okay, then I saw those two and realized that I would be needing new pants. Oh, and I liked those videos.Sheesh. It's a miracle you can still hear. I said "IT'S A MIRACLE YOU CAN STILL HEAR."

Here, here:

Audi S4 Avant

Trying this new thing of driving and shooting the picture while not looking at the photo target. Works okay. Sometimes.

Maserati twins

Same day, miles apart, common as cheese.

Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG

This one was supercharged, unlike the last one.

Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

Shocker! It's not a Turbo S!

Bentley Continental GTC

I said it only works sometimes. This is not one of those times.

Aston Martin DB9 Volante

Over the past 8 weeks, I've seen three DB9 Volante's on this route, all different. It's highly unusual because I'm pretty sure no one in the area can really afford one (although they may be passing through, it's just that I don't see them in too many other places).

Toyotal Celica Supra

How old does it make you if you remember this car when it was new and thought, "That Supra name sure sounds silly"?

Chevrolet El Camino

Not an old one, but the license plate sold me on it. This one's in mint condition, but even then he'd have to ante up a lot of money if he expects to trade it in for an original.

Plymouth Prowler

I haven't seen many, but I've never seen one with the top up. Not even on the highway. I almost forgot it had one.

Morgan 4/4

Only because Doug & I were due for our moment of serendipity.

Citroen SM

I'll see it again, I'll get a better picture, but this caught me by surprise. The fuzziness is due to my choosing to stabilize the camera on the window ledge, which was still attached to the vibrating car.

These were in a car park but I'm sure they are special enough to be allowed:

okay, okay, this one definetly doesn't count, but it's so rare I thought some car-spotters in here may appreciate it:

rimg0132ve4.jpg

£10 for all non-Brits who can name the corner it's on!

To be honest it looked pretty innocous in that car park unlike the SLR which had more prescence I feel. A few people were around taking pics of it, but I guess to the casual layman it wouldn't look all too special (my Ferrari mad aunt who I took with me didn't know why I was taking pics of it until I explained).

Love that Jaguar E-Type in the top picture that happens to have a large, wide piece of rubbish in it! The 722 is also a really good spot!
