Dog shoots its owner

A pet dog has accidentally shot its owner with a pistol.

Gregory Dale Lanier, from the US town of Frostproof in central Florida, was driving his pickup truck on Saturday night when his dog accidentally kicked the .380 lying on the floor.

The gun went off and shot the 35-year-old in the leg.

"Lanier said he heard a boom, saw smoke and felt a burning in his leg," a police spokesman told Highlands Today.

Mr Lanier, who was not seriously injured, told police he did not realise the gun was loaded.

The dog was not detained.

Ignoring what seems to be another passive-aggressive statement here by Grayfox on banning guns, it's a pretty funny story. Leaving a loaded gun laying on the floor of your truck isn't a phenomenal idea with a dog running around.

I just found it funny that an idiot who leaves a gun loaded was taught about gun safety( responsibility of loading/unloading the gun) by his dog.

I also will assume that the safety switch would have also prevent this type of thing even if the gun was loaded.

Also this goes along with those other crazy animal news articles i posted.

If the gun is on the floor, it isn't that hard to see the safety being off or stepped on.

Honestly, you could probably just make a special "Animal News" thread since you seem to post these 7 line stories regularly.

Fun fact: They named the town "Frostproof" because they through it would never have freezing temperatures. In 1895, a freeze wiped out the citrus industry for a a few years.
