DiRT Rally Thread

First few hours done and ive got to say im very impressed. Theyve got the physics and actual feel of a rally car on gravel, ice etc. spot on....i love that its a hard challenge straight away, with one mistake and youve ruined the stage. Will give me a great sense of acheivement when i have a clean run!

The handling isnt as difficult as i thought it would be which is a good thing, its very playable but obviouly will take ages to master - taking hairpins with the hanbrake is an artform in its self!

Graphics are fantastic, smooth and hardly any pop-up,plus the landscape around you is really well detailed - looking at the overhead camera in Wales you can previous sections of tracks youve already been on in the distance and its just really good attention to detail. As ever CM really excel when it comes to lighting...the snow in Monte Carlo looks very realistic.

The wales rally is a magnificent setting, this could be in many parts of the UK,going through forests, fields,up on the hills next to the windfarm...very realistic looking.

And finally the sound is really well done,co-driver sounds good and the all the grit and stones under the car is very life like....the mini sounds just like youd expect a 1960s tinny rally car would!

Just for the record: The PC v1.1 patch doesn't feel noticeably different from before in driving (FFB/physics seem unchanged) and the graphics at Ultra settings looks the same as before with frame rates not noticeably changed (I'm running a GTX970 at 1080p and I can have every setting on absolute maximum and still get minimum 90fps).

What I do notice is:
- Track load times are a lot faster (my install was already on SSD but despite that load times are clearly shorter)
- Menus are more polished than before
- Full dirt Pikes Peak is glorious. So much nicer than the mixed one we had before, especially since DR doesn't actually have any of the authentic cars from the mixed layout era. The 3 dirt-era Pikes Peak cars in game fit the full dirt layout perfectly, and much fun is to be had.
<if only they would let us use other cars up Pikes Peak... sadly Codies stance is "it doesn't make sense to run unrealistic combinations so we won't offer it", although I suspect it's because the in-game physics hacks to get their EGO engine doing hillclimb are too different from rally>

Looking forward to testing the S1600 rallycross cars when I next have a chance.

@skazz Have they fixed the gear change delay on the old Hill Climb cars? I've barely touched the Hill Climb stuff in this game because the cars were so awful to drive without using a clutch. If not hopefully the new T16 is more fun....

I agree about using other cars on Pikes Peak, the Group B cars would be good fun.

Wow! Other here that get the game this afternoon (legend edition with steelbox)..

The blueray of Mcrae is really nice!

And the game... Just wow! I'm driving with the Dualschock4 till i finished making my own rig and can play it with my wheel. But the first impression on pad are very good, the controls are really good implanted. The physics are nice, you really feel the weight of the car and difference between the different surfaces..

The graphics, well, i really like them, full of details, and the best is the rocksolid 60Fps!
It was really time to get a good rally game again.. And yes.. It's not easy at all,a single mistake can really screw up your run! Loving it!!

Is the Legends edition the complete game? I have no money and will have to delay some car parts but you guys sold me on this game...... so yeah 🤬 you

Yes,its the complete game, and codemaster said that they aren't thinking about paid DLC expansions..
So if something new comes to the game it will be in the updates from the game.. Just like they did till now on the PC versions..

So....go and buy it! And then enjoy this game!

Two things Id like to know before buying this...
1) What are the PS4 audio options (selectable/changeable)
2) T500RS how good is it with this wheel

Thanks buddy

I have had this on PC since ea started but I'm thinking about also getting this on ps4. Help support codemaster and rally on console. I race with the t300 and it's great, (on PC). Hope it's the same on ps4

I'm definitely going to have to practice. This is the first dedicated rally I've owned (GT being my only virtual rally experience) and it's quite an adjustment. So, far I can't drive anything beyond the 60s or I will destroy the car within a couple of minutes, causing what would be instant death to my driver and co-driver.

I've been playing this game since release, graphics are great physics are great at the moment I'm not blown away with it tho. I just can't seem to dial in my T500 to give me the the feel of what's going on, I've tried the Thrustmaster recommendation with soft lock on and turning off soft lock using 50% saturation to give me 540*, feedback still feels poor.
I've just been using custom stages with the mini and the alpine to try it, the mini feels half decent but the alpine is just floaty and almost like I don't have feedback at all.
Anyone got decent set up for the T500 because I'm dying to get dialed in in a get going with this game.
I'm using all assist off and sequential gears.

I love the Alpine. But I'm playing on a controller so that's not necessarily a reasonable comparison.
Going to try to my reviled T100 tomorrow I think, though I'm sure it will go right back into the closet after an hour or two. Damn I miss my G25.

I'm in the same situation after trying all settings on T300 and not getting the feedback off the wheel or from the road, feels floaty(ish) and the FFB seems to be 'Too near the centre of the wheel' with hardly any vibration if that makes sense it doesn't follow the full rotation, I will give it another go later tonight but I am also preferring the DS4 for a quick go.

My only slight issue on the DS4 is there is little, if any vibration coming through at all even on rally cross when the car is jumping up/down on gravel with all the sliders pretty much on 150% and I checked settings on console and vibration is on full and I am not biting on the dirt or feeling the tarmac differences when I enter it as much as I would like or imagine the game to be, I get more on DC round a tarmac track? Is anyone getting full vibration through the controllers? Otherwise I really love the game...👍:P

Still waiting for Friday ... :irked:

Yeah, I'm using emoticons - that's how annoyed I am.

Ended up cancelling my pre-order so I could get it early on digital. Codemasters must've screwed up somewhere for ANZ to get physical several days after digital.

OK, I want this game so badly... And you guys aren't helping with you all singing praises of this game. Thing is, I'm not broke in the slightest, I'm just saving up money for the Napoli Comicon. Hopefully I can find the Legend Edition there...

You are testing with the floatiest cars.... Especially the Alpine is very light (all the weight of the car is at the rear, including the engine). Try custom event in a modern WRC car as a better indicator.

I haven't run DR on my T500 since Early Access, but it felt very similar to my T300. I just needed to turn down the FFB overall by 5% due to stronger forces on the T500. Now I'm not going to recommend PS4 settings because apparently there are differences between PC and PS4, but it *should* be possible to follow T300 recommendations and simply lower overall FFB a little.

What you could try is removing damping completely. On the PC I have that set to zero to ensure that the wheel resistance is low to aid spinning the wheel around like a crazy person.

P.S. 50% saturation could be 540 or 450 degrees. Depends on whether 100% is 1080 or 900. Have you confirmed it's a real 540 you are getting?

The only disappointing thing so far is there doesnt seem to be much FFB through the DS4 even over 100% on everything? Feels quite weak...

Managed to get an hour or so in last night and have only really tried the Mini out in rally mode, however I am loving it so far, it looks stunning and handles very well (actually finding it less demanding than SLR). Only took until the second event in career before I managed a clean stage with no off road trips.

Seat of your Pants feedback is quite low (which for me is not a big problem) however I've found that the feedback from the tyre is excellent, with some of the best self aligning torque feedback I've come across. On tarmac in particular you really can feel when the grip is going from the front end.

The MINI is a fantastic starting car. I just went from it to the Stratos which was...interesting to say the least.

No, it seems that that was the release date. I don't know why we are getting it three days late. But it doesn't matter - my pre-order came in, and I was free to pick it up. It's installing as we speak.

But I won't be getting DiRTy just yet - I still have to finish the Cold Dark Awakening DLC for Rise of the Tomb Raider.

I'm going to wait I think. Way too many reports that on the PS4 version, the FFB on the T300 is virtually non-existent, even with the TM recommended settings.

I tried, just 5 minutes yesterday without even calibrating, and i had the FBB (i have t300 GTE, ps4).. i mean it's like F1 2015, the usual codemaster FFB. Non existent is the usual over-reaction of the internet. I hope i will be able to play and test today. the only thing i noticed is that with the alpine 110 is very very light on the front-end.

Even going to the Fulvia from the Mini - it seems a much more powerful car hehe! Think il stick to the Mini for the time being to get a feel for the tracks.
