DLC in GT5???

game comes out in less then half a year.. what if a year later a super sports car comes out, I would love DLC.

Wouldn't you want the whole thing in 1 package from the start? I'd rather have a new car in a new update than pay for it.

That'd be ideal, but it's not likely. Companies shouldn't be allowed to hold content back specifically to release as chargable DLC though, I think that's criminal.

That as maybe but PD is one company I don't mind shelling out for because I know I'd be getting quality. :)

Having it from the start would be nice, but if we waited for PD to model and include every single car worth being added to GT, the game would literally never be released.

I don't mind paying for DLC, as long as the content is worth the asking price to me. I think charging for additional content and specifically new cars and tracks, which is produced after the game is completed and shipped, is perfectly reasonable as it allows for a financial incentive for PD to not only create more content, but also to add the cars that are in high demand by the user base.

should be a maybe option for the poll.

gt5 has what just about every track in the world? including some of my all time favorite old school fast tracks, before they started trying to slow the cars down and make the tracks safer, the tracks prost and senna battled on during the good old days in formula 1 before traction control, launch control, paddle shifting, just raw power and driving skill.

with the tons of tracks already in gt5, and probably my 10 most favorite tracks that i will spend most of my time tuning cars on and racing. i doubt they will add any omg must have tracks as dlc, lest for me personally.

i can see cars as dlc especially if pd nets other missing manufacturers and custom track cars and modified cars and new model cars in general, that would be more interesting to me. after all with ps3 gt5 will be the first full gt game that can be expanded, tweaked and upgraded after release.

who needs gt6 on ps3 if they just sell new content for gt5, and gt6 is worked on for ps4 in the next few years? that would be the ideal for me, gt5 is already a gorgeous game in prologue if they fix a few nagging issues for the full game, i hardly see how if they do another game on ps3 how it can look that much better.

but either way with tons of tracks from all over the world, 600 to 800 cars, there should be more than enough content to keep people busy for the next 3 to 5 years, especially with the online racing that will extend the life if the game over gt4.

or they could do something really revolutionary and release the game for next to nothing, ie FREE or cost at say $5.

Imagine if you could get 50% of the game for free, if you wanted more you would have to DLC. That really would make this the biggest selling game of all time, and when enough people get the GT bug, they would probably be willing to pay plenty in DLC over time.

I still price things in fun per hour, for example, a DVD Film costs say £10, you watch it twice, thats a fantastic £2.50 an hour.

I bought GT5P for £20.00, i've played well over 100 hours, whats that, 20p an hour?

but then all the people who either.....
a) cant afford new downloads
b) dont have internet
c) dont want to download 400 cars and 30 tracks
d) whatever else
....will be stuck with half a game. I think PD would make the most money by selling the full game and immediately begin working on new "car packs" and "track packs" that could be downloaded via the Playstation Store.... by the time GT5 runs its course, we could have 1500 cars and 100 tracks from around the world!!!

I think they should try to under price GT5 dlc for they to capitalize big time as a lot of people will have the game but only small amount are HC simracers that will buy every over priced dlc.

by all accounts all companies are looking toward more and more download only in the next generation of consoles and even pcs. in the next 5 to 10 years physical disks and manuals might gone for good along with software chains as microsoft, sony and pc games move more exclusively to digital distribution.

i think its is safe to assume that in this day and age a vast majority of console owners have at lest part time if not full time access to an internet connection of some sort. and even if not i do not think it is totally outside the realm of combined dlc to make it to disk or special edition rereleases of games with much dlc included, see little big planet goty edition and fallout 3 both going that route, perhaps in some nod to people with no internet or dial up access, or perhaps just ina effort to get more cash flowing into their coffers.

I doubt DLC will have costs induced for Gran Turismo 5. Poly and Kaz come across as a company for the people not for profit. Otherwise, they'd have released the game as soon as possible and we'd have paid for the California, Evora and Citroen downloads last year.

Yes GT5:P was only a demo, but R&D of those 3 cars still costs money.

This is my concern about the future of gaming, ownership of physical media is important, it allows us the portability to play the game on different consoles should the one we own die, play the game 15 -20 years in the future if we want to do so, the game content should not be married to the hardware (console) but separate, PD may not always support all the games in their library with updates such as taking GT5 Prologue from spec I to spec iii. PD may be around for a long time to support online downloads.

It important to have the final content on some sort of physical media. I do support DLC, this is the future of gaming. Just don't
want the game & hardware tied together.

Exactly...
Sometimes I still play Super Nintendo games! :D

well i would assume that they will handle it when they get to that point, like steam does. you would buy your game from sony or microsoft via their store then the game would be downloaded onto your harddrive, and the way game size is going these days if they do go this route the next generation of consoles better have 500 gig hard drives considering blu ray games are 50 gig or so, nevermind that we all better have fiber optic t1 connections for all to download the games else it will take days or weeks to download.

but beyond those imo severe downsides, your game would be logged on whatever service you bought it off of, so it would be "yours" no matter how often you uninstall and reinstall it, you would just redownload it when you wanted to play it. of course this assumes that the service you bought it off of does not say go out of business any time soon.

if i had my druthers i would keep the disk and manual and box, but there is no doubt gaming companies are moving toward the steam model of distribution. it improves profits for them, no disk or printing to produce, they cut out the middle man of the retailer, and combats piracy to varying degrees.

course this could mean cheaper games for customers since they are not sharing profits with walmart and gamestop etc, but i doubt that will happen. also this model does for consoles what steam has done for pcs where your games have no resale value, they are yours forever.

The only time DLC is bad is when it is content that should have been included with the game to begin with.

But in the case of GT5, the game itself is going to be PACKED with content. It's going to be well worth the $60. Ample amount of tracks, cars, modes...you can't complain.

And so when a packed game like this gets additional content, even at a price, it's completely reasonable.

I plan to play GT5 for YEARS to come. If, every year, we got even more cars, more tracks, and more modes, I'd be all for it.

I am skeptical about seeing Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in GT5 on the retail disc...whereas games like Supercar Challenge, Ferrari Challenge and rFactor have it. But I am pretty confident we'll see it sooner or later in GT5 via DLC. So this is something else to consider...PD can cater to everyone's tastes by giving them optional content.

Heck, if PD ever put out a Motorbike pack in the future, I got tons of friends who'd be all over that. Why release another Tourist Trophy game when it could just be an add-on for $20-30?

Yes yes yes yes and yes to both. Paid and free.

I'd usually go HELL NO but this is GT so, hell yes! :P

I hope they do have DLC for cars, tracks and add ons. Free would be nice, and might be done as Spec II, Spec III etc as they have with GT5P. If they do release new tracks, I hope they build them in as part of the game and championships, not just have them as extras for timed laps etc (like Forza 2). As far as DLC quality goes, I really like what has been released for Burnout Paradise, the original game was good, but with free updates and a couple of paid ones there is a lot more extra game there if you want it in terms of cars, game modes and environment. Good stuff. Oh and as said before by others, having unlock shortcuts as DLC for parts of the game already there is a waste of time *cough*NFS*ahem*... If you can buy licences as DLC without earning them, that wouldn't be good, in any way.

Personally, in terms of tracks, I wouldn't want any new fictionals. Just the old ones from GT2 that got dumped. Of course, I wouldn't mind any (real life) city circuits, and some (real life) dirt & snow courses would do good to. As for world circuits...it's obvious. I want as many as possible, especially British circuits (i.e. old Aintree, Donington, Silverstone etc.).

For cars, I really couldn't care less...I could do with more old favorites that were put in the older games.

As for add ons, I really can't think of any suggestions.

My 2 cents, give me DLC. I love the fact that we get more options. The game will already be packed, so we know we will be getting our $60 worth (assuming that is the price).

I tend to buy quite a bit of the DLC out there for games I love, so bring it on.

Hello people what don't you understand each car takes 6 or less months to make so it might be long while to reales dlc after they will release GT5.

lets see if the forza fanboys still bash GT5 if PD releases a livery editor, track editor, video maker and a lot of other things that we can't even imagine right now as DLC. heck!, i'd pay for everything.

I will pay for everything from both game titles! They both are gonna kick butt. Then again, my wife will kick my butt when they come out....because she won't see me for DAYS!
