Don't worry. Us eccentric ones (Me, Doug, Harry) can tell that that is a SL65 by the grill.

The grille yes, although the most major distinguishing feature for me - aside from the wheels - is the little front slits in front of the wheels. Such an interesting design feature.

I no longer photograph SL65s, in a recent decision. Too common. I still love to see them, though the car has been described (by SLR owners, admittedly potentially jealous) as being 'all engine' and not the complete machine that most other 604 horsepower cars are.

Why did I spend 3 times the money for 1.15 times the performance?[/SLR Owner]

Strangely enough in a place where practically every third car is a Mercedes Benz, I have yet to see an SL65. Humph!

Don't say that - I'll be guilted into continuing to photograph them! In Atlanta I never saw them, presumably because it doesn't look awesome enough to justify the extra cash - but here in Denver where people couldn't care less about how their car is perceived, they're everywhere - perhaps DUE to its subtlety.

v8_vantage-070107.jpg

At 2am Saturday night/Sunday morning - truly - I went for a drive and was barely getting out of my neighborhood when I spotted this, a V8 Vantage. I followed him a while (from a VERY long distance - he pulled away on the highway and just kept pulling) and he drove into a horrible neighborhood - so horrible I didn't feel comfortable following in my Audi.

viper_srt10-070207.jpg

Viper SRT-10. Saw this vehicle three different times on Monday in three different counties. Odd.

997_911_gt3-070107.jpg

997 GT3. Temporary plates were out-of-state, but I couldn't catch which state. First one I've seen in Denver; third total.

Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud.

Continental GTC, California plates. These things are everywhere.

Actually, it's hard for me to make out the front bumper in the strong shadow, but you can just see the V12 badge anyway. :) On the SL500/SL600, the SL55-style bumper is an option, while the SL65 one is not.

Like this one?

I have other stuff, too:

Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16

This, an E30 M3, and a Quattro Sport would make a great, affordable collection. Shouldn't cost more than $45,000, tops. Of course, that's assuming you can find any of those for sale.

Porsche 911 Turbo

I used to wonder why I wasn't seeing any of these anywhere. Now there relatively common. It's a strangely comforting feeling. :odd: I guess it's nice to know that among all the generic car owners out there, there still people who recognize a great "everyday" car when they can afford one.

Volkswagen Fox wagon

Someone mentioned that they had some odd affection for this car, partially for it's rarity. Was it YSSMAN (the usual VW fan)?

Ford Thunderbird TurboCoupe

This is posted in response to the Monte Carlo Aerocoupe. My memory of Thuderbirds of this era included an upright rear window, not like this one. Is this similar to the Aerocoupe in it's rarity, or is it just a model revision I don't remember?

While i was walking, i saw this pretty car. There aren't a lot over here, so it was wroth it :)

Corvette Z05 [Its a Z06. Ed.]

dsc01479ap6.jpg

Thats the first time I can recall a European posting the car in here, and I have to give HUGE Kudos to you my friend!

They're around here, but you really don't see them all too often. Still the coolest Corvette ever, well, second only to my 427ci C2 Stingrays.

===

And after the Lincoln spot, the whole notion of American cars in Europe is an odd one. They must be very rare spots then.

Oh, and that Camaro that I promised:

The wheels are a bit too big, but for a g-machine, it wasn't overly done. I like it, but then again, when the first generation Camaro is one of my favorite cars, it isn't much of a surprise.

I doubt you'll find a Audi Quattro Sport (the Gr.B SWB version) for under £40k ($80k)

Considering that only 644 were sold in the US, you would probably expect more than that. He may have been thinking of the Audi 90 Quattro Coupe, which can be had for less than $6000 in most cases.

Only 200 of the 'Sport' Quattros were made in total for Group B regulations. He's probably just thinking of the 'Ur' Quattro. Didn't realise they only sold 644 in the US.

...Keep in mind as well that it was back when Audi was the ugly stepchild of Volkswagen, and could get away with selling what amounted to gussied-up Passats with leather seats, not to mention just getting beyond the whole 5000 brake issue...

IMO, it really wasn't up until a few years ago that Audi was really a household name here in the US, one that could actually be considered a decent option against BMW or Mercedes. Back in the day, Audi would be lucky, in some cases, to be picked over a Nissan, or even a Pontiac for that matter.

Assumably he didn't mean the weird short-wheelbase model, and the Quattro coupe ('84-'88 in the States) in general. He did NOT mean the 90 Quattro coupe, which no one has discussed since some Audi exec was like 'what the hell is this trash heap and why are we still selling it?' back in like 1993.

Of the three, I think the 190E 2.3-16 is the rarest, but what do I know.

Volkswagen Fox wagon

Ooops, I can't believe I missed that! Awesome spot! That appears to be a pretty well taken care of model, and that is actually the same color that my Fox sedan was.

VW fans pay stupid amounts of money for those cars in good shape. My VW crack dealer had a Fox Wagon similar to that (I think he said it was red) just before I bought my Jetta from him, and he loved the fact that there were actually people starting a bidding war over the car. If I recall correctly, he said he didn't pay much over $1000 at auction, but after fixing the few blemishes it had, he ended up selling it for over $4000.

...And just for reference, even my semi-crappy Fox (circa 1993, the last year in the US) was still worth $1200 despite its problems...

I was in Nashville and Memphis the last 9 days. Here are some spots. (Highlight: New 350Z with hood bulge and new lights) The Bentley was at Gus's Chicken (Hole in the wall kinda place, with the license plate "Braden", sports star maybe?) The motorcycle has some big V8 on it BTW

Was the license plate local? The St Louis Cardinals have a pitcher (and former first-round draft pick) named Braden Looper who grew up in Oklahoma and went to school in Kansas - Tennessee is quite close to those states and to St Louis. Wouldn't be horribly surprised if it was his, but then most famous people would never get plates with their names on it!

Today so far:

Thanks M. Yea. I was suprised to see that Bentley there. Also, I didnt know the new Z was out, and the 300z Convertible was pretty sick. I still want to know about that bike though. It had a BIG V8 on it.

I was wondering.... Did they ever get proper side glass?

Yes. Starting in 1997, the RT-10's got real windows. That black Viper looks like an old Gen I with newer wheels or something (looks like GTS wheels). You can tell it is a Gen I because the exhaust pipes are by the doors. Dodge changed that in 1994 (I think) so the exhaust would be at the rear if the car. The first Vipers had those window inserts, but didn't open. Later, they got those inserts that did slide open.

Continental GT. Florida plates but a 'Bentley Denver' frame. Hey, I don't explain 'em, I just photograph 'em.

My phone was full today, so I'm doing a bit of a batch. But it's all recent, anyway.

carspot002es4.jpg

Lotus Espirit. Older, 4-cylinder model driven by a woman. Looked to be in very nice condition.

carspot006mq8.jpg

Dodge Ram SRT-10. It's a single-cab shortbox with a canopy. Must be a fairly light truck.

carspot007om0.jpg

Austin Healy 3000, or possibly 100-6. It's an immaculate daily driver for someone who works in my area.

carspot008ik2.jpg

Porsche Cayman S, and 1941 Ford custom.

carspot009jv1.jpg

And lastly, an F-100 with a trailer.

My phone was acting up a bit and taking distorted pictures, so those were all the acceptable ones.

W00t! I get the first spot!

I kinda like it. I never got to see the front, but it's pretty much a sedan up there. But I still know I'm going to like the Accord better.

Also, Doug, whip out a little more Unsharp Mask on those pics. That's how you turn a crappy 1280 cell phone pic into that ^ 800. It sharpens, softens, contrasts, saturates, and brightens all at the same time. I have no clue how.

Not the first spot - I spotted one nearly a month ago, on June 15. I have no photo, but it was dark blue; I saw it in Marietta, Georgia.

You mean Slicks?

Grr, no! You don't have a picture. Phooey.

And I mean you, or anyone else who feels like doing it. Unsharp Mask is tits. Besides, your usually immaculate pictures could only get better, Doug. 👍

Yeah, I give you first spot credit - I'm 100% sure I saw it but my rule is always 'no picture then shut up.' Just wanted to let you know they've been around.

I'm not taking cell phone shots - Slicks is the one who did it before your post!

I'll look into unsharp mask regardless, though.

Seriously, and PB would probably agree. I've taken 5 magapixel pics, shrunk them down to a fuzzy 800x600, then slapped them in the face with Unsharp Mask and, WHAM! They look perfectly sharp, almost as if it was a vector. Go now and try one. Play with it because you can get super cool contrast and saturation effects.

Where do we find this unsharp mask?

I take photos via my RAZR quite often and throw them up on Facebook (ha ha) or Flickr quite often...
