People always exaggerate lag. I have been dragging using tree for a good 2 months now and can say with assurance that lag IS THE LEAST OF YOUR WORRIES. Sometimes we drag 4 wide at Indy and there is never a problem, we all take off at the same time. I have garbage Internet connection (50% most of the time) and the ghost lags MAYBE 1 out of 20 times. And when it does the guy in the other lane sees it, he reverses back to race you again.
People always say how far from reality dragging in Gt5 is from real life, but the reality is that reaction time is a very important part and contributes to the overall skill of the player.

Well, I know it's rare that you loose because of lag. But if it happens, it's annoying. Doesn't matter if it happens in 1 of 10 cases or out of 20. It is annoying.
I'm up to it and do both. I've no problem to try it. I just prefer time with fair guys. Cause then we try it as long till we start equal. Without any argue. Of course, you've to be in a good lobby.

If you racing good and legit members who won't jump, time might work. But even then if someone says "30" do you gas it at 30 or at 29.5 so that by the time it's 30 you are moving? Such small differences may not be significant at SSR7 but at Indy half a second is a HUGE difference when it comes to launches.

OMG I JUST RACED THIS GUY TODAY
Talking A LOT of smack. Told him I would beat any of his cars. My Le Mans vs his Le Mans. Our first run and he beats me by half a car
(Imagine how I felt at this time). Made some tune adjustments and ran him again. This time we took off the line exactly the same then when I started to pull ahead he braked and said "Ghost Lag. I was beating you anyway"
. Another hour of this sort of stuff. He then brings this guy who he says has the fastest No Stripe in the game. I beat him after which I leave. I can't stand people like this....

Lol DalightninRacer, I am always careful not to say I will beat everyone's cars because there are some fast people out there! He is fast and beat my enzo by a bumper on Indy but clearly went first off ghost. Then started with the abuse once he'd won, and wouldn't accept any possibility of ghost lag even tho he was US host and I'm in UK, just constant abuse that I was 'slow' and that he has never been beaten! Wouldn't re-race me either and kicked me out. Haha. The guy is obviously just a troll - especially now I've read your story. Funny how he quit when he started losing. What a cock. Avoid this moron!

Ghost lag occurs some times, specially if the server is overall laggy. But that affects the total time as well, so you are both screwed anyway....

TT3AZ, I agree - it could also have been that he had the better reaction time that time off the line but he wouldn't run me again so I couldn't check. I'm usually quite fast with reaction times though. To be honest almost all the 1/4 mile indy servers I play on are US hosts with 2/3 bars out of 5 for the room latency in lobby. I find that I rarely ever manage to get off the line at the same time as my US opponent on a US server with a US ghost. Almost always my enzo gets beat by a fast gtr v-spec 09 when I've been told it really shouldn't do by US drag mates who run 1/4 indy, yet I know that my enzo is pretty much as fast as it'll go. Occasionally *some* US ghosts work so that I leave at the same time, when that happens 99 times out of a 100 I will win. I really think that latency, especially on 1/4 because it is so short can make a difference, even with ghosts. I never have this problem with UK ghosts when drag racing UK drag mates.
Coming from an online fps PC gaming background I know that joining a US Counterstrike or Team Fortress 2 server when in UK gives you a ping of around 90-100ms versus a UK one, which is usually 20-30ms. It may be very small, but it does make a difference. PS3 games and console gaming generally doesn't have any sort of lag indicators apart from bars, which is why I prefer to play most games (esp. fps) on the pc where you get real time latency counters as standard.
I want to make it clear that I'm not making any excuses with the above, I'm just trying to work out if it makes a difference (which I think it does). I will happily admit when I've been beat in a fair race its just the big-headed morons who think they are actually faster when they aren't who piss me off!

Well, i would say, i often play on US servers, with US ghosts, and i come off the line the same time as them. But if there are lag in the server, the ghost can lag as well. This affects US players also. I play on servers with 0 bars to 5 bars, and problem can occur anytime. I some times play on Indy, and it isnt uncommon that im the one that comes of the line first, even if the opponent is from US and the person ghosting is from US.
From my experiance, and with the people i running with (US, Australia, UK, Canada etc), often we launch much more accurate with tree, at least i come of the line the same times as them more often. All serious draggers in gt5 knows about this ghost/time flaw, and that why we use to run more than once so we get an even launch. Besides, even if you dont launch at the same time, you can still see which car is faster, for example if the car behind you is catching up really fast etc.

Fair play. I have a pretty poor broadband connection by most peoples standards - its around 2-3mb. It is also shared and frequently other users are using you-tube etc when I'm playing - maybe that could be a problem. I know that in Sweden and alot of Scandinavian countries, 25mb+ broadband is pretty much standard for most people! I'm jealous

Yea but usually it is a one time deal and you guys just line up again and tree again. But with this guy there was no lag, he just didn't want to be humiliated by having someone like me (Look @ my PSN) humiliating him in front if his whole team

Yes, you can get 100/100 for like 35 euros, but those high speed connections are only avalible in special places so to sayFair play.
