Great post, Cano! Oh lord, look at that Duke!!! How does that red Hormiga not topple forwards onto it's windscreen?! Love the shot of the bug with the grafitti behind it too.

I should really find something less geeky and more interesting to do in my lunchbreak...

Yet another load of "daily" cars in HK, what a feat! But I got to ask, WTF is the driver doing? His hair?
Love the NSX, looks better every time I see one. Don't know where to start, 308 GTS, amazing Porsches, minis... and all I got is this:

Absolute rarity, Toyota BJ Cruiser (from all the way back to the 1950s if it actually is the unfortunately named BJ) converted truck on massive off road tyres.
This is pure awesomeness, either that or just another rusty piece of FR crap. (They came in FR layout, this one looks like its been modified...)

Cano the Eldorado and Mustang coupe looks epic, great spot! doesn't Clint Eastwood drive a Ford Maverick?

Other side of things: New Mini with some awesome wheels and little else, but enough to catch my eye... heck, I think even the wheels are stock:

It has John Cooper Works wheels and aero kit on it, so it's sort of stock. The wheel arches are probably OEM but have been painted.

Great shots again Rue, I approve of the Cayman shot in the same vein as the Boxter one before, and the green MR2 looks great too.

mid-70s VW Bug, I love the light on this one and how the graff behind it matches the car:
fbhtydkl041.jpg

Lovely shot 👍

Dig that S2000, and the photo of the Boxter is definitely one of the best shots I've seen you take! How are you doing on the camera front?

I also like the S2000, but I think I would have gone with a black set of wheels instead of what is on it.

Great shot on the Boxster Rue! 👍

Cano have gone through this I believe with his weekly dose of carbonized oldies once (which I adore) so I don't think I'm alone here when I say that we DO try to make the best of what is interesting on the road AND keeping this thread alive for people with a broad taste. I rarely comment on most of the posts here but it doesn't mean I don't find them interesting. I believe many of us here have been introduced to a lot of wonderful cars they would otherwise never know if others felt even a little stigmatized for what they felt compelled to share. Anyway, that's my point. Peace~

Problem is, interesting differs from person to person

I find most everything that is posted here interesting in one way or the other. I just enjoy seeing the pictures of different cars.

Now, I just need to pay closer attention to the pictures and comment on them more often.

S15 Silvia - Ever heard of lowering springs?
nis_silvia_ex7883.jpg

Are there many Silvias running around in Hong Kong? They are a good looking car and I enjoy seeing pictures of them. The number of 240SXs running around in my area is really dwindling and I only occasionally see them anymore it seems.

Rue
Cayman S - Facelifted version. Recognise the shot?
por_caymans_nw9217.jpg

Was that taken in the same spot as the Boxster or just very nearly the same spot? Now, I just want to see the two pictures side by side for comparison.

Rue
Hi there dave_sz and welcome to the thread. Have you got anything interesting to show us? Sounds like you must have some great cars around the Windy City if most of our spots don't flick your switch.

I don't, and yet somehow most of the cars posted here are nothing special. I'm not saying the ones you post aren't, cause most of them are rare and interesting, but there is nothing special about a s2000 with a paint job, or a 5 series wagon, or a stock mini cooper.

Sorry but you lost me... to which S2000 with a paint job are you referring to? (VashTheStampede who owns a lovely S2000 would probably tell you that any S2000 with a paint job is kinda rare, considering most S2000 owners in the world leaves theirs stock)

And which 5 Series wagon? (for how many 5 Series do you see on the road until you see a wagon version anyway?) Besides wagons have their own appeal, being generally rarer.

Edit: Humor me, please.

Edit: If you are going to quote the first post's rules, here's the first bullet point:

Please, only list cars that are interesting in some way. We don't want to see anything run-of-the-mill listed. In the previous thread, people announced having seen a BMW 328i, or a Nissan 240SX. These sorts of cars are not interesting, unless there is something specific about the car itself that makes it unusual, like seeing a new model on/before launch day, or a particularly good custom job. Cars worth less than $20,000 US when new will struggle to qualify as "interesting".

Where does it say "special"?, it only defines what is interesting.

And to the next rule, photos buddy, or quit judging the rest of us who post cars that are mostly "nothing special"

What's good to one person might not be good to another. I wouldn't post a Challenger or a Camaro because they are a dime a dozen around here, but someone else might because they are still rare in some areas.

A lot of the regulars, Rue, Dac_Xint, Cano, NISM0_SKYLINE, myself and some other have been posting here since 2006 and there really haven't been any complaints. Most of us just want to see cars.

If you don't like what's being posted, then go out and shoot some spots yourself and post them here, we'd love to see them just as much as anything else. Complaining and not doing anything about it isn't really going to win you friends, especially since you are still fairly new here.

Glad I'm not alone :dopey:

Now we just need to wait a few months for the modified versions to come out. You know what Hong Kong people are like with all things Porsche. They just can't leave them stock.

I still think the Panamera is one of the ugliest cars on the road, although the new Accord Crosstour and BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo have possibly outdone it's ugliness.

I thought the same originally, but seeing lots on the road for me it has a certain presence and character that I can't really describe. Yes, it looks odd from a few angles but I really do like it now. It seems to lend itself to the scenery we have here too with all the big angular buildings, acres of glass and neon lights.

EDIT: Ace spot on the BJ :snort: Toyota dac_xint! Bringing a little bit of Cano's Mexico to the streets of Hong Kong.

Rue

Here's a question: What's the white rectangular sticker in the top right of each car's windscreen? Is it road tax? If so, it seems fairly randomly bunged in the window.

It's only when I looked at these two side-by-side that I went back and noticed all HK cars have them!

The red S2000 with the black bonnet and black boot lid is not a paint job. Those "black" areas are both carbon fiber.

The S2000 was not exactly a hot seller during its run of production and there are not a whole lot of S2000s running around. For reference, I probably see just as many Porsches as I do S2000s and they are a much higher end product. Owning one, I very much believe Honda would have sold many more S2000s if they had priced them less during production. Furthermore, I also believe that Honda was not looking for huge sale figures with the vehicle either; but instead, the car was a way for Honda to show off their engineering prowess and their interpretation of the classic British convertible.

Sorry but you lost me... to which S2000 with a paint job are you referring to? (VashTheStampede who owns a lovely S2000 would probably tell you that any S2000 with a paint job is kinda rare, considering most S2000 owners in the world leaves theirs stock)

He is talking about the red one with the carbon fiber hood and boot lid that Rue posted a few pages back. It is the one I commented on that would look better with black wheels.

And which 5 Series wagon? (for how many 5 Series do you see on the road until you see a wagon version anyway?) Besides wagons have their own appeal, being generally rarer.

I doubt I have seen a 5 Series wagon in person. I cannot at least recall seeing one in person. Wagons are especially rare in the United States for whatever reason and seeing them in pictures is alright with me.

por_panamera_pb8595.jpg

I have seen one Panamera on the road, but it was traveling in the opposite direction on the Interstate and so I just caught a glimpse of it. I am withholding my judgment of the vehicle until I can get a better chance to examine how it looks.

Thanks for the comments on the green Bug picture, incredibly, I was on a car at more or less speed. Came out nicely.

Well spotted! It's like a stored value card (little box) which is used to pay the tolls for the tunnels and bridges in Hong Kong. They're not compulsory, but they save you having to queue to pay with change at toll booths.

This thread is finally showing some life again. Great stuff! Can't wait til the rest of the Northern Hemisphere thaws out.

Speaking of life, I wish we have a member from Japan who would spot cars here. I remember we had one member from Japan who (almost) walked the entire R246 street circuit and took pictures a few years ago.

Thanks for the comments on the tow truck, I thought DYSAGT likes this sort of thing, took about a half dozen shots to get these two.

The weather just took an ice dump on my part of the world and apparently some snow is supposed to hit in the next couple of hours. I sure am glad the owners of the company I work for decided everyone needed a three and a half day weekend. :D

Thanks for the comments. Will be awesome when you get your 308 one day. Are you going to get a GTB or a GTS? I actually prefer the GTB as the lines are timeless, but if you live somewhere sunny the GTS is a good bet. The 308/348's are very realistic to own and run, but you must get the best one you can afford, as there are too many around that'll leave you high and dry.

Actually, I have an even more immaculate Ferrari to show you that I saw today. I mean concours condition, but the sad thing is it's a left-hooker which means it'll never be registered on HK roads.

EDIT: I'm going to need the Ferrarista of GTP to ID this one for me, as right now it looks like it could be quite a special car. Will have to wait for the photo though unless I can get to a PC with a card reader soon.

Speaking of life, I wish we have a member from Japan who would spot cars here. I remember we had one member from Japan who (almost) walked the entire R246 street circuit and took pictures a few years ago.

All the more reason for that road trip, eh!?

There is a member from Japan who works for the USAF I think. He posted in a 'Welcome to GTP' thread, and told us that he'd recently seen an MC12 on the road there. I have a feeling he also owns a S14 or RPS13 or something like that.

EDIT: For pure f*£^"+n win!

Hong Kong has always been good to me in terms of seeing special cars; McLaren F1, white F40, Ferrari F50, etc. but this just takes the cake, if it is indeed what I think it is (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). If I am right (and god I hope so) at $10976000, the most expensive car ever. Ladies and gentlemen, the Ferrari 250GT California Spyder (I hope).

Sweet, the Mitsubishi i, was it the electric version? I could never tell the difference between them and the internal combustion engine models.

Yeah, 100% electric. The only noise you could hear was a faint humming noise a bit like old electronic fuel injectors used to make.

Great spot and definitely a California Spyder 👍 (or very good and very expensive 250 based replica.)

It's got some slightly different detailing on it to the James Coburn/Chris Evans one, but it's fair to say that with Ferrari's of that era, especially the special low-volume ones, that no two were exactly the same.

Aweseom Cali spot - but I think someone actually spotted one in the US and posted it here before.

But don't worry - you still win because you have the right reaction. I seem to remember they pushed it to the side to talk about a 599 or something.

Awesome spot (although I'd cream my jeans more over the McF1).
