DiRT Rally Thread

For me, as long as I don't get any time penalties I'll be able to get in the top 3 at the very least.

I'm the same. If I don't get a time penalty for falling off the stage, I usually finish in the top 3. Sweden is the real killer, still spending too much time going around in circles after hitting snow banks!!

Absolutely loving this game though. I am yet to find any real flaws. About to finish 3rd in clubman and move up to Professional (rally). Stage wins are hard to come by, but a clean fast stage is reward in itself regardless of the finishing position!

Moreso than any other rally, momentum is the key to success in Sweden. Keep your speed up to around 90km/h as often as you can, and 110km/h in high-powered cars.

First rally on Elite championship at Monte Carlo, and i came a surprising 3rd overall. Even though the Quattro is quite a big car,it got around the tight corners really well, and it takes hairpins so much better than the Renault 5. It bodes well for the rest of the championship.

The below video was my ONLY green sector of the whole rally - you can see me almost lose it on 2 wheels right before the checkpoint hehe!

I'm really enjoying this game. It recalls the time I spent playing Colin McRae Rally on Playstation nearly two decades ago.

The +70 stages I read about before buying the game are less than a half truth though. I get that recycled layouts is common practice but only two unique routes per location isn't much. It's all good fun, so I'll survive until they add more stages in DLC or a future game and don't scrap what they already have.

I'm happy enough with reversed full stages, but chopping up one long stage into 2-3 shorter stages is a bit disappointing. Not Codemasters' fault though, with each new generation of consoles the graphic improvements makes it harder and harder to create long unique stages. Personally I'd be happy with RBR level of graphics if it means we can get many more stages, but people are attracted to pretty graphics so yeah...

That is the one advantage SLR Evo has, the greater number of stages across more rallies with less repetition.

Still the stages are so well designed in both (and a lot better looking in one) that I can cut them some slack.

I'm surprised they didn't aim for just a little more variety, even when taking your good point into account. For example, Monte Carlo is basically just the mighty Col de Turini.

In my opinion they should have prioritized the conventional rally discipline over rallycross. The latter barely excites me and the additional cars on screen cars are currently causing noticeable screen tearing and FPS drops on consoles.

Yes, Codemasters nailed some great roads here. The last rally game I played was WRC 4 and its stages had a tendency to feel a little bland. I guess that was a price to pay for having all the official locations in most of their geographical glory.

Sorry if its been asked before.

Whats the deal with the standings/leaderboards for online events?

The global standings will finally show up if I scroll down a bit, and I can't see Friends Rankings at all. Probably a known bug?

question, im currently in the 'preview events' menu since the game is still installing, is there any way to have it install faster?

It's considerably better than Dirt 3, where "variety" amounted to adding two extra corners to a stage and calling it something new.

I have noticed that in most cases, the two longest stages could be merged together to form one big epic stage, though. Germany and Greece might be a little tricky, though.

i would love dlc for a 206, 2003 facelift Subaru, 1998 Subaru and a Makkinen evo. Hopefully it won't be long before dlc is announced because let's face it, we'd all buy it.

Each of the 6 locations has two long stages, each of which can be run in both directions. The other 8 stages per rally are the two halves of the long stage, again each in both directions.

In reality this means we have ~25km of unique road per location.

SLRE has around 30-40km of unique road per location, but does have 8 locations. However the stages themselves are often rather blander so you can run them at 80% concentration without issues. DR stages are all full-on 100% concentration or you crash.

Of course, I'm a firm believer in just getting both games and enjoying the good parts of each of them. :)

Locations are quite limited yes. Hoping for some DLC with a couple more locations, wouldn't mind a few more cars but not too fussed, sardinia, portugal or spain would squeeze in nicely as added locations.

SLRE was a day one purchase for me until Dirt Rally was announced, i then decided the wait for DR and i am more than happy with my choice after playing the demo, will still pick up SLRE when i finally get bored of DR but that doesn't look like its happening for a while :)

I'm hitting the end game now, got one more Championship to complete and a few stray Achievements to wrap up.

Thw thing I've enjoyed most about this game is that it requires 100% concentration at all times. In other racing games it's easy to go "autopilot" and drive off of muscle memory (my mind has wandered while winning Forza races for example), but doing so here results in an urgent meeting with Mr. Tree and his friends.

So i just won the Open championship ( By 1 point!) and im deciding which car class to go for the Clubman one since i have 180,000$ now. Any suggestions on which to pick and which car?

I would just like to say that this is an amazing high quality game. It didn't convince me at first as I found it bland and flat.
But after trying it for myself I just felt in love with it! Unlike project cars I didn't had to spend hours tinkering with the options just to make it playable. All it took was to try a few different combinations with the assist options and before I knew it I was throwing that Mini around the corners like a pro!

I love the length and technicality of the stages, but am disappointed with the small number of stages/countries. Lots of cars covering the ages, but lacks what I think its the iconic car for certain eras. Like, where's the Ford RS200? You have a Lancia Delta and Subaru Impreza, but no Toyota Celica or Mitsubishi EVO? And there should have been MORE McRae cars. His Ford Escort and Subaru Impreza are known by many, but unfortunately I don't relate to these. I saw him with Ford. Even though they did include the RS test livery, I wish they would have pushed a bit harder with the Martini livery. And yes, I am aware of alcohol advertisement in games.

But again, the game is very clear on quality over quantity. The little it does, it does so well!

My only major complaint with the game right now would be the co-driver. He's way too quite and most of my mistakes have been caused because I didn't hear his notes.

Anyway, I've already typed too much. The game is great, and I have an enormous respect for the team hence why I bought the Legend Edition plus the Huge Crate containing some goodies from the game. If you'd like to see a very an amateur unboxing video of it check the video thread. Have a good rally everyone!

The RS200 is in Group B 4WD class.
There is one Evo in game, in the R4 class.
Toyota not there is clearly a licensing problem they had. Unfortunate but just how it is.

Co-driver volume can be adjusted (at least on PC) relative to other sounds.

I agree with Co pilot. I've turned engine volume down to 80 and still having problems hearing him every time. It might be because I'm focusing too hard on the road in front of me...

I have now got to the stage where i recognise most corners, which takes the fun out of rallying. Two more countries and another unique couple of stages for the existing countries would be perfect. i know that's a lot of work for the devs but it would be good if there was at least an announcement of DLC soon. At least we would know that it is then worth sticking with the game.

Project Cars has lasted me nearly a year, i loved that game and the %100 AI was perfect for me but after Dirt i can't go back, hence why the DLC is so important! at least for me.
