Do you think the "competition" ever crosses PD's mind?

Overall, turn 10 has Top Gear in their pocket.

How does it make you feel?

Do you think this could put PD on high alert that maybe they're slipping? Or do you think they even care if they're better or not? Just the fact that Turn 10 is taking everything they did, and didnt do, and making them better.

I love GT, I'm a big fan. I've been one since playing GT1 when I was in the 5th grade.

And this is not a rant on my wanting to jump ship. I wont because even if the other guys do better, I wont because it's not GT. I could own both, but nostalgia's a "you know what".

For all you GT fans out there that have had GT's back since day one of the series debute, how do you feel about the competition, and PD's apparent obliviousness towards it?

Cuz after hearing about top gear, it just seems like PD is the kid at lunch who just sits there while the big guy just takes his sandwich.

I don't really think that turn 10 really has anything on PD. It's not like people who play gt5 would just go buy a garbage 360, just to have Forza. The only really good thing about forza, is there customizer, and I will say it's fun to be able to use all 1000 layers of vynal to customize a graphic.

Forza physics cant compare. even in the videos it looks floaty. Also whats up with the Rewind if you crash about?

see here @ 0:14 & 1:30...LMFAO

also does this look better then GT5 TGTT

to me it looks very arcade like

^
I'm sure it's because of the videos being taken off-screen, but damn, those graphics look worse than Forza 3.

It just really frustrates me how Kaz thinks he doesn't need to pay attention to the competition. GT can really benefit from using features seen in other racing games.

Make an online lobby. set it to Grid start. or in practice do a lap and pull up to the line.... is it that hard?

Not as easy as say I don't know, clicking on time trial and then it counting down for you. But this track is meant for doing time trials that is the WHOLE purpose of the track.

The game is no where as pretty as GT so don't start flaming me. Yes the game looks arcadey and floaty.

What I am saying is that we have had this track in our game since last year and it is already a feature in a unreleased game. *laughs*

Atleast Turn10 got that right.

we had a standing start when GT5 came out, but a patch changed that. also its not hard to do a quick lap and pulling up to the line. the timer starts after you cross it.

I have a lot of respect for the Forza series.

The problem is that the fantasy tracks are pretty lame, and don`t hold a candle to GT classic tracks like Trial Mountain and Deep Forest.

I understand it is not hard but it is a chore nonetheless, totally backwards why take it out?

Typical responses are typical. The physics comment is laughable because last I checked, no one on this site has actually played the game. The graphics comments are being made from off-screen videos; that says it all. Anyone actually looking at the interviews would see they have done a much better job (it's one of their key speaking points right now) with the graphics. It is naturally not going to beat GT5's b/c hell, a huge chunk of its development was spent around that to begin with.

And that looks like THE reasonably priced car..

If that is true that would suck. GT gets the track first but Turn10 gets the right to the events played out like on the show. That would be a total slap in the face for GT fans. The only thing I can think of right now is M$.:ouch:

Basically Forza needs to learn from Gran Turismo's graphics, lighting especially, classy presentation, and online PC gaming-ish lobbies, and Gran Turismo needs to learn from Forza delivering a very complete experience, AI, decent damage, modern menu system, etc.

This. Actually, they just need to watch a bit whats happening in other racing games, just that. They don't have to.."copy".
Maybe they're afraid to lose the "gt spirit" using different things, i don't know.

Yeah, I felt dissapointed when I found out that top gear would be in forza 4, I thought it was exclusive to GT5...sigh

im excited, looks like they really integrated top gear into the game and had Clarkson do voice work for them.

And for sure guys at PD will see it and hopefully come up with something better for 6

I'm not dissapointed by the fact that it is in as much just from what I just saw is why I'm dissapointed, and knowing how M$ is they probably paid BBC to let them have that feature, maybe thats why we haven't seen the Stig.

The sad thing is there really is no competition for GT5, and I think Kaz knows this. Now, if there was another racer on ps3 or Forza went multi platform, I think we would see some changes.

Also, if you've been watching Top Gear on BBCA, you would've seen this coming. There have been ads for Forza games during the show for a while now.

Forza's vision was to be exactly like GT4 + Livery Editor.
Forza 2's vision was to be more of the same on a new console.
Forza 3 they saw polyphony demo the super high detail cars / cockpits and tried to shoe-horn than into their Forza 2 game.
Forza 4's vision is lets copy, bullet point by bullet point, everything GT5 has.

Competition is healthy n all, but Forza is just a "me too" game. There have been plenty of other driving games that don't feel the need to do exactly what Poly do, unlike Turn 10.

Even though T10 have had 3 games out since GT4.... they never really expanded upon what that game offered with the exception of a Livery editor (i'm not counting online, since that's a given with all games for years now)

Now that GT5 is out.... suddenly they are doing day/night, suddenly they feel like doing all the crazy modelling detail, suddenly they do stuff with Top Gear.

Of course this could just be some complete coincidince and Dan Greenwalt came up with a feature list that coincidentally is the same as GT5's.

I don't think PD really takes into consideration that they do have competition, which could be a big mistake in the long run. Even if their main competition is on another console, the way they represent themselves now will effect sales of their future games.

They ignored some great features that Forza has. The main one, being of course, the livery editor. Hell I remember playing Nascar Racing back in the 90s on PC and having full customization for my car's graphics. Like it or not, it really is a must have in racing games these days. And just like anything else, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it. Customization also lacks on the GT5 cars compared to Forza.

They also took stuff out, like the drag strip, and gave us a fraction of the race events we had in GT4. Yes, there are seasonal events, but they really don't count towards much, other than now we can obtain new racing suits, but it still doesn't advance us in the game.

When it comes to handling, both games are far off from being completely realistic. Every game has room for improvement in this category.

Before the PS3s and 360s become obsolete, PD needs to come out with a GT6 and deliver a ridiculously great game so by time the next generation consoles come out, people will stick with Playstation and Gran Turismo.
I don't think there are enough people who will "stick with PD forever" if they poop out another GT5.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but I think they focused way too much on the graphics and gave us a mediocre game play experience. They need to start checking out their competition so they can top them, otherwise they could be topped themselves one day.

PD had every chance at implementing all that in GT5 when they bought the license. T10 saw what PD left out & took advantage.

Here's the difference.

GT5 started as and is Kaz' game. While he's incharge it will always be Kaz' game. His idea to start it and his ideas go into it. Turn 10 belongs to Microsoft. Forza belongs to Microsoft. Kaz directs GT, while Microsofts CEO directs Forza. Who will win? My money is on Forza in the long run.

Whoah there, you guys are all missing the real issue here: The car in that clip was a 599GTO!!!

You know, its entirely possible that Turn 10 are doing what they are doing with Forza because that is what people want out of the next game.

Unless you are seriously going to act as if Day/Night transitions is not a natural evolution for racing games, or that Forza should not get the Top Gear licence and capitalize on how much PD wasted it.
