DiRT Rally Thread

No idea about DLC but something sizable has happened at Codemasters.

*Like, a week ago. lol

Three possibilities that I can see from that.

  1. DLC is on the way
  2. DiRT 2 gets announced
  3. DiRT gets a PS4 Pro patch
My money would be on 1 and/or 3, as I think its too early for 2.

How about a serious expansion? Could that even be possible? Or, maybe they have managed to licence Dakar?

I think it's too late for DLC now, at least for the console release.

DiRT Rally 1 was probably ~2 year total development, one year as a skunkworks proof of concept and then nearly a year in Early Access adding content. Codies are putting out yearly F1 games, so they can do faster cadence releases if they have to.

I think DR2 announcement for late 2016 or early 2017 would be possible. Maybe as early access PC followed by later console release again (I'd be fine with that myself).

I only got this recently and whilst rallycross made me feel like being sick, the stage driving (especially gravel) is a ton of fun. I took out a 131 on a welsh stage in the rain and it was great.

Love that the stages are properly narrow and punishing if you make a mistake!

Just bought Dirt on Ps4 a couple of days ago. I have missed this game for so many years! It totally has the colin mcrea vibe from the first games! I played the series since the first one and enjoyed 2.0 the most.

The sense of speed and fear when blasting trough the trees at finland.... No other game than the Mc Rea series have ever gotten close. I love the fact that the subbie is in the game as well. Rally Cross is awesome as well especially with some hard AI.

Graphically this game is amazing. Night at wales...... The most beautifull monaco stages I've ever seen.... All at 60fps....

And the sound, let's just say I have my stereo cranked up as loud as I could.

Downsides are: not a lot of stages. I would love to see australia in the list of countries. And just for nostalgia I would love Nicky Christ as a co-driver.

9/10

I thought Codies came out a while ago and actively said there would be no more DLC...that the test game was simply judging interest in a full attempt on the next Rally game (which, luckily, has been great!). I think they're putting their heads down and charging full bore into a making a huge, legit rally game to follow on the success of Dirt Rally.

I wish they got the WRC license. A fully licensed game with the physics, sounds an graphics from DR would be glorious.

They would have to tone down difficulty to meet the broad market expectations....

It took a while but I finally got around to finishing off the last little bits to complete the game:

You get forced to release a title every year and are limited to current WRC cars.

Has that changed recently? Many of the licenced WRC titles up until Milestone's WRC 4 featured various classic rally cars alongside the contemporary WRC cars.

At any rate, Codemasters have spent the last two decades proving time and time again that you don't need an official licence to make an excellent rally game. There's not much they could gain from the WRC licence.

I think it done to the annual turnaround as much as anything, and with the licence they would be forced to focus on WRC, WRC2 and JWRC cars.

However I quite agree they don't need it and nor do Milestone.

I just got the game and WOW... it blew my socks off the moment I hit the dirt road.

Exceptional physics - clearly shows the developer's hard work and dedication. Excellent sound design as always, just like the previous Dirt games, although I feel it's a bit quiet. I have to crank the volume up by almost 50% (compared to say, Forza) and lower the co-driver's speech volume to compensate.

Changing the EQ doesn't make a difference (Flat, TV, Headphones), but when I change Dynamic Range to "low", the overall game volume increases by a good 30-40% I'd say. I remember the same being the case with Grid Autosport.

I hope the Codies guy who frequents these forums can share comments. :gtpflag:

A lot of the stages are pretty accurate re-creations of existing WRC stages. The Finland stages are Ouninpohja, and Germany is the Arena Panzerplatte. Wales is a mix of Sweet Lamb and Hafren (the route tends to cgange from year to year), and I'm pretty sure that Monte Carlo is the Col de Turini. I haven't figured out which stages Sweden and Greece recreate.

I think there are parts of the stages that are similar to the real life counterparts. Ouninpohja I think it just has the Yellow house jump. But looks quite different heading to and heading away from it.

I was watching coverage of Rally Finland this year, and the route of Ouninpohja that they showed was identical to the two long stages end on end in the game. I was looking for it during Rally Germany, and at least one of the long stages was in Arena Panzerplatte. I was looking again during coverage of Wales, and the Bidno Moorland stage is Sweet Lamb (the Bidno Moorland-Pant Mawr stage is even called Sweet Lamb). River Severn Valley is part of Hafren.

Although quite why they chose Sweet Lamb is a mystery to me - Clocaenog, Myherin, Dyfnant and Pantperthog are all much better.

Greece is an old wrc stage used in the 2000's, can't remember the name.
I thought that might be the case, but I struggle to believe that it was a WRC stage - there are parts of both locations that are ridiculously narrow, with edges that look ready to collapse and trees that grow over the roadway and look sturdy enough that a rally car would come off second-best in a collision.

Found it it was the Perasma Platani/Gymno stage : https://www.rally-maps.com/Acropolis-Rally-of-Greece-2013/Ghymno

Hopefully more amazing real life stages will come in Dirt Rally 2.0 in a few months. ;)

I've been getting in to this over the last couple of weeks, on PC with an Xbox One controller. It actually works quite well with it.

A challenging game, but very rewarding. Quite easy to pick up and play, some racers feel like you have to dedicate a couple of hours at a time, but not this.

I did some RallyCross, which I wasn't that fussed with. It's not bad, just not as good as Rally, yet to try out Hillclimb. Currently doing the Pro Championship with an Integrale.

If you want to see their progress, a good place is the Codemasters blog: http://blog.codemasters.com/

They have a DiRT Rally story every second week on Friday. The hints about a big announcement are getting larger, so I expect they are either going to release something (maybe Early Access again?) in time for the 2016 holidays, or alternatively keep on teasing us for a late Q1 / early Q2 release.

Is there a reason why achievements aren't unlocking on the XONE? I won a hillclimb championship and a rally championship in a 2000s car, so I should have unlocked the achievements for them.

Those achievements only unlock through the main career mode, not the custom championships/events.

I love the learning curve in this game - it's very deep and engaging. Though I'm thinking... surely Codies could have had 'slightly' better visuals and make the car volume a bit louder and generally more "oomphy".
