DiRT Rally Thread

I think that there are problems with each discipline. The AI in rallycross is actually pretty stupid and laptimes wildly inconsistent; it's not uncommon for the slowest driver in your semi-final to be slower than the fastest car in the other semi-final, even at the Elite and Masters levels.

As for hillclimb, there is no direction for you, so the only way to get better is to grind through the stages, trying to learn absolutely everything.

Oh really? That's surprising. Usually Codemasters AI are one of the better ones. Chalk it up as one of the things to improve for 2 then.

As for Pikes Peak, that's also how it is in real life no? Makes the learning curve steep but at least it's true to real life. Not really a problem with the game.

Well, they're idiots at times. They will dive-bomb you when they go for the joker lap at Hell every single time.

You should never have to grind just to be successful. And it doesn't help that every time I do a custom championship, the game sends me to Sector 3. I can't remember the last time I did Sector 1 or Sector 2 on their own. Sure, I could do it outside career mode and choose my stage, but I get money in career mode to spend on new cars.

Ah yes, even in Grid they do have the tendency to be overly aggressive sometimes. I'd still take it over GT's zombie AI though.

Err...learning a track isn't grinding IMO. By definition grinding is repeating something you've already done over and over again for some arbitary gain (e.g. money or XP). If you haven't mastered the track, then you can still gain something from repeated driving. It's not just mindless repetition like grinding Super Speedway for cash in Gran Turismo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, don't you have all cars unlocked in arcade mode anyway?

yeah, learning a track (even a long one) isn't grinding. That's actually a pretty strange comment from someone who is presumably a fan of racing sims...I mean Pike's Peak is similar to The Ring really. You don't have a co-driver. you run laps until you are familiar with the track and then you try and improve your times...

Anyone got good controller settings for Xbox One? Doesn't feel totally responsive on default.

This means I'm currently very bad at the game haha.

Hi All
I've posted a question in the Questions and Answers thread pinned here, if someone could help it would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your controller question (I'm playing on PS4), but I will say the game is just difficult from the start. No matter how much I've messed with the settings, I still crash often and can't win races. I've accepted the fact that the best I can do is 3rd or 4th position on a stage. And I flat out can't compete in autocross or hillclimb. I still very much enjoy the game, don't get me wrong.

I feel like the best way to play the game is with a wheel, but it's very hard to justify paying for a wheel (and all the things that come with it) to use for one game. I wish I got Dirt on the Xbox so I could play Forza 6 as well.

Hi guys
I need a PS4 rally game and that game calls Dirt , but i need to know if the t300 issues are resolved.
Can you hep me guy?
More i read more i´m confused.
Sorry my english

I use the T300 with Dirt and it works perfectly for me.

Have you ever used a DD wheel? It must feel amazing with one of those.

there is no fanatec dealer around here,...............
i hear also that the feeling is not too different from a t300, but it is much more expensive,...

But until i tried it, i will never know ;)
( still loving my t300 :embarrassed: )

Fanatec does not make a DD (Direct Drive Wheel)

Well, it depends how much emphasis you put on FFB. If you enjoy okay ffb while having great visuals and sound, Dirt Rally is the perfect choice. Nevertheless, it has been known from day one that FFB on tarmac and ice is especially poor (little to no force) and the game generally lacks self-aligning torque for T300RS (meaning your wheel doesn't have the power to go back to centre when you turn it=you don't feel the grip of your tyres). This is why I no longer play the game even though I bought the wheel solely for this game. If FFB is you focus and you can bear mediocre visuals, Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo will be my suggestion, since it has a much better feel and you actually feel the weight of the car (not only me, but madwak, one of the keen players who keep on tweaking the ffb settings of Dirt Rally on PS4, also agreed on how SLRE is far better in FFB.)

i can not play Loeb after playing this,.. for me loeb feels terrible and totally off,...
(on a sidenote i use 99% only the Ford fiesta 2010 car)

soo as always it is a personal preference :dunce:

I just got this game for PS4 this weekend and bought the A110... MISTAKES WERE MADE

I bought DiRT Rally for PS4 yesterday.I got the Legend Edition used for a steal, so happy with it. I love the game so far but goodness it's such a learning curve. The way I'm crashing is no joke but I think a wheel for this game is the way to go. Though sadly Logitech doesn't love me because I have a G27.

I LOVE the Group A Impreza and just the sounds in this game are amazing.

I find the atmosphere heaps better than DiRT 3.

Lastly, the vanilla form of this game is honestly the best I've played in a while.

Kudos to Codemasters.

I play it only with controller and I can pretty much throw the car around the way I want. The most difficult part is to take it slowly and not to overdrive the car and trying to go to fast. Then the learning curve is much less steep :)

I've picked up that I have to be easy on the throttle plus this is a rally game where imo you really have to listen to the pace notes to actually be quick and survive. A lot of other rally games I've played I didn't really pay attention and just followed the road.

Then again I need to get used to the feel then I should be alright. These accidents are becoming too much man.

I always say that a Wheel and pedals are always the way to go with any driving game/sim. But with DiRT Rally, I've killed not one, but two motors in wheels because of the fact that you have to basically drive over the ffb. It didn't seem to like that at all.

I've said this a few times to folks wanting 'the max' FFB experience - basically you'd be exhausted after a long session and the wheel might suffer. Friends who used to race the GT5 Alaska rally endurance tracks we created found them too much on their hands.

Just making sure I didn't miss some option like in Dirt 2 where you could use any class vehicle on any track type?

You can only use hillclimb cars on hillclimb stages, rallycross cars on rallycross circuits, and rally cars on rally stages, but there are multiple classes of car in each discipline.

Nope, not there.

Wouldn't be surprised if it turns up in Dirt Rally 2 (or whatever's next), everyone seems to be clamouring for it

Codies are definitely well aware that people want this (especially since Sebastien Loeb Rally does allow it). I get the impression that they had to bend the game engine (EGO) so badly to give acceptable results in rally, rallycross and hillclimb that they simply couldn't fix all classes into all disciplines without giving each car 3 different sets of physics.

Sorting that all out was clearly too difficult for DiRT Rally 1, and like larger environments and deformable road surfaces it's going to be DiRT Rally 2 which will hopefully fix it.

I'm getting the hang of this game and reacting to pace notes accordingly.

I have to say I'm enjoying it even on a controller and it's so satisfying to achieve podium results. Not only that, but throwing the cars around hairpins, yanking that handbrake and pulling out with skill is just the coolest.

Plus it feels all the more rewarding to actually come first in a Rally. I love the Mini Classic too.

Nice one Codies, nice one.
