I'm pretty sure that people are only upset and calling you a troll for wasting their time, and the fact that false info is generally frowned upon.

For the record, there's the big difference between lying with a straight face (i.e. continuing to deceive), and having an obvious joke (whether funny or not) at the expense of the fanatical details of the game.
