I dissagree with your timeline there magburner

Well, I was guestimating, ie. working on the assumption that it would take PD equally as long to create the next game as it has this one. But, why would PD bother releasing another game based on this one, when they could just release DLC for GT5? It seems illogical to step over GT5 after two years or so and bring out another game based on it.

I'm beginning to suspect that there is something about GT5 that we are not being told about, that is unreleated to the graphics, physics, and what has already been discussed here.

Why? Conventional games, don't take nigh-on six years to produce. There has to be some other reason for the wait, something that we are not aware of. It could also be the reason for the constant delays. Sony has shown its willingness to push the boundaries of conventinal gaming, maybe GT5 will push the boundaries again, in ways we do not know... Hence my earlier thoughts on GT5 being a platform.

It can be no coincidence that KY and PD have remained pretty tight lipped, drip feeding us information. In all honesty, what do we really know about the game, apart from what has been discerned from the videos they have released? 👍

Do you want DLC in GT5? I don't. Well, not for track or cars but probably stuff like add on extra customization packages like rims, spoilers.

Really, seriously? I'd love DLC, especially if we got some free stuff every now and then.

Why would PD bother releasing DLC when they can improve all aspects of the game for GT6 rather than just releasing basic updates, car and track packs, in micro payments over time that will equate to the cost of a whole new game?

GT1 and GT2 were the same game engine. GT3 and GT4 were the same basic game engine, just improved. It was an engine completely re-vamped from GT2's engine.

GT5's game engine will be upgraded for GT6 don't you worry. And Kaz actually said in an interview (I'll have a look for it now) that GT6 will not take as long as GT5 because it will use GT5 as a platform, making the point that GT5 was made from scratch, and they wanted to put more work into GT5 so the next game could be evolved straight from that.

Conventional games don't have as much content. Game studios as influential as Polyphony Digital usually have a lot more staff working on their titles.

And to point out, they have done many projects since GT4. TT, GTPSP, GTHD, GT5P (Sure, TT and GTPSP were based on GT4, GTHD and prologue contributed towards GT5, but they each took time out of the development cycle.)

Voted no, anything post release can wait for GT6.
Having said that, i dont want to stop others who want the new stuff asap from being able to access it. I just dont wanna miss anything, so as long as anything post GT5 which is released as DLC is released in GT6 i'll be happy.

I have a dream... where after the actual release of this game, PD/Sony assigns a team of dedicated "track writers" for each main region who's main focus is to create particular tracks that represent their region. Then letting people with enough GT5 points + exp to vote for particular tracks and get "localised" tracks to play in glorious GT quality. For me being Australian it would be Phillip Island and Eastern Creek to start...

Beats my why people would not want DLC for GT5. It's not like they HAVE to purchase it just because it is available, or maybe it's the fact that they have no will power to resist, but are too cheap to want to pay for it... Despite what Kaz says about GT6 not taking as long to develop, of course not, but it will still be a couple of years at least. At the end of the day, it's all about providing choice, just like you are not forced to buy the game in the first place.

I for one hope that we get at least some car packs as new prototypes and actual cars are released, and ideally a few new tracks as well. If they end up in GT6 as well, and I pay twice for them, so what?! If all GT6 represents is GT5 plus any DLC, I'd have to question its real value anyway.

You can apply the same logic to the people who are against the rewind feature, or against the driving line, or damage, or against special editions of the game. People just seem to be against things that they're not interested in and others are. No one is forcing you to buy or use anything you don't want to, but because you don't want to use it or spend money on it, no one else should have the choice either. That seems to be their view.

Totally agree, some features, content or options are not used by everyone and some seem to want to limit those who do by assuming everyone feels the same or should feel the same.
GT has always been about offering choices and provide enough variety in content to please not only the majority but also those with a different preference, not limiting, reducing and only focus on a few aspects of car culture.

Yup, choice is (usually!) good. I really don't bother with online racing much, but I know it's a huge part of the game for some, and it's there if I want it. Stuff like the rewind feature not being wanted is probably a reflection of their lack of will power to not use it! I say give us rewind, and let us cheat (or learn, as I like to call it) at our leisure! ;)

In a racing game(especially in this day and age), DLC is inevitable. I hope PD and Sony don't milk it as much as Microsoft and Forza are with releasing a new DLC pack every month.. but I hope they do implement it. The main reason being that there are some cars that will come out around or after GT5's release that people will want in and there could be other older cars that simply are not included that users will vocally demand to be included. I will pay if I feel I'm getting my money's worth, but if you're going to charge $10 for 10 cars, you can forget it.

What would I find acceptable to pay for? (The following list being all one bundle)
-Pack is released long after GT5 release date.
-20-30 varied NEW cars NOT including the following items in this list.
-New parts for the tuner stores and new full tuner cars.
-5-10 specially modified cars that had been included in GT5 before
-The latest SEMA Award winner
-The latest GT Academy Nissan
-Any cars Yamauchi-san raced that year in events
-The latest season WRC, NASCAR and Super GT cars.
-Historical WRC, NASCAR and Super GT cars.
-Updated Standard-to-Premium Models.

OR (These each being individual or bundled items)

-Porsche
-Newly Licensed Racing Series (Daytona Prototypes/GT Cars, Brazilian Stock Cars, BTCC/WTCC, Formula 1, IRL, V8 Supercars etc.[Obviously not altogether])

I would pay $20-25 for that honestly. Why do I justify this price? Because the actual game is $60 and has quite a bit more than that pack, plus it's on a disc in a case... $25 is robbery.

I would be most dis-pleased if PD/Sony chose to include popular cars that could have easily been included in the actual game on release as DLC instead. Though I do find it unlikely that they would. MS/T10 chose to do that with the Nissan GT-R and suddenly I was glad I chose to buy a PS3 for GT5 than an Xbox for Halo and Forza. The only car that could very much be in GT5 right now that I would spend money for in DLC is the VW GTI Mk6.

What would I like as free DLC? (These being individual OR bundled items)

-Any number of New Cars (especially newly licensed car manufacturers or racing series "teasers", to be fully released in a Paid DLC Bundle as listed above.)
-Updated Standard-to-Premium models.
-Alternate NASCAR Liveries/Sponsors, since so many drivers ride with multiple sponsors nowadays.

Tracks would be a bonus, but I'd honestly like to see new tracks saved for the next GT title, unless that's going to be a long time from now (should PD choose to try another project to take a break from GT).

I would love to see DLC expand GT5's content. It would take far longer than 1-2 months to make 50/100 cars though. We could maybe expect that number per year.

I expect it would cost money, but I wouldn't mind paying for them considering the price will probably be reasonable, and how much work it is to make them. If you don't wanna pay for DLC, then don't (even though you probably will! :P).

beefy DLC pack like that could easily sell for 30$-> 60$. Or they just could name it GT6

Of course, but say they nab the license to... oh.. WTCC? Would you want to wait until GT6? I wouldn't expect all the cars in a DLC pack, but a few teasers to get me drooling for GT6 would be nice.

Paid DLC should be somewhere in between a handful of cars and Prologue, and if they can add some high-profile pieces to really entice, I'd pay 30-40$. Themed packs wouldn't be too shabby either, but they really need to look into a few things.

-What would attract the most amount of people into downloading this pack at this price?
-What can we release in an adequate volume to grow anticipation for GT6, while wetting people's interest until then Ex: Say PD gets the Porsche license. For their sake, I wouldn't want them to release all of the Porsche cars for GT5 DLC, but I would like a few key cars to stem my interest until then. Like a Turbo model, a GT3 and maybe a race car.
-What can we release that might possibly move copies of GT5 just for the DLC pack, yet wont be as much of a selling point for GT6?

Their strategy for GT6 is of course going to affect what DLC we get.

Considering how unavoidably slow and painstaking it is to model new content now, I actually have no idea how they'll choose to move forward from here. Probably will get only very small DLC packs so they can bank some for GT6.

DLC content was coming, especially with a robust online management system like GT5 is suppose to have.

Somebody complained about $1 per car for 10 cars. Hot Wheels are .99 in most places, if you collect those I don't see people complaining about the cost of Hot Wheels. Considering the manpower it takes to design and render a car in the game, plus whatever technical feedback to make the car handle and drive like the actual car, a dollar per car is a bargain.

This is similar to the people that screamed about paying full price for Prologue and then again for the full release of GT5, effectively spending about $100 on both games.

I no longer see any threads asking for a discount based on if you were a Prologue owner previously.

So paying $10 for DLC pack released every couple of months would be fine and its optional, nobody is forcing you to buy DLC. If there was some car you coveted you would pay regardless if you thought it was worth it or not, its just the nature of the beast.

Not denying it doesn't take a lot of work to make a Hot Wheels car, but you have to remember that Hot Wheels are physically shipped via truck, and utilize raw materials in their construction. When those factors, plus the packaging and the payment of the design are put into the equation, the cars seem like an acceptable bargain. Any DLC cars will be paid by the funds from GT5, so it's not like the work will go un-rewarded for creating the vehicles, and not having anyone purchase the pack. My point is that it takes far far less to make and ship a GT car than it does a Hot Wheel. Granted, on an emotional level, they're essentially under the same useage.

If they can sell me 1000 cars on a disc for $60 ($100 for me since I'm getting the CE) then they can easily make 40-50 and sell them for $15-20.

I'm just going by what Yamauchi-san said about never releasing an incomplete game, any DLC he approves will be to modify and enhance the experience, not just tack on more cars or fix problems.

Agreed dj4monie. A car in GT5 has more value to me than a hotwheels, so I'd be willing to pay in the same region, although like Snaeper says, it should probably be less without any manufacture, freight, distribution or retail necessary. And I remember KY's comments about completeness and DLC too, but with all this premium/standard stuff, I'm not sure how he call the game complete...

For me it all depends on the cost.

I don't want to reward manipulative behavior, i.e., buying cars were intentionally held back in order to sell separately at a drastically increased price, nor do I want to support a pricing schedule where the actual cost of the game is going to 5x or 10x what I originally paid.

But at the same time, I expect there will be several tracks I want to get, and 10 or 15 cars. If that small amount exceeds the $60 I originally paid, then I won't buy it, because it's 100% markup, when 50% is already too much, imo.

I'd like to see extra events for the career mode as well as extra races in championship series, also if car modification includes race style body kits we could have updated kits as the manufacturers release them irl

would it be possible for the F1 cars to get aero package updates or would that be a bit ott??

I don't have any way of paying for DLC, since Jamaica isn't supported by PSN, so i'd rather not have any DLC. I'd really prefer it if they simply added new content, for free, in the form of updates. Or start supporting Jamaica.

I find worrying the amount of people willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money for DLC that add relatively little to the game.

Hopefully we shall get DLC but im not sure we shall see anymore premium cars. I feel after PD release GT5, any cars that are converted from standard to premium will be saved for GT6.

Still I shall pay whatever the price because at least we're guaranteed a game full of content when we buy GT5. The same cannot be said for other games that I have played on my Xbox 360. For example bugs remain on FM3 but rather than fixing these Turn 10 continue to put out DLC every month. The other strategy from developers that I really dislike is those that offer DLC only weeks after release. Pretty obvious this DLC was deliberately held back and could of been released on the disc!

I want my DLC free of charge. :D
(just like everything else...)

Seriously though, new features and stuff have to be free updates. Content is another matter, depending on how it is integrated into the game. 50 (new) cars for a tenner sounds good to me! Premiumified standard cars should also be free.

Generally don't buy DLC...since 2005 I've probably bought 6 items...but for GT5 I'll buy it all.

Two reasons:
- GT5 will be with us for years
- who doesn't want more circuits?
- more Premium cars new to the game

The only free stuff I expect are standard cars that are released as Premium model in GT5 lifetime.
