DiRT Rally Thread

MXH
The game performs excellently on consoles and is perfectly playable with the controller. I've only encountered noticeable screen-tearing and framerate drops once or twice while playing (pretty much daily) since launch (not counting rallycross replays).
I must confess I see screen tear pretty much daily, (frame rate drops a little less) but I do tend to pick up on them more than most.

Doesn't change how I feel about it as a title one bit.

I started of with the Alpine and at the moment first stage was loaded in Greece and I heard that sound  I am pretty impressed

See everyone is commenting on how amazing the sound is, and if you ask me that's a huge part of why this game is so intense and fun!

If only PD paid any attention to their customer base ;)

The sound (I only heard the Alpine) is amazing. They way it reacts to your input is great. Tires searching traction and when you floor it pops into your ears like something from heaven. You just what to keep playing because of how the sounds are done. Only negative part. I have a French woman as co-driver and she it is not the best voice suited for giving pacenotes. She talks clearly but I just imagine her sitting beside me with her beautycase ;) Watch the road honey...6 right ... don't cut...puts on lipstick...ahhhhh... hairpin after tree...

Didn't PD employ a new specialist sound designer/engineer after asking the community, precisely for that reason?

Back to the topic though - I get daily pop-in, though it's not drastic. I think it's likely a result of the game engine, which let's face it, they've been using for some while now. I can't see the Evolution crew wanting to work with that engine, so hopefully CM will be investing in some new game engine software for their own use too.

I think PD hired the man who used to work on the sounds for Forza. Haven't noticed any popup as of yet. To busy trying to keep the car on the road and not wreck it :scared:

They did indeed.

Like I said, the pop-in is only minor, not like say with War Thunder where an entire forest will load five seconds after the terrain

Played for an hour in the 60ties championship. Have done Greece, Monaco, Germany and 2 stages in Wales. It's simply the best rally expérience I ever had in a game.
Everything works as expected, stages are beautiful, cars handle great, sound is first class and it's challenging. Replays could be improved and I miss the photomode but oh boy what am I getting spoiled

Codemasters has always been a relatively small studio by industry standards. They've stuck with the EGO Engine simply because they haven't been in a position to invest in large-scale replacement projects. Hiring the Evolution staff is a positive sign because it suggests that they do want to expand. By all accounts, Dirt Rally was something of a small, experimental project developed on a smaller budget than other games, but the extremely positive reception will probably influence the future direction they take. Until now, they have really tried to find the point where simulator and arcade racer intersect, but Dirt Rally tipped the scales in favour of a simulator without abandoning the pick-up-and-play qualities of an arcade racer.

The only outstanding question is whether total sales of DiRT Rally will justify DLC or a comparable sequel.

I'd hope so. Last time I checked SteamSpy, there were around 296K owners of the game, if I recall correctly. And according to VGChartzzz*, it has sold around 175K copies at retail in the first week on the consoles, digital sales not counting. At this point, I'd assume it has sold above 500K in total.

Also worth noting is that CM posted profit for the first time in five years.

*reliabilty not guaranteed

Is anyone else getting bad framerate drops or sudden freezes in gameplay in offline championship mode? Its only been happening in the last week or so..

no, mines ok @Magdelayna

ps, still love this game sooooo much...the 60 frames per second makes the difference, love it..

imagine if dirt had all the cars and locations as Sebastian loeb..and able to use the rally cars on rally cross..be heaven if that happened..

still superb as it is tho..:)

Yeah, SLRE is superior to DiRT Rally in so many ways, especially content. It's such a shame that SLRE graphics suck so bad. SLRE four-day rally on Realistic difficulty I can tell you is even more intense than DR. Then when you watch the replay you're like "OMG I was playing WRC on the PS1..."

San Remo is very well done on SLRE. It's a shame the other locations are so bland and boring scenery-wise. The 60fps and gorgeous locations are really what makes DR stand out.

I'm loving this game. :D

I've not played much yet, I'm still working my way through my first 60's rally in the Mini (obviously) and the stages are really nice. Germany is really great, plenty of "don't cut" corners to contend with.

I've done some Rallycross online too, mostly the 1600 class cars, I purchased the Peugeot 207(?) and Renault Clio.

Where is the best place to look for tuning info specifically for Rallycross events? I know that I can download tunes via Steam Workshop, but are they actually any good?

Does *anyone* have any idea on how to get the Monster Energy Supercharged trophy? Even when I'm first into a corner (which is nye on impossible) I still don't get the trophy.

Have you tried doing it in the Final of a FIA WRX Championship? That's how I got it, at Höljes.

It has to be the final in the World RX championship. You have to be the first one past the rhino sign. The best place to do it is Hell - qualify on the front row, and take the joker on the first lap, you should get it even if the AI get the jump on you.

Ahhh ok, knew it was a final but did wonder where was gonna be best to do it, thanks guys
Technically, you can do it at any of the three circuits. But it's only really possible if you use a steering wheel; you can't really control the launch with a controller.

I've mentioned it before, but as it stands now the likelihood looks good. The designers came out and stated categorically that Dirt Rally was a budget marketing research project. They stated they've been blown away by the response it has received (I'd assume this means sales are decent too). They've already stated that the second game will get a full budget and development.

Add to this the news that Codemasters bought out that other studio which used to do rally games and it's possible they're setting up to bring us the best rally game we're likely to see in a couple of years. Surely this could all change, but the current hype/news etc. is that a full budget sequel is in the works.

Sadly in the same interview they did state that it's unlikely Dirt Rally will receive tons of updates/DLC as they're going to go full-on into the sequel work pretty soon.

So long as they give us some DLC and fix certain things with a patch or two I'll be happy.

If we could just have 1 more country for Rally (New Zealand, Mexico, Argentina...something) I'd be extremely happy.

For me I think it needs like a pure mud rally, i remember one of the old Colin McRae games had a sort of rain forest rally maybe in China or somewhere, pure mud and rain and rice fields I think... i really can't remember , but rally Wales isn't pure mud...i'd like pure mud..

DiRT 2 had China and Malaysia. But perhaps you're thinking about Indonesia from CMR1?

Possibly, i remember it being thick mud, caked the car, obviously if i went back to it it would look rubbish, but in my head at the time i loved it. Like i say rally wales and finland have rain and mud but its not really thick sloppy mud.
