AOS is right. You just need more time and patience, especially the latter. It's only paid off once for me, but I know that if you keep at it, then you'll surprise even yourself with what you can achieve.

Anyway, I chose this event at the last minute, seeing as I had very little time to get on and sort it out earlier on. It's been a good while since I used either of the S2000 cars.

Because the S2000 cars are a real PITA to drive in this game. Maybe not as bad as the Peugeot 407.

I quite like the 207, should be interesting to see what I can do with it here.

I hate it when I just suck.

Oh FFS, why did I write that.:banghead:

Thanks for the encouragement, guys, but I have to be honest with you the competition wasn't the catalyst for that. The last few days had been weighing on my mind, and it was to the point I didn't feel I couldn't do anything right, including screw-up. I'm feeling better now, so maybe I'll do good this week.

First off, I'd like to say that the Abarth, while much more sensitive, can power through turns faster than the 207... I think. Screwed up a few bits, but I'm going to bed:

1:31.261 Abarth.

I think AOS needs a bit of competition from someone. :)

**EDIT** 1:30.244 Abarth Punto
**EDIT 2** 1:29.779 Peugeot 207

Bit rusty for a few laps, but soon got a good rhythm going.

Best time: 207 - 1:31.326

Punto -1:31.647

I have no idea how to go 1.6 seconds faster  Maybe 0.5 by getting everything just right, but 1.6!

My biggest "coin toss" section is through the last gate an to the left over the crossroad. There are so many little humps and bumps there that move the car inevitably off line. The only short cut I see is just before that down to the fast left where you can cut to the right of the road sign there.

As for the cars, the Punto feels heavy and slow but handles neutral. The 207 punishes for mistakes but feel really nimble, however it does take 5-6 runs to start to get the most out of it.

Are you using a Pad or Wheel pilmat?

If you are using a pad, i set all my deadzones to 0 and sensitivities as high as possible, and the "Lineraity" setting is 0 too so the car is predictable all the time, it's just a matter of being constantly fast throughout the lap and maintaining high revs and not sliding around too much unless the corner is faster by doing this.

**EDIT** New time. 1:28.829 Peugeot 207

G27 wheel. I'm too old skool for the pad :) Actually, I really like the driving in DiRT3, it's good old Codemasters work. By reading your sig, I can see why you blow away my time. 66th in the UK in GT-A and with a DS3, very nice!!

This begs the question: are sticks faster in DiRT3? Not looking for an excuse, but it would be interesting to find out. AND, as sticks have a built in driving aid (steering lock amount is auto tuned for straights and corners), are they even allowed in the EotW? LOL [runs for shelter]

I think it depends on the driver, in GT5 i can easily beat people with wheels, though once i get into faster cars it becomes harder, though if i keep focused and stay smooth it's still possible to do well, it's all about Precision and being gentle with the throttle etc. Whereas in Dirt 3, you aren't punished for slips ups as much as you would be in GT5 for example. I think that because the DS3 has no feedback to the user, those that do use it can push harder i think. I'm pretty sure that dirt 3 dosen't have aids for stick users, i have everything turned off except abs and all my steering settings are if anything, unusual for most because, even slight movements will make your car steer a lot.

I think if i had a wheel i could do similar times, obviously i'd need to get used to a wheel though. Without trying to sound big headed or arrogant, i'm actually very good in all of codemasters racing games, especially Grid, now that was a fun game. I often had people ask if i had a wheel and they were suprised because i had a smooth driving style, I think for every racing game, smoothness is one of the things that can make you faster for sure, it also helps with tyre wear, especially on GT5.

Sorry for the long winded comment. :)

Despite this being sluggish on corner exit, it seems faster them the Abarth for me.

Here's a video of the middle-last section of the track. Sorry for the bad quality.
Pilmat you said you wanted to get the second gate better? Is the way i do it different?

Only slightly better. Might have to make the Abarth work abit harder to be faster.

Thanks for the vid :)

I see I'm too neat and tidy through the long, slow, uphill right hander. You charge it very well. The next left you are smoother than me and don't use the shortcut on the right of the road sign.

Did you make the left after the last gate at the end of the video? It looks like the car is launched into the rocks... If you did make it, that section is my death in this course. If not, I just have to smooth things out, A LOT! I'm not a sideways driver, but you carry better speed keeping the car as straight as I do.

The keywords on YouTube say DS3 and PC, are you playing the PC version with the DS3? Because the quality looks pretty good to me, especially how smooth the interior looks (I drive hood cam, though).

I'd be damned if the PC version had smoother steering to accommodate for keyboard inputs, because that's exactly how people have faster records on NFS:HP on that than consoles.

But getting back to the subject, 1:31 isn't the best I've got. I know these cars get sluggish through turns (I can hear it in the engine's pitch!), but I haven't had a run without dealing with this too much.

Yea i made the corner haha you want to be as far left as possible to get the best possible speed through the corner because you can lose about .200 if you do it even slightly bad. Also, i am on the PC using the DS3, and i also use the hood cam, but i recorded the video with the cockpit cam so the steering inputs could be seen. :)

As far as i'm aware, the ps3 has the same controller setup as pc, while the pc accomadates for the keyboard, the controller and keyboard settings are seperate.

You didn't understand what I meant by that post. It had nothing to do with setups or settings. I was speaking about the nature of the physics being slightly different between PC and consoles, PC versions having less sensitive and mechanically smoothened steering than consoles. It sounds minute, but it's not at a competitive level.

Wiegert, You might wanna update the leaderboard with my latest time of a 1:28.829 Peugeot 207. Maybe you didn't notice it. :)

When you enter the dirt, do you do slide through the tight section with the banks?
Just at the beginning? Well it depends, sometimes i do sometimes i don't, just depends on the way i go in i guess, though if i can get a very small slide on then that sometimes is faster, though the difference between sliding and not sliding is probably only 0.1 of a second usually.

Can't really say much apart from the fact that this stage is a bitch to drive on. Killing 4 seconds seems virtually impossible for me to achieve even with the advice given, plus my interest in this has died a little in recent days. I just haven't been feeling to good lately either, so I might take a break from this depending on how I feeling later this week.

Adding that time to your post at the top of this page would have made it easier for me to notice, actually.

So yeah, decided not to take a break (might do so next time though) and the new event is ready. Haven't used actually Rallycross cars until now, as Group B machines were used in the last 2 Rallycross events.

Could not match any car to the Subaru; through turns, or on the straights. Couldn't get any 41s times with any other rides so I stuck with it.

Rallycross, on the same weekend as an actual rallycross round. What are the odds?

Not my thing, but I'll actually try it this time.

Just started working my way through the cars from left to right. Each is getting better by a couple of tenths :)

41.188 - WRX

Impreza WRX - 0:41.312

Second best time was in the Evo X, but even so it was still 3 tenths slower than my fastest time in the Impreza. None of the other cars seem to have the same combination of grip and power as the Impreza either, and again I'm lead to dislike the Fiesta after finding that it lurched like hell in most high-speed turns, and understeered on the slower ones, plus the RS200 wasn't any better.

I'll try again with the Impreza some other time.
