Understood. One of my requirements is an automatic, so I'm off the S2000 and on the G35/IS (slash CTS if I could afford it!) bus.
Yeah, I can understand someone wanting an automatic instead of a standard; but for me, I miss driving a standard too much and really pretty much require my next car to have one.
I think it'd be kind of stupid/tool/loser to get the 350Z in automatic so I probably will end up without a Z... but man they're cool.
I agree with your assessment of an automatic 350Z.
I do like the Zs a lot and that is the reason they are in my top two cars to look at, along with the S2000. I do not really have much of a list outside of the S2000 and 350Z, but I have put a ton of thought into all the different cars I want to look at.
Man I know what you mean about being tired of school, and if the different really isn't that significant then maybe it's not the best idea, but it'd be a shame if you found out 20 years down the road that there's a glass ceiling for people without master's degrees... ya know? Food for thought I guess.
The salary difference is not much between a Bachelor's and Master's. Right now, there are not enough students graduating with degrees in civil engineering.
Take The University of Oklahoma (now my alma mater
), OU has a student population of about 30,000 (according to Wikipedia, 29,721). I just graduated with about 20 (I got this number from the commencement program) other students in civil engineering. That is almost 0.1% of the student population. If you include last July's and December's graduates, the number goes up to about 25 people (including myself) with civil engineering degrees. So firms are
really looking for people to hire; it is not going to change any time in the immediate future because of the continued increase in need of people with engineering degrees and the continued lack of graduating student with those degrees.
So, the short term benefit for a Master's degree is another year of cheap season football tickets
(and this is huge considering I probably will not be able to get season tickets for another 10-15 years) and a slightly higher starting salary. But I would miss out on a year of experience, salary, and would have one less year to count towards getting my PE. Having already spent almost a year at the firm I am going to work at, I am not going to gain much in practical experience by staying another year and getting my Master's, especially compared to a year working at an engineering firm.
My most recent experience with Oklahoma is this:
The speed in the middle, right below the temperature? That is an
AVERAGE. I had reset that average some time earlier.
If you are not in Oklahoma City or Tulsa, then you can do some pretty good speeds through Oklahoma. Outside of the cities, there is not a whole lot of Highway Patrol on the Interstates. (Disclaimer: Most of the time there is not much Highway Patrol on the Interstates, though occasionally there is. Just because I have said there is usually little Highway Patrol is not a reason to speed; hopefully, no one will not go now and speed excessively through the state.)
I had a similar experience (referring to your average speed) on my way to this last year OU-Tulsa game in Tulsa. I had left about four hours prior to kickoff to go to Tulsa and knowing Tulsa is about an hour and half drive from Oklahoma City, I thought I was going to have plenty of time to get there. Well I had not known about there being construction on I-44, so I had to sit and creep for around two hours to travel 20 miles because of the construction. It was completely absurd! So, I pushed the pace a bit to make up time. At one point, I thought I was having a problem with my car, but it was just dust being thrown up from the highway. Then once I got to Tulsa, I had no idea where I was going and went right on past through Tulsa. Needless to say, I got into the stadium with about a minute and a half before kickoff and then proceeded to watch OU beat Tulsa 62-21.
Finally on another note, I went out with a friend to one of the local cruise spots and saw about four S2000s, a little over a half dozen 350Zs, a couple Nismo 350Zs, and some other neat stuff. Though, I did not take any pictures of anything. My phone probably would not have done a very good job in the dark anyways.
