DLC in GT5???

Wouldn't you rather want everything for free with the full game rather than spending extra money on getting the full piece of the pie?

Who doesn't, but there will be cars that come out after the release and things they just can't fit on the disc due to the size of memory available on the discs.

Updates over time, and GT5 update data like cars go on the PS3 rather than on the disc.

Exactly, there are certain things that they won't be able to fit on the disc(hopefully as that would mean it's full of cars and tracks). Concerning how this is a first party title chances are they aren't going to skimp on features that are included to charge them as DLC later on. If you think that's all that DLC is you should probably look outside of EA and Activision(companies that do it the most).

The only problem I see with DLC is this mentality some developers have already started displaying where they deliberately are holding back content in order to exploit the punters and take more money after they have bought the game. I have absolutely no objections to content being released to download if it is geniunely content that wouldn't have made the game should the network to allow DLC not have been available. Beyond that I might have personal gripes over price, I wouldn't want it to be too expensive, I do understand the developers need to paid for this as it is still work but I wouldn't expect to pay £1 per car. Though if the content is genuinely additional then you arn't missing out realy if you decide against it.

So in short, DLC is a good thing if not used to overly exploit the punters, it is all exploitation, that's business but sometimes it becomes daylight robbery and this should be regulated imo in order to maintain a high standard of games as they are off the shelf and a fair trading standard when it comes to online pricing of DLC.

FLASH48-->Sure i would buy downable content, but it had better not be already on the disc like another game i know of!

driftking18594-->And what is that game?

(sorry, y'all..have't figured out this forum's tools yet ;) )

Need for Speed. the last 3 versions (carbon, prostreen, and undercover) have shipped with all DLC cars and collector's edtion already on the disc. not only that, but EA has successfully marketed cars available IN GAME for sale as "DLC".

as for GT5 DLC, i would at least consider purchasing cars that were either unable to be modeled before release (it takes about 60 hours per car to code them i've heard?) or cars developed after the release of GT5.

ok, some tracks, too...depending on what's there already ;) right now with prolouge i'd gladly buy a few more tracks! but, put 80-100 different courses on the full release and i might not be so bored so quickly ;)

That's not just NFS, EA has made it a habit to do this in most games this generation. It seems that Activision is doing this as well, most noticeably with GH, there is DLC out on the same day the game is released. Like I said before, chances are this won't happen in GT5 with it being a first party game.

How many times can you download a track or car?

Let's say that you downloaded a track. Payed for it or not if you have the expensive version. Somehow due to certain circumstances you loose your downloaded track. I hope and it should be like this, that you can download this track at least 3 times without having to pay an additional fee.

I believe as long as it's on the same console and profile you can download it as many times as you need without paying again.

Yes, if its downloaded from the PlayStation Store, you can re-download everything for free as often as you want. But you have a limit on how many systems your account can be activated at once (5). So if your PS3 dies and you cant deactivate the account on it, 1 life is lost.

Download content in Gt5 would be an excellent idea and is very likely to happen as gt5 prologue has already added an extra 3 FREE cars, i hope this continues.

Just the other day i was confronted by 5 extra cars add on cars in the PS store for ferrari challenge priced at £1.29 each and 1 extra track 'the nurburgring' for £2.89, The complete package available for £4.49. I have seen similar content available for other games.
This cost is an obvious downfall to later released extra content but then i began to think...How do we know these cars weren't designed at the start when the game was originally released? This is a surefire way to make large amounts of money months after your game sales start to decline.
A single player could quite possibly end up spending ridiculous amounts of money on one single game in order to just get the entire car/weapon collection or even 100% completion.
1 single gt5 car was released with a price of £1.50 and a moderate guess of 500.000 were sold polyphony would have just cleared £750,000 and thats just 1 car!!
The last sales figure of gt5p that i saw was 3.67 million, taking into account that a lot more people will probably buy gt5, out of a possible 22 million units, lets say a moderate 5 million, its starts to make sense that holding a few cars back from the launch could make someone a serious large bank balance.
Yes i have to agree we are not forced into buying the DLC but if a new car is designed almost unbeatable then it is an almost irresistable offer!
I am of course using GT5 as an example as i do not expect polophony to do this with regards to past experience. Don't even get me started on the £4.49 psOne games!
Maybe this matter should be looked into by someone as it maybe deserves some legislation. How, i don't know!

Regards
Lee

My thoughts exactly. I've been gently bringing this up from time to time, because of the DLC with Forza 2. It's worthless offline - well, the cars are okay, though mostly more of the same variations, like people complain about Skylines in GT4. But tracks are no good except for time trials offline. Polyphony should be able to intelligently design GT5 so that downloads of tracks are integrated into the single player offline aspect, either by using placeholder stand-in tracks or some other method.

One thing I'd love to see is DLC content for the livery editor, such as text font packs, national flags, vinyl packs, decal packs and the like, along with full race car livery skins. There are tens of thousands of race cars from various nations, and it would be too cool if PD would license some of these liveries from the various racing types every year and offer them as downloadables.

One Idea for dlc would be to have a bunch of new cars and a track released. However the cars being of similar performance and it creating a new race event incorporating that track amongst others. Rather than having a placeholder maybe have a section in the world map called "new events" or DLC events.

iv said yes because i think DLC is a reason there taking so long on the game.. i personaly think PD will see GT5 as the start.. and over time it will change into GT6 through DLC and game tweeks..

if they get the core game right first time.. the physics nailled and the game engine then theres nothing stopping them building GT5 into a huge monster of a game with thousands of cars and hundreds of tracks there would be nothing stopping it becoming the racing encyclopedia they want it to be! apart from the size of the PS3's hard drive! lol

also GT-TV to me is classed as DLC and i defo want that included i want to be able to watch super GT and best motoring!

dlc it better be free like the prologue updates, cuz wat if u dont have the NET or A CREDIT CARD!, comeon, for all the time we have to wait it better be a full game seeing as how millions of copies of GT5p will be obsolete soon

They were free in Prologue because it wasn't a full game.

Also, don't they have PSN store cards now?

I voted no, because I want a solid progression system like in GT titles of old. I don't want to download more events after I thought I had completed that part of the game.

Though it would be nice if we got some downloadable cars - perhaps make them "special cars".

But anything major like whole championships, tracks and game modes should be in the original release IMO.

The only DLC should be free, and it should be limited to the occasional special car (e.g. a "GT anniversary" concept car a year after the game is released), and patches to fix bugs.

I cant stand to pay for DLC, it should be free. When we have paid for a game we deserve FREE updates.

Updates to fix glitches should be free and will be.

However it takes money to model the car than program it into the game. So unless PD is a sweatshop they have to pay their employees more than $.05 an hour.

if everything is free....yes
we know they wouldn't allow that so my answer is NO. I'm sorry but the price of a game on bluray is more than enough.

Yes yes yes, i remember gt4 having 1 single aussie supercar with 1 single livery which wasn't much fun when playing friends, now we have 16 cars racing against each other there should be 16 different liveries for good realism...by the look of the gt5 preview with the nascars its likely to happen. bout time too!

I said No - as I don't want to 'buy' any DLC... however I'm more than happy to download updates free of charge.

C.

More cars more tracks more features patches ect.. as DLC always a good idea (as long as the dlc cost is inlcuded in the original price of the game).

I would like following dlc policy :
All DLC will be free for those who buy game new preimum version(like 70€) or 60€ version in first month of release over people buying it used later. This way they might boost game sales a compete used game sales.

New forza 3 will have some system like that i presented.

If you don't have the internet, you will not know about the DLC in the first place. If you don't have a credit card you can go to a game retailer and buy a $20 playstation network card.

... but if PD develops a GT6 version as a seperate game, will all your downloads be lost or should it be possible to use the downloads from GT5 into GT6?

Why not? I would love to see more RIMS, Body kits, wings, Extra stuff.. We all know CARS and Tracks is a must as well

But..

We must expect a full game right away.. Damange, Weather, Day Night Cycles.. and Car customization (livery, colors, body kits) should be all included from day one..

So I hope PD does release a FULL game, I can wait extra time.. Even if it's full year from today..

👍

Sort the game engine for release, with all the features, a good selection of tracks and cars.

Then have regular paid DLC for cars, tracks and championships, plus mods and customisations if they are going to be present.

Extra features like added weather effects, or some other kind of damage modelling (rolling for instance) should be just be part of free game updates.
