Simon Barlow, Design Director at Evolution Studios answered my questions regarding the game on Twitter:

- Will there be some sort of track with a big 1-mile straight where I can test accleration, top speed and 1/4 mile times etc?
Simon Barlow (@TheRealFreylis)
- There's no discreet test mode but there are plenty of point-to-point tracks with long straights you can run on.

- In the Gamescom presentation, during the photo mode portion, gameplay kept going on while still in the mode. Does this mean there's some form of video replay feature?
Simon Barlow (@TheRealFreylis)
- The Gamescom build was created especially for the show so some features were debug only. We have been looking at a possible replay mode, but the weather update and photo mode are our priorities.

- Will we see a release of the soundtrack by Hybrid (including the remixes as well)?
Simon Barlow (@TheRealFreylis)
- I believe @Jiffster (Alan McDermott, soundcloud.com/jiffster) has some plans up his sleeve... ;)

So, to sum up those details:

- No test track but plenty of tracks feature long straights to test car capabilities.
- Features in GC presentation were debug only
- Devs looking at possibility of replay mode, weather/photo-mode updates are priorities right now
- Possible plans for release of soundtrack

I don't think I've even heard Evolution Studios mention replays.
Well, a photomode has been mentioned, so I'm thinking that will be for use in conjunction with replays as it's unlikely anyone will be using the PS Share button in the middle of a race. Okay, it's not proof, more like a logical guess.

All that graphical awesomeness without a replay mode does not compute :S

I was just thinking: Let's assume they actually hit their timeline and release the first post-launch patch around Christmas... I have a suspicion that Driveclub will be at it's best during the Christmas holidays, and that may just coincide with a bunch of new PS4 owners and people taking the plunge to upgrade from PS+ to full version as the weather effects arrive.

On one of their Facebook posts , Driveclub stated replays will come with an update . I am quoting that conversation verbatim here.
(FB User) I really don't understand why you Driveclub don't reply to my question...we know that the replay aren't at launch of the game, but when you'll add? After a month? 2? With a patch???
(Driveclub) Yes with an update. We don't have a date to share with you just yet though.

I don't know if that's Rushy that moderates the FB page and replies to questions or someone else from Evo but I really hope someone could ask Rushy to confirm that , at least , replays will come soon in an update because not having them is a deal breaker for me. Also , if there are no replays , it has to be said that the trailers they have been releasing using seemingly footage from replay angles are very misleading as we will never be able to see those beautiful vistas in game.

Pre-ordered the PSN digital version of Driveclub. I'm so hyped for this one-two punch of Horizon 2 and Driveclub, this truly is the year to be a racing game fan. :D

I was fairly excited to try this game and even had it pre-ordered for release last November with my PS4. I have the PS4 and still no DC.

The only reason why I originally pre-ordered it was because it was going to be the only driving game on the new consol.

I suspect this will be the only thing that will now drive sales (forgive the pun).

I will download the free PS plus version just to try it and confirm what I already believe the game to be.

Now comes some harsh words. It is nothing more than a NFS, street racer, arcade game, suitable for 8-14yo olds with hand controllers that have no idea what skill is or race craft is about.

No race tracks, no race cars, no skill needed as you only appear to have to be able to ricochet off walls, rocks and other cars. So that being the case it will appeal to half the people that now play GT6 online ;-)

I would like to be proved wrong on all these points but I wont hold my breath.

Flame suit <ON>

BTW like others who commented here I too have pre-ordered Pcars and hold some high hopes for this on the PS4. We certainly need something now that PD and Kaz have lost the plot ;-)

The graphics are great, but the Sound is not the strength of Driveclub, thats for sure.

The Maserati Gran Turismo, Audi R8 and Pagani Zonda sounded horrible. Especially the Maserati and R8 sound like amercian muscle cars.

This game has only about 50 cars, I've expected more quality on each car. Even NFS Games got more cars and better sound. I've preordered the PS+ Upgrade and will have fun with it, but this game is overhyped. If Drive Club would have the same bad graphics as The Crew, no one would care for it. But it's like in the last console generation, great hype comes with great graphics.

If you need to use walls in an arcade racing game, you don't have skill. It's a different kind of skill all together from regular racing games, to dismiss it as 'lol noskill' before we've even got our hands on the full game is a bit silly. A good arcade racer requires just as much skill as any other genre. The benefit is they are easy to play but difficult to master, the very principles that underpin gaming from the beginning.

Just because a different kind of skill is necessary doesn't mean none is needed.

I wonder, does anyone know if the AI in this game make mistakes?
They seem rather agressive, they will ram you if you just overtake them without proper planning. ramming cracks your windows when using cockpit view so you will feel more tension when being rammed if you use cockpit view.

Hmm, well, that sounds disappointing to say the least. I think I'm going to faint if I see another NFS-clone rolling out. BUT.... I will hold my breath.. and wait for a review!

B.K

Right... this is certainly very disappointing. The R8 not sounding right especially, since so many games including the Motorsport and Horizon games got it right on previous gen. And here we were thinking one of Drive Club's greatest strengths were the engine sounds.

Man, I have a feeling Horizon 2 is going to give DC a really good run for its money.

Thanks for all of that info. It's what I suspected but couldn't put my finger on proof-wise.

Ignore reviews, just try for yourself - it's free, so what do you have to lose? I always trust what I can see and hear myself over what someone else's thinks.

It takes skill to play old fashioned Pinball BUT I do not consider that a very good driving game either ;-)

COD Ghosts (which I have now traded back) the online lag and hacking destroyed this game for me. The offline campaign was good except to get my platinum I was forced to play this filth called Extinction and do the online segments for it So I missed out. This has finished me for this franchise and I will never play another COD ever. BTW I have played about the last 6 and they have slowly gone downhill until this ultimate piece of garbage.

The other is Wolfenstein (Platinum trophy) no online content so all offline and not a bad storyline. Graphics are very good. In it you can even play the original Wolfenstein for PC and the associated bad graphics from the first PC days. This was the original first person shooter that stated it all.

Some free PS Plus stuff. e.g Warframe I think I lasted about 40 seconds before I realised why it was free ;-)

While we are talking about PS4 games. It took PS3 nearly 3 years before the games were hacked. PS4 COD Ghosts was hacked before release day! Another reason why this was my last COD title :-(

Could get knocked down a bit in reviews for not having photomode, weather and replays at launch but I suppose this game is all about connected social aspects. Can't see it fairing too well anyway.

The visuals will sell it to many casual gamers wanting something to show off their shiny PS4.... But of course they will all have the PS+ free version to do that with.

It will be very interesting to see how many people buy the full game: Driveclub devs have made their lives very difficult with the extended demo, haven't they? :)

There was also an indication that at least replays were planned to be in the game before they probably got scrapped out . In the 2013 February reveal trailer , if you pause the video at a certain moment while it's showing game features , it says "with skill points you earn , you can unlock filmographic filters that can be used in replays".
Also , a while ago , in this thread he made about Driveclub , while asked to clearly confirm if replays will not be in the game , he avoided a direct answer by saying "we have not said anything on replays yet " http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?/topic/268931-driveclub/page-24
Imagine they include weather , replays , and the ability to play music from the hard drive in a major update by Christmas ! That'll be a wonderful audiovisual gaming experience ! I truly wish someone could reach out to Rushy on Twitter or elsewhere and have him answer that question just for our peace of mind.

Unless I have missed a post somewhere where has all the discussions come from with what's missing from the game ? I understood this is why the game had been delayed.

Is the a link with features at release and what features are to follow as I don't want to buy a half finished game.

I agree, it looks very average, but I guess I was right.

I've noticed that the graphics quality varies and depends on daytime. For example, in the evening about 8pm it looks fantastic(like the SLS at Alaska GIF). But in the morning or afternoon there is sometimes like a white layer on the cars which is also seen on the standard cars in GT5/6 and the reflections were bad, which looks not good. The lighting is at these daytimes not the best.
Also I find the lighting at midnight not impressive when you see how great it was in GT5(reflections, sharpness, realistic looks etc).

But however, I hope that we can open lobbys and change settings how we want or will there be just a matchmaking system?

And when will it be possible to Download the PS+ Upgrade? It's my first pre-order so I would like to know if we will be able to download it a few days before release and it will be unlocked on release or do we have to wait till release day to download it?

@chromatic9

I just noticed on the first screen it says 18% Progress. So this may be an early build?
