A set of rules are in place, anywhere you go,if you step outside of them knowingly you suffer the consequences. This is no different here. So I say no, but anyone that has some sort of "power" over you, have the ability to make you feel as though they are controlling.

Well, thank you for explaining that. However, apparently, other people disagree with you.

Over moderation and harsh are different things as well. A lot of core members have left over time, due to irritations with moderation. Not major over steps, but small subtle things that have developed over the years.

I am not trying to contrast Nazi moderation with anarchy, though it seems you think that.

What for explaining my opinion? Well, this is a forum. Don't take it personally, I was giving my opinion based on my experience with harsh and/or over-moderation.

I think your statement of "a lot of core" members is hyperbole, when a lot of core members leave a forum, that forum doesn't maintain or improve, it will generally collapse, be it based on number of members or quality of posting.

Where does all the hype around the moderators come from lately?

Seriously, I've been reading more complaints about moderators then actual great posts.

Personally, I think the site is moderated good enough. Amongst all the sites and forums I've come across, this site is moderated the best. So what if they limit you on the content you post? I thought everybody agreed with this when registering? Some of the moderators do have a habit to come across as a grumpy person, but if you ask them for assistance, they're always there ASAP.

In fact, I'll go ahead and say that the site is un-moderated :P With the release of GT5, some sections seem to be left behind, and a moderator is sometimes never showing up. The Photomode thread would be a good example. Not to bash daan or anything, because he still updates the section when contacting him. (Although I had to wait a week :P) I'd just liked to see a bit more activity from a moderator on that section to welcome the new members...

With other words, GTP needs to keep its current moderators, and those moderators need to keep up the awesome job they've been performing over the history of GTP 👍

I think GTPlanet is moderated, in general, fine. I've never really had any major probelms with moderators and have found the majority of them to be friendly people who are willing to help, even if the thing I'm asking about isn't directly related to them. Whilst I agree with Bram saying that some sections seem completely dead moderation wise, I can see why they are. The sections with not much moderations generally seem to be areas where there are still a lot of older members who seem to be able to keep the area in shape on their own. Moderation is vital in areas such as the GT5 Prologue section and GT5 as thats why new people seem to be coming here, so there are going to be more posts and more threads which need moderation.

Comparing GTPlanets moderation to let's say a certain Fifth Gear and TopGear Fansite Forum I'd say those over at the fansite are way too laid back. Often I'll visit over there and see tonnes of multiple threads and multiple posts in a row which make the forum look a mess. It makes me feel pleased that I'm on this forum primarily rather than anywhere else as the whole place looks "neat" as the case may be.

Concerning the fact about moderation causing threads to be "too" on topic or preventing them getting off topic. I don't believe that this is strictly true, some threads do allow disscussion to progress to other issues whilst still being related to the thread. However I think if the thread develops into a conversation about nothing to do with what it was originally started for then the moderators have the right to say to get back on topic. Simply, make another thread for the disscussion which was emerging.

BTW, one thing I've remembered just from reading this thread is how civilised the Premium section was in compared to several areas around the forum. It's something that I still miss even today.

True, but they need attention anyhow. The Photomode section is now being visited by a lot of new members, there aren't any "old" members over there. The majority of the people over there are still relatively new to the boards, and no part of GTP deserves to be neglected, no matter how active it is. :)

A friend of mine is a moderator at a game forum called "Game Lair". The slang used, even by the moderators, makes me think how nice it is to have such a mature board to be around 👍

On the Premium section: I've never been a die-hard fan of it. The Premium section in my opinion always allowed members to talk, gossip, bash, etc. members that do not the ability to enter that section. There were also topics made that had no real subject, and posts in that topics were generally about nothing...

The one you start yourself and are the only member of.
True...but it will get lonely..then I would have to make multiple accounts and somehow ban myself from it. Then come back to GTP.

I honestly feeling like registering just to say 'Seriously man, edit your first post!!'

I like his sig aswell. 'Eliminates the ninnies and the twits', so that be everyone who ever registered or nobody at all.

I honestly feeling like registering

+1 . Those that guy have a life? 1.76 posts a day...

On the subject of over/under moderating, I kind of agree with Bram. Some areas of the site seem much more over moderating vs. other area wher none can see any moderation activitie at all...

Wait there isn't actually a register link! How does this guy expect forums to work?

According to this thread, he closed membership down after Mac fanboys from an old forum joined and, y'know, actually tried to make it a PCvsMac site, with debates on which is better.

However, this seems like it's getting off the topic, and we wouldn't want those mods closing it, would we? :P

From,
Chris.

Uh, no. These guys do a great job and they should be appreciated because all of them are doing it for free!!! ;) --- Randy

I've got an infraction or two, fair enough, I deserved them. But I was pretty annoyed when Famine locked this thread of mine. Because I'm pretty sure that if I dug up the old thread then I'd have gotten that one locked too.

EDIT: Just thinking back to my first infraction, I reckon it's a bit unfair, as I'd never so much as had a warning before, yet straight away I had an infraction and two more chances.

Although... I have to admit that Duke sometimes seems like he woke up on the wrong side of the bed. But everyone has stressful days I guess :P

I can almost hear him say "Great(yawn), what poor idiot do I have to ban or give an infraction to today?" and then everybody runs in terror when he logs on :nervous:

Yeah, communicating here is like walking on egg shells. I'm always afraid of falling out of line with this utopia. If you miss something, don't read something or are not internet forum savy then watch out! Plus most of the boys in the boys club don't like it when your not praising the great deeds of the moderators. I appreciate all the work that goes into this but it seems your very quick to forget this is just a video game. Now I've done it.

Walking on eggshells? Seems more to me like you're stomping all over the eggshells with golf spikes.

After looking at that thread, I have a feeling most of the yes responses in this poll aren't from established members who are disappointed with the evolution of the forum, but rather are from new members who never bothered to learn the lay of the land in the first place. I'd look around the GT5P forum some more to verify this, but I value my sanity and state of mind.

Its not that when you fall out of the line but when you do something that wastes valuable space for something that has been already done. We were all like that at one point and it does have some great influence on some people. Also, its a great time saver when your question has already been answered by someone else. I have been conversed for defending the MOD because the person didn't look for the "AUP" link. But some people don't know when people are being sarcastic or even serious. If you look at my first two threads, I have been treated the same or even helped.

One of my first Threads.

Well, I put the thread in the Premium area first to judge the reactions based on, generally, more established members. You can see the results from that voting in the first post. I wouldn't say most are from complete noobs, but there is certainly a larger percentage of the new members that take normal moderation action as "highly aggressive crap." Which you pretty clearly pointed out with your quick research for whom you quoted.

Conversely... note how many members with previous infractions, temporary or semi-permanent bans, or whatever, are still on GTPlanet... and have reformed.

Sure, mods give out infractions... but how many people have actually been banned? Look how many infractions Poverty got before he got banned the first time... then the second...

Those who change and log-in under another user-name feel that it's worth the strictness to stay on. Those who don't don't really have anything to contribute, anyway.

Not too far fetched, actually.

From,
Chris.

That. Is. Insane. Seriously.

Duh. :dunce: I did see this thread just after you brought it out here. I guess I just forgot.
