DiRT Rally Thread

I have a problem with the DIRT game, I play on ps4 and have a wheel FANATEC CSW v2 , all normal until the race start, the race begins everything works but the car does not leave the starting line. I can see the revs to rise, brakes ok , gearbox work, everything works, but the car does not leave the starting line.:confused::confused:

Any tips? or someone had the same problem? thanks for any help

Just to confirm, I know this forum is heavily weighted to PS4 users for obvious reasons "GTplanet" BUT as an xbox one player of this game with a TX wheel the forces are stupidly strong, so asuming its an issue with PS4 only this FFB weakness? i am having to turn down rather than turn up, same for PCars TX and xbox apparently kicks out higher forces...
Not saying TX wheel is anything thing other than an off the shelf 'budget' wheel, bui as far as sitting at home in my underpants PRETENDING to be a rally driver without having to to leave the house and get my car dirty... its ACE!!

And regards 'canned effects' everything is canned which ever way you look at it as we are not really driving a real rally car on a real surface... its all smoke and mirrors and Dirt does it VERY well indeed on all but maybe the Monte carlo stages IMO.

Seems to me one of two options:
1. Did you set the game so that you have to hold and release the handbrake to start?
2. It could be that your pedal axes are reversed, so you have full brake applied and the car won't go, or the clutch depressed? Have you tried the advanced controller screen to confirm that the axes are behaving?

That and I read that they were effectively big bombs waiting to explode, what with the driver sitting on the fuel tank. Or was that just one of the Group B cars? Anyway, scary machines whichever way you look at them.
If I recall correctly, it was Henri Toivonen's Lancia Delta S4 that 'exploded' after crashing in Corsica 1986.

I don't even understand that if im being honest but thanks! Think I'd need to see a picture. I like to use paddles for manual gears on rally games or the sequential stick at least. The manual stick gears are too fiddly to change fast for me!

just rig something up like this and assign 4th gear to your handbrake

Another rally landmark: Walters' Arena.

Sweet Lamb is also the name of a stage in Wales. I'm pretty sure that once upon a time, parts of it were run as Rhoddna, where Colin McRae infamously did a double pike and backflip in a Focus; the large piles of logs in the first half of Sweet Lamb and Pant Mawr look like that section of Rhoddna.

That is brilliant.. Nice one!!

Amazing news, Evolution studios join codemasters :

Evolution studio made some of the greatest rally games back on the ps2, can't wait to see them work with codies.

Was just reading about this. Best news all year. Brilliant Sims & Arcade racers all sharing the best tech & years of experience. I used to love Evolutions old WRC games.

They really deserve & need the license back after what they've achieved between the driving aspects of DIRT rally & the graphics of Driveclub.

Cannot wait to see what they come up with!!

Getting my first place for the first time yesterday in Sweden and then get another first place immediately after (now i'm in Finland and I'm second overall). So much satisfaction to getting better, try to push to the limit a little more every stage, every turn.

This game is AMAZING, too bad I finished 4th the Open championship and i had to restart again (not passed). Now it's a totally different story

I'm not the smart guy, we both have TheElbows to thank :)

What's the advantage of doing this over just plugging the shifter into the ps4 so it can be used properly as handbrake whilst in sequential mode? I literally only just learned that was possible!

Also what is that he using to stop it from going past the centre point? Cheers again!

I'm getting towards the end of the first championship in the mini lying in 4th overall and I won't be that bothered if i have to do it all again. Its utterly awesome, i can't believe the moments its given me already, its just brilliant, loads of cars I've yet to try and frankly i could just have Finland and the E30 and i'd be playing it for a long time... I do hate Monte Carlo though..
As an aside i'm noticing a strange tension on a few forums and its creeping into this thread of suddenly PC players being critical now its suddenly a console game also... now its everyone's game and not just theirs i'm sensing a toys out the pram...
Fact is of all the criticisms of developers i have and there's many, I understand why they want to release on consoles and understand why that is so important....
Anyway, love this game.

It gets easier once you figure out how to drive on icy tarmac. It's all second gear - though you might be able to get away with third in the Mini - and you have to keep the revs up and the steering inputs to a minimum.

I am glad it is on the consoles, and it isnt like Codemasters have watered it down from what I have had access to for the past year.

Well, it's official: I hate Lydden Hill. It's a terrible circuit; for one, the AI are ridiculously easy to catch in the left-hander after the joker rejoins and in the hairpin. But more importantly, the joker is stupidly hard - I can't do it without slowing to a pedestrian pace.

The picture is of my setup and I just used a fat rubber threaded through the plate, also the red band does not have that pressure on it until you pull back on it. I'm on Xbox and this is the only choice I have, if I were you I would try the
the other option first.

The second time you'll do stages in different order (started in Greece first, now i'm starting in Sweden) and feels like ages are passed (in fact, barely a week).
The sense of improvement is outstanding and I totally agree, do it all again it's not a problem at all.

GTP won't go that way, don't worry.

But in between the new console player experiences there are still PC patch v1.1 changes we are able to discuss (remember that the first 40+ pages of this thread were purely PC). If you read back into this thread you will see that we discussed the limitations of the physics a few times, and it's perfectly legitimate to continue discussing whether v1.1 has improved the weaker areas.

I'm glad that the feedback from console owners is very positive. I'm a long-term Codemasters fan and I'm really hoping that DR succeeds well on console, if only so they get approval for DRv1 DLC and starting work on an improved game engine for DRv2.

Yes, i read somewhere else of PC players saying patch 1.1. watered it all down and the graphics reduced. Sounds like sour grapes from a few hardcore console haters... S.O.D. 'em.

I totally agree, it's not the kill but the thrill of the chase.

Once I got my wheel calibrated right and stopped treating it like a arcade racer the enjoyment is just over whelming.
This is by far the best racing/driving game I have ever played on console.

Cheers mate all good managed to get everything working OK. Just had to get the spare unused usb connector that was thankfully still in the shifter box. The game feels great now just have to settle on the settings.

Well done on your workaround though!!

What settings did you settle on for ps4 just the thrustmaster issued ones or anything different? How sensitive do have it? Think I've got mine at 60%.

Oh boy. I finished first in the Professional Championship with the Beemer and proceeded to Elite difficulty. I decided to go with one of my all time favorite rally car, the Focus '01. This car is absolutely neutered in its current state without any upgrades. Two stages into Finland and I'm already 42 seconds behind. I'm sooooo screwed.

I feel like I'm gambling whenever I choose a new car and begin my path to upgrade them. It sort of reminds of the system implemented in Enthusia's EL mode when I think about it. And frankly, I don't mind it at all - considering the fact that it's also one of my favorite games ever.

T300 ps4, force feedback is very good. Best ffb from Codemasters ever. Off course all the moaning is just overaction from the so called hardcore gamers.. I not even sure they have the game...

I have the game.. but on the ps4 with a T300 driving the alpine on the tarmac and concrete the FFB is lacking. The rest of the game, gravel, snow, dirt, etc.. the FFB feels great. I am not the type that likes hulk strength feedback either. There are people who have played the game on PC, Xbone, and PS4 with Thrustmaster T300 vs Tx and have commented that the PS4 FFB is lighter. That is separate from the reviews that say dirt rally's main weak point is FFB on Tarmac like surfaces and that comes from users on all systems.

Don't get me wrong the game is awesome and I am loving it. I just wasn't as happy driving the Alpine on tarmac vs gravel and dirt is all. - I also am not hardcore.. I'm slow and you will never find me high up in the leader boards.
