DiRT Rally Thread

Yeah I know, but I can do all of these things in Single Race/Championship from the beginning
You can't set the weather or the time of day. And on the early difficulty settings, the AI isn't super challenging (especially in Germany), and the cars are rock-solid.

You can't set it, but you can randomise time/weather using the options button (on PS4)

Maybe outside career mode, but it's more fun to buy up cars and develop them. From what (little) I have played of the game outside career mode, the cars handle like the stock versions and not the fully-developed ones.

Oh I misread you then - I thought you were talking about non-career mode options.

I'll get my coat.

Yes but you can do everything from non-career mode. Not a big problem thou, but unlocking cars/stages would be more challenging

I'd rather they concentrated on Dirt Rally 2. They've proven that the game can be successful; now it's time to expand it into what it can be. I'd drop the rallycross and hillclimb disciplines and just focus on rallying. I would add another twelve stages to the existing rallies to make twenty-four stage events, then add another six rallies, each with twenty-four stages of their own. I would also expand the roster of cars as only the Group B and 2010s categories are really comprehensive. And I would hire someone to make proper liveries.

I don't think there's enough potential content to make it substantial, though. It's not just a limited selection of circuits, but of cars, too. And I would rather they focus on rallying.

The cars they have are plentiful, if they could get all the world RX track that'd be amazing.

Rallycross and hillclimb simply need more content. No need to bin what we already have..

Expanding the Hillclimb to other world-class locations like Cardrona Valley in NZ (Race to the Sky) which is an Iconic Gravel Rally event.
Much like Pikes Peak before they ruined it with tarmac

why do they have a navigator in real live for a hillclimb, and in Dirt we do not have one??
Pikes Peak does not as it's a traditional hill-climb event.
But climb to the clouds makes up part of the Rally championship, which does have a Nav like all other rounds.

I finally have this. I wasn't too fussed for £23 pre owned and I didn't go out intending to get it, but seeing the Legend edition for the same price was way too tempting.

Climb to the Clouds at Mt. Washington.
This would be amazing to see in a game. I hiked the mountain and watched the last event in 2014 when David Higgins broke the course record. Was very sad to hear that would be the last time the event would be held for a while, but the event is scheduled again for 2017.

Finished off the R4 monthly event, thank the stars. If I never have to drive one of those oil tankers again, it will be too soon.

Honestly, the only good monthly event so far has been the Group B event in June. F2, 1980s and R4 are all terrible classes of car. Here's hoping that the next events are for 1970s, Group A and 2010s, since they're the most fun to drive.

Good choice my friend!

I've driven an equal amount on T-150 and pad, and it's ace on both 👍
ok I have played this more than I expected with the DS4, its awesome. Done whole championship with the Lancia Fulvia, cracking car, also done some rally cross with the mini, had a lot of fun on that. Shame rally cross content is so thin. This could be a big selling point for dirt rally 2.a

I did exactly the same, the Fulvia is a lovely car to drive, and great to start with also. Handles real easy (ish).

For my 2nd car I went with the Ford Escort mkII, but only because it was my first real-life car. I had an issue with the rear diff, but once you change that, it feels much better. (see a few posts back for some info on that).

Glad you're liking the game man, and let us know what you go for!

I bought the FIAT abarthe 131 because my older bro had one when I was little. Gonna buy the beemer next. Please tell me there's ca photo mode? Cant seam to find one

I'm not that fussed about new DLC, it would be nice - but I don't feel like I've mastered the game enough to want new stages as it stands.

Plus, in terms of DLC - Codemasters have never really been trailblazers have they? Not many of their games have had substantial DLC.

Dirt 3, Grid 2 and Grid Autosport all had lots of DLC, but as others have said, it's mostly recycled content from previous games and Codies got a lot of flak for that. So for Dirt Rally I think they are being on the cautious side and trying to earn as much goodwill as possible from the community. Free updates during early access and no DLC microtransactions post release. Game is all self inclusive and complete. Perfect. Any new content can go to Dirt Rally 2.

IMO, it doesn't make sense to drop assets that they already have for RX and hillclimb, so keep the cars/tracks already in the game, but don't add anything new. Focus on rally stages as you said (more locations and more unique stages within each location). Expand the car roster (good point on real liveries too). And of course, improve physics and FFB. Leave graphics and sounds as it is.

People are also clamoring for multiplayer rallies. Don't know how that will work though. Staggered starts will make waiting boring for those who start last (and finish first), and ghosting will be unrealistic and/or distracting. I think the current TT format is adequate.

I just find rallycross and hillclimb to be dull.

good point on real liveries too
There are actually some really good liveries in the game, like the Kicker Fiesta Rally. You just have to find them.

Fair point, everyone has different tastes. Just that it doesn't make sense from a content perspective to remove them from DR2. It's already there, so might as well leave them in.

I'm thinking more along the older WRC and Group B cars. We need proper authentic liveries from back in the day, and not one with modern liveries. Licensing might be an issue though. Also they might have to raise the game rating if they include tobacco and alcohol branding.

I think that there are problems with each discipline. The AI in rallycross is actually pretty stupid and laptimes wildly inconsistent; it's not uncommon for the slowest driver in your semi-final to be slower than the fastest car in the other semi-final, even at the Elite and Masters levels.

As for hillclimb, there is no direction for you, so the only way to get better is to grind through the stages, trying to learn absolutely everything.
