DiRT Rally Thread

How many KM is the longest stage?
I don't think the distance is actually listed anywhere, but the longest one I've driven was 7~ min long in a group b car, so they're pretty good sized. Shortest are around 3 minutes. I bet there's longer stages that I haven't driven though.

Is anyone playing this on a controller? I enjoyed all the 'dudebro' Dirt games on pad and wheel but no longer own a wheel, I've always wanted the game to be more rally focused but being without a wheel my worry is it doesn't play well on the pad as many PC sim's don't or are nearly impossible.

Thoughts?

Anyone playing with a controller? How is it with one?

Since my G27 is being "serviced" I've been playing Dirt Rally with a 360 controller, it works quite well but I've found you need to be careful to not steer too much because then you understeer quite badly because, of course, the tyres just start scrubbing across the direction you're moving. It's been a long time since I played a racing game with a controller but I can't remember many other racing games that aren't sims that have that kind of behaviour.

7~ min long

Thanks for the info.

That short of a length is not worth my time though. That makes this a 100% arcade game, it does not matter what the physics or damage is like. THIS is what is wrong with the Dirt series.

Really? The physics, looks and how good the game actually is is not what DiRT is about it's about how long the rally stages are?

Does it help that the three minute stages feel like a fifteen minute battle through hell?

Sound design in this game is great.

Now we just need the turbo chirping! :D

The original RBR stages were pretty much exactly the same length as these ones: 3-8 minutes.
And yet nobody complained about those. I think we've got some double standards going on (just generally speaking) since this isn't Richard Burns Rally.

For the record, I find RBR baby easy modo (insano damage model aside) rally game in comparison to this. Yes, even on gamepad.

Downloaded the game this morning, been tinkering for last few hours and now just starting to appreciate the game! But as a Assetto Corsa fan, what on earth is going on with the FFB? It's awful, no road feel etc, etc. Such a shame as it spoils the experience for what appears to be a great start for the best Rally Sim ever.

Do not waste more time and do the following:

It will fix it.

It's really terrifying at night when your lights break...

Anyway of doing RF/GTR2 style scenery clipping? The draw distance is killing my fps.

Holy crap that is dark! Preserving your headlights may be more important than anything in night stages.
It is. I rolled the car on that run, but the thing that broke the headlights was a destructible bush.

Still got fiftth in the clubman difficulty at least.

Probably around 100 mp/h with lights, didn't risk going over 50/60 without. Stratos is a bit of a lively car, but I like it a lot better than the Escort. :P
50 MPH, in the blackness of night, in a Lancia Stratos, on a tight road with no headlights. I could not do that even if my life depended on it.

Holy crap, another reminder as to why I'm crap at racing games.
Sorry!

I regularly goof up on the trails. It's just a preference for a little bit more immersion. :) In the open cups, I started around seventh, kept practicing, and eventually got into the top 3 half-regularly, then got the Stratos. :D Started the process over again, then went back to the Mini, only then got my first overall #1 finish. :) I've been "promoted" to the Clubman cup series now (no idea how), and I'm back to finishing down in the middle. :P

JvM
Definitely not for me. Sure it add some feel closer to center and adds more vibrations. But doesnt fix the real issue which is during oversteer moments.
Yeah, the wheel doesn't go light when the rear loses grip.
