Does anyone else have this problem?

When in the menu system in GT4, do you guys notice how low the refresh rate is? It's getting to the point where I get a headache just playing the game, which sucks. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I can see the screen flickering when reading text / or even looking at cars.

I also have the screen shaking / framerate problem at the beginning of races, forgive me for asking ( I spent 20 minutes searching through threads) but has Polyphony fixed this on the later versions of the game? I have the launch version and it's always had these problems. Thanks guys.

I'm never in the menus long enough to notice ;) Are you sure it isn't your TV? I've never heard of this happening because of the game itself (although there are those epilepsy warnings).

I used to have lot of headache until I threw the standard AV-component cable out of the window. I bought a nice RGB-cable and my headaces disappeared. However that's only me. It might not work for you but one can always try :) If you are interested search for RGB or S-video cable threads. There should me many, if I remeber correctly...

Well, I'm going to get another ps2 and copy of GT4 and see if it changes anything. This morning I hooked my ps2 up to another tv, still had the flickering/image shake. I showed my parents and they also saw it, so I don't know what's going on. I hope I can fix this, it'll suck not to be able to play GT4 because of something like this, oh well...I guess there is always Forza :-/

I have/had this problem. It happens in the interlaced video modes, which, for GT4, is everything except 480p (it doesn't support 720p). It happens in the 1080i mode, but it's not nearly as obnoxious as it is in 480i/NTSC.

My PS2 is the slimmer one, I got it a few weeks after GT4 came out, so I don't know if buying a new PS2 would help. If you can run 480p, that should solve the problem. Like Sentinel mentioned, you will need the component cables and a TV that can accept 480p.

EDIT: Let me add that I only see the problem at beginning or during the races, like you mentioned in the second half of your post. The menus are all fine (and they all use 480i/NTSC).

I haven't heard about them making any efforts to fix the screen shaking glitch. The only addressing of that issue I heard was when some interviewer asked someone from PD about it and the guy said basically "yeah, we don't know what that is. Just pause it, wait for a little while, then unpause it. If it still shakes, pause it again and wait. If it still shakes just wait for it to go away". Not very helpful, and I think they're done with GT4. I'm sure they're rolling in dough and they'll be getting on GT5 as soon as their hangovers are gone.
