DiRT Rally Thread

For all its unforgiving realism, a few video game moments still creep in. I was running today's daily stage in Finland and knocked the rear spoiler off the Sport Quattro. Instead of the engine quickly seizing, I was able to continue on my merry way.

Yeah the damage system is the least realistic aspect of the game, I would prefer a RBR style level of realism. Any significant impact with anything should result in instant DNF.

That happens in the highest difficult levels of the game..
I got only one impact against a tree and my Rally ended right there.

Codemaster with his progressive difficult levels did i really good, cause makes that in the beginning you don't get frustrated

I've achieved terminal damage on the first impact on Open difficulty. I was going at top speed in the Mini and I flew down a bank and into a tree. The car would have still been recoverable if I was just stuck there.

Oh, yeah - I managed to get the 205 T16 E2 to absolutely fly; I changed the centre differential to split the power 51:49 and now it's an absolute rocket.

Was working on that car last night as well. Got #16 on one of the Greece stages.

Well, I hate it. I spent most of my time with the game today developing it, and the game insisted on having me compete on the long Monte Carlo stages. I must have destroyed more 205s than Ari Vatanen did Escorts. I got the achievement, and I'm never going back. If I want to run something from Group B in the future, it'll be the MG Meyro 6R4.

Wow, just fired it up for the first time. I suspect this will be death of my tx.

Forza6 has spoilt me...

The 2 most important FFB settings you can change when it comes to dialing back the weight and how strong the effects are, is Self Aligning Torque and Wheel Friction. You can run the rest of them pretty high, and just dial those 2 in per car/track. On gravel and snow I start with SAT=45 WF=5 and adjust per car. On tarmac I start with SAT=75 WF=35.

I've also found that it works best to change the dor on the wheel, instead of messing with the saturation (if your wanting less than 900). Just calibrate your wheel in game after changing the dor on the TX.

Eh, all you get is a unique livery.
The classic Mini also got fully upgraded and with a specific 'perked up' engineer, however I suspect that after this time the last two are now a moot point for both (I had mine from day one and can confirm on the PS4 that was the case).

I think I'm a Lancia person. I've purchased the Fulvia, Stratos and Delta Integrale... All of which are great vehicles but there's something about these cars which makes them more unique than others.

Bought the game the other day (PS4), but only had a chance to play it for a few hours. First impression is very good, reminds me a lot of the Colin McRae 2.0 game I had on PS1.

Absolutely loving the Fulvia, though the thought of driving anything more powerful at the moment, is quite a terrifying prospect.

Eh, it's not really worth it. I hate DLC and pre-order bonuses that only make the gane easier.

I had my first run in the '95 Impreza earlier at Finland, however every time I went over a jump it stalled?! So basically I had to hold the clutch in at every jump and if I didn't I would lose loads of time restarting the car after every jump - surely this isn't right?! It doesn't happen in any other car so I'm not sure......

Depends how your attacking the jumps, if you are going over them on the brakes or off throttle it does effectively stall the engine, just as it would in real life if you tried to stop your car in gear without the clutch. Try going over with about half or full throttle and see what happens.

Ha, I got a 2:59.126 on Pant Mawr in a Sierra Cosworth lastnight. I was well off the pace, but still got me to 136 on the leaderboard on the steam version. Was great fun as well, as I had the co-driver and all the HUD baring the tach turned off while listening to disturbed and supping on some orange truffle Baileys. lmao.

I am rendering out the replay video to upload, but I will try to repeat the run later and record some live gameplay while not listening to music.

Thanks a lot, will try

Finally got my hands on my very own 2010s car; I went for the Fiesta. Had to push all my braking markers back about thirty metres. It's absolutely insane on Monte Carlo.

I bought this game on Steam a few weeks back but only just got around to playing plast night. Man, what a fun game. I haven't had a racing game make me pull that 'Petter Solberg concentration face' in years! I was about to give up on PC racing after an unsuccessful stint with iRacing but this pulled me right back in!

Man! Finland's snowbanks are so not forgiving, it eats you right up. Kinda scary going flat out, one wrong move. Its over
