Personally, DC does a very smooth job of 30fps. I appreciate that some folks are very sensitive to fps differences, but in truth I've only heard a few of them say anything about that so I agree that Evolution could pull off a very good rally game - it's what they originally intended for DC after all.

Overratted what? It's silky smooth compared to 30fps and much more responsive...Do you tell those lucky enough that own beasts of computers that their racing game at 120fps is overrated compared to 30fps?

Input response is no problem at all in racing games if the framerate is a rock solid 30 fps in my opinion. Most racing games process controller/wheel input at a much higher, independent rate.
Where it becomes a huge problem is if there are framerate dips so the visual cues on the screen don't line up with what you expect to happen immediately when you turn the wheel (real or virtual) or press a button. I had that happen on a few night time stages in Sebastien Loeb Rally Evo - and promptly drove straight into a tree.

As far as perception of visual smoothness goes my eyes can also tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps (have no experience with even higher framerates), but assuming a rock solid framerate there have been preciously few games - and DriveClub isn't among them - where I have thought to myself while I was playing, "this would be better at 60 fps".

Well i also play Forza 6 but i like that better graphics wise..... 60frames is sooooooo much smoother en nicer for my eyes en i just find it better for games. The same with Destiny and Halo 5 liking the smoother gameplay on Halo 5 with 60 frames.

And since i have Forza 6 i dont play Driveclub anymore haha it gives for me more car porn haha

how is it overrated? it looks and plays better, and improves better physics calculations. Does it have to be in every game/genre? No. but for shooters and sim racers 60 FPS is very important.

I'm pretty sure most racing games (at least those trying to approximate simulation) do physics calculations independent from graphics rendering. 60 updates per second wouldn't be nearly enough for a sim. It's been some years since I last read about those technical aspects of racing games but I seem to recall numbers in at least the multiple hundreds per second for physics.

I have tried the hardcore handling with different cars and conditions and the koenigsegg one:1 on hardcore mode with heavy rain is very terrifying. It is like driving a yellowbird. It barely have enough grip to do a lap. Drifting is still a bit difficult with some cars like the la Ferrari but cars like the corvette, drifting is amazing. The only frustrating issue I found with hardcore handling is if you a wall gently while you are braking, the car would stall on you until you change a gear. But, besides that the game feels like assetto corsa with the new handling.

Interesting indeed!

You will be slowed down for several seconds if you hit a wall in hardcore mode (I haven't tried if a manual gear change gets around that). Unless it's a bug I'm assuming they did it to avoid people getting creative with alternative braking "aids" in hardcore mode.

Has anyone tried out the new photomode features online yet. And if so how does it work online.

I think you are indeed correct in that regard, I was only referring to this quote by SMS
"For a racing game, 60fps is hugely important," Slightly Mad's Creative Director Andy Tudor previously stated. "What people don't know is that the physics underneath runs at 600 times a second. We measure the input you're doing on the controller 250 times per second. Project Cars does that way more than any other game - they're all doing that significantly lower. The screen refreshes 60 times per second - we're measuring the tires, the physics, the suspension, all that stuff, 600 times.

Also reduced input lag and what not. Not to derail the thread and to be honest I wouldn't trade graphics for a higher frame rate most of the time (so I'm very happy with DC) but a higher frame rate being overrated is something I don't agree with.

Previously while I didn't mind DC's approach I would always have to adjust from braking at sim-distances to DC's requirements every time I moved back from a PC sim to DC. Looking forward to how that has changed. I probably won't ever use standard mode again :)

I've just tried the new Hardcore Mode a few minutes and I have to say, it's not that good to me.

I have been playing GT5 - GT6 without any assists and was able to break some serious times around the tracks. Here, it just seems not right. Or maybe because in other racing games you can compensate the handling with some performance parts/settings which is impossible in DC. I don't know...

Actually, and it's quite weird for me to say that but I think the "Normal handling" of the game is just perfect to spend a good time driving, even if it's assisted. Hardcore mode will just be useful for drifting.

PS : I see some of you already drive the R34 ? How is that possible ? The car doesn't show up in the garage and the No Limit pack isn't available in the store yet (Europe).

Its a selectable car in the RPM Tour

Tour targets (lap times, speed tests) have not been adjusted for hardcore mode, but I guess that was too much to hope for.
I've actually only just started playing tours again recently, never got very far in them when I bought the game before I switched to primarily time trials and custom races. Have since noticed that some of the tour events are actually very good for XP.

I've tested around eight cars in hardcore mode so far. Some are still very nimble while others (One:1, Atom) are even more difficult than before and are battle of counter steering through most corners.
Overall I really like hardcore mode so far.

Only had an hour or so on the new tracks before having to work tonight, but I must say I'm slightly underwhelmed by them, they look really nice (as usual) but I didn't feel the instant love I got with tracks like Glenmorgan, I'm guessing the length has something to do with it..any track that is over in 50 secs doesn't to me feel like I'm getting any rhythm with it...or maybe I'm just a crap driver :dopey:

Hopefully I'll grow to love them when I get to spend some proper time with them

Oh no. I've been doing some new elite challanges, and guess what. There are 2 new bike challanges. :banghead:

The tracks are nice. I notice in the rpm tour, I can drive some pre order cars and I haven't pre ordered the game. I don't know if it's me but do the AI seems easier in hardcore mode?

Just tried out the new tracks! I have to say, they are surprisingly well-versed to the bikes too - Old Town 2 with the YZF-R1M is some good fun. Also, Hardcore Mode definitely makes the cars feel more lively, but I'm not going to use it that much - I'd spin out all over the place.
