Clutch and shifter support! Awesome (edit: Have I misread that? Was it already in? I didn't see mapping for that with my G27 last time I played). Shame there's no Escudo or Millenworks Tacoma (yet) but I'm happy with the 405 T16. Oh and there's analogue handbrake support too - looks like I'll have to upgrade mine.

I've been playing with Clutch and Shifter on my G27 this entire time...

And small? :) They are much bigger than PD for instance.

Last I heard, the team working on DIRT Rally was not much bigger than 20 people. I'm pretty sure basic math says that 20 is far less than the 100+ working on GT6 and GT7 pre-production.

Full announcement:

Here’s a brief rundown of what we’ve added in v0.4

The world famous Pikes Peak - Built from the ground up in its full fat modern tarmac state (the first time in a video game) and the mixed surface variant we all grew up loving. We’ve also included a variety of weather conditions and three iconic Hillclimb cars to add to your garage.

You’ll find that we’ve rolled Hillclimb into our Championship mode, it will crop up from time to time in our Online Events and you’ll now be able to select it in Custom Events and add it to your Leagues.

That’s not all though, we’ve also made some improvements and additions to the rest of the game including.

Some of our AI drivers have got fed up with watching you driving so well so expect some of them to start trying to rival your performances and give you more of a run for your money.

A few changes in the UI where we’ve labelled the stages in custom events 'Long' and 'Sprint', new players will see little pop up tutorials on first visit to each game mode (don’t worry they aren’t unskippable videos). We’ve also added some new messages in other areas of the game so you know what’s going on.

We’ve changed how your engineer slots unlock so that they now pop based on distance driven rather than cold, in-game cash. If you’ve already blown a load of cash on those slots... Sorry!

Custom Events will now use the fully upgraded versions of a car rather than the poor man’s version and we’ve made sure that your favourite livery will be stored for the next event.

We’ve also added in some new liveries including the Rallysport Development wrap for the Fiat 131 Abarth, the Peugeot Sport livery for the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 and the Phil Collins Rally livery for the Ford Escort Mk II. Teams like these were kind enough to give us access to their awesome machines during development and without these guys and the rest of the rally scene here in the UK, DiRT Rally wouldn’t be the game it is.

On behalf of everybody at Codemasters thank you to those awesome rally folks and a huge thank you to you for playing.

Next stop... Germany.

037 is coming...

(11:00)

- - - - -

Summary:
  • (11:00) - Lancia 037 "coming in the next pack" - so, alongside Germany and Kit Cars?
  • (14:27) - it takes about 100 days of work to put a single car into DiRT - including legal/logistical crap
  • (17:33) - hillclimb career runs separately, simultaneously to rally career - 2 runs per climb (best run wins)
  • (22:55) - a Colin McRae Rally-style 'rally school' is not promised but is seemingly on the agenda - "something we're investigating"
  • (25:00) - vehicles other than the dedicated hillclimb cars may be able to use Pikes Peak, after dry tarmac tyre physics are developed for Germany
  • (26:26) - #ThatCar is an in-joke referring to the Audi quattro...
  • (28:00) - oooooooh helicopters
  • (31:13) - improved FFB is coming soon - currently in testing
  • (33:05) - problems with fog
  • (34:40) - Panzerplatte chat
  • (50:30) - rallycross - Lydden Hill confirmed, plus select European tracks (considering Codies were spotted at Hell in Norway...) - joker laps to feature - jump-starts result in player having to take two jokers (as in real rallycross)

NOT buying the Peurgot.
Just don't.
Do not.
Buy.
That car.
🤬 awful car to *attempt* to drive.
The 205 Pikes Peak? I don't know what you mean. Okay, it does a 360 everytime you brake, but it's really good... when standing still.

I dunno, its bigger bro the 405 drives like a rocket-powered limo without a steering column. I'm not really feeling much about the lone Audi in the class, either.

Want to try it but too busy playing PCARS at the moment, and when is AC coming out with the next update?

Great year for racing sims! :dopey:

I am seriously loving this game so far, even though it is not quite a full sim yet Codemasters have done an amazing job on the realism front for a company known firmly for its arcade racers.

Only request I have is for them is to bump up the power and add the aero kit to the Audi Sport Quattro S1 so we can have the brutal E2 variant that had over 500 bhp

Does anybody know if I can use my TH8A as a handbrake?

I tried mapping my shifter as the handbrake but the game doesn't differentiate between my shifter and the paddles.

Is there a work around that anybody is aware of? Or is the problem that I have my shifter plugged into my T300 wheel?

In general for most sims, is it better to plug your shifter directly into the PC via USB instead of the wheel?

Many thanks for any tips!

I'm using 4th gear on my TH8A as handbrake (simply because it's too much effort just to switch the TH8A to sequential or analog handbrake mode when I want to H-shift in other sims) and it maps fine, but I also have it plugged in as a separate USB device.

Thanks guys, that must be the problem then! Will plug it into the PC directly when I get home, thanks again.

Oops. I just started downloading it, it's 1.6GB though - the Steam forums suggest the Germany release was an accident so they've pushed a smaller update instead - so maybe it's ok...

How does this game play with a controller? I don't own a wheel (haven't got the space for one) and really fancy giving it a go.

I'm using an Xbox One controller and think it plays nicely, it's quite difficult at first but you soon get used to it. I'd certainly recommend the game to anyone interested in rally.
