Not sure where I had to put this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-01-09-layoffs-hit-f1-and-dirt-developer-codemasters
Sad news. I sincerely wish everyone affected by the lay-offs good luck.Not sure where I had to put this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-01-09-layoffs-hit-f1-and-dirt-developer-codemasters
A new Dirt game, in production at the Southam office, is safe, but it may not release when planned. Sources told Eurogamer Codemasters planned to announce the new Dirt soon with a view to an Early Access-style release in the middle of February, but the company has yet to secure car licenses, so this is currently unlikely.
The team behind the new Dirt has been downsized, though, with a smaller group working on the game compared to last year's Grid Autosport. One source pointed out that the new Dirt team has always been relatively small, however, with under 20 staff building the game compared to the 50 or so who made Grid Autosport.
I remember reading about a 15 million dollars (or euro?) fee per year for the F1 license on NeoGAF by Amar212, not including development costs. Now, add less than stellar and declining sales for both the F1 series as well GRID (I did my part for G:AS!) to that and you end up having to layoff people.That F1 license deal isn't doing them much good to be honest.
I assume they are "betting" on a next gen F1 game pulling in far more sales, and using that to build the basic next gen graphics and physics engine which will then be utilized by the DiRT team....I remember reading about a 15 million dollars (or euro?) fee per year for the F1 license on NeoGAF by Amar212, not including development costs. Shame seeing DiRT4 development and the team behind it being affected while CM keeps releasing barely half-decent F1 games on a yearly basis.

F1 2015 has to be truly something special and I honestly can't see that happening, assuming that is their plan.I assume they are "betting" on a next gen F1 game pulling in far more sales, and using that to build the basic next gen graphics and physics engine which will then be utilized by the DiRT team....
Agreed. The DiRT team has apperently always been small but this is pretty much a kick in the nuts.Under 20 people for a AAA team doesn't bode well wither for Dirt to be honest.
Yes, I have only bought 1 F1 game, F1 2011. I thought it was good but theres no reason to buy another because theres basically 1 car with a bunch of different liveries and about 20 tracks. Not great, DIRT can have way more cars and tracks than F1 and gives it more replayablity. We NEED DIRT 4I say Codies ditch F1 for good and focus all their muscle on their best asset: DIRT.
I want Dirt 3 to be like Dirt 1, no X Games drifting around stadiums bull crap, Codie need to get official rally licence and make a game like CMR3 (The best Rally game IMO) I want official WRC championship, group b, super 2000, Paris Dakar etc. I want real rallying! Dirt 2 was fun but the atmosphere didn't suit Colin McRae, and Dirt 3 didn't have enough proper rally stages@JASON_ROCKS1998
Oh man, I second that. I really want to see Codies continue where they left off with Dirt 3. Can you just imagine how amazing it can be on current gen? The last-gen D3 still leaves me breathless after a nice engrossing session.
Same here; the only one I've bought is F1 2011. I tried over and over again to get into it, but it just had too many inconsistencies: not the best handling model, above average sound, mediocre and stuttery 30 fps graphics..
They never really addressed those issues.
IMO, one of the best licensed F1 games to come on consoles was one they made back in 97 I think, on the PS One. The one with Joe Satriani on the soundtrack and Murray Walker as the commentator. Yeah, I think it was F1 97. The sounds were darn good at that time. That game was one of the reason I seriously started getting into solo guitar music!
Wow... your post just brought incredible memories flooding back to my mind. Guitar solos + F1 nostalgia!
Ah yes, that is the stuff I really DON'T want in D4: stadium stunts, gymkhana, smashing into stuff for points...
Just... pure...thrill...of... rallying.
Official stages would be nice.
I've called that since about last October.
FIA World Rallycross*FIA World Rally???!!!
Oh boy oh boy oh booyyy....
There's nothing meaty about modern WRC cars. RX cars are the brutes of modern motorsport.Rallycross.... ohh...
Not those beautiful meaty rally cars then?

And the HUD from DiRT and classic CMR gamesSeconded! I want official satellite data for real rally stages, I also want the gritty, minimalist style back. Hell, even get Octagon Music back to make some beautiful electronica for the menus!
Rally cars are much betterRallycross.... ohh...

So manyOh, Next DiRT is going to be full of rally. They aren't going to be repeating their previous mistakes which bought the Colin McRae Rally brigade out of the woodwork. Plus we have the actual evidence, like that Vine with (Jon Tucker?) working on pacenotes on the Codies motion rig.
Okay, I think I follow you chaps now;
You mean those 600 HP gymkhana rally cars?
600hp rally cars that make today's WRC cars look wimpy.Okay, I think I follow you chaps now;

I must admit, I've always secretly hoped for an official RX game. Almost crossing my fingers for it to happen. But first, DiRT4.
Silly Speedster, of course not. Next gen is where it's at now.Aw shucks.... excited as heck. Can't wait!
Oh wait... crap, ain't coming on last gen consoles, is it?
Silly Speedster, of course not. Next gen is where it's at now.
I really hope DiRT 4 focuses on Rally, Rallycross (no buggies and trucks), Hillclimb and Raid. My last rally game I've enjoyed was Rallisport Challenge 2. Come on Codies, you can do. Please, please anything that's not like DiRT 2 & 3.
