@MeanElf You're very welcome. Word is that photomode, dynamic weather and replay mode will be after release and free. No word on exact dates for these features as of yet.
Cheers once again, I was aware of dynamic weather/photomode/replays coming later - but with the version they were showing at Igromir, I sort of hoped they'd pulled it all together for the release.

I suppose that was just their own build they were showing there then.

...What? GT's lighting model is utter garbage. On several tracks you can't see a thing in the dark, and on several others, the lighting completely craps out during dusk/dawn.
Careful, that's fighting talk ;)

It's a bit sweeping to say that all of GT's lighting model is utter garbage. Have you not seen the glorious photomode galleries weighing this site down? I'm also mystified about the inability to see in the dark. I seriously never had a problem, except for Willow Springs, but that's because there is very little for the light to reflect back from.

That gif is a grainy horrible mess. All its doing is making everything look worse.

When does this actually come out? I might pick up a PS4 during christmas, or very early next year.

According to IGN, October 7th in North America, 8th in Europe and 10th in the UK. So next week, basically.

Sorry, not seeing it as a grainy mess at all. I can see water droplets on the car, looking quite crisp considering it's a GIF.

Launch info was a few pages back:
US - 8th Oct
EU/Asia - 9th Oct
UK - 10th Oct...

Yeah didnt want to look through 54 pages for it, thanks for that:tup:

Still, that gif is far from crisp, lol. It literally looks like a thick film of grain over it. How you can make out the water droplets is beyond me.

The rain effects, lighting mood, and wet roads are just simply ahead of other racers.

The headlights even reflect off the other car's side view mirrors. Such attention to detail.

Willow was exactly what I was referring to. Also, try driving at Ascari, Brands Hatch and even the glorious Nurburgring at specific times during sun set/sun rise. Absolutely awful. The event with the Ford GT time trial on Nordsleife shows this well, with your headlights being useless during the transition between sunny and early night.

Point is that while you can pick specific examples where the lighting in Gran Turismo looks pretty good, overall, it's pretty damn awful. But consistancy seems to be a foreign concept to PD.

Not sure if been discussed but the full game upgrade is only £34.99 BARGAIN !

Think the season pass in gonna be £19.99 so everything for the price of a normal game.

I can't wait !

Yeah just noticed that, if the extra download from the Plus edition to the full thing isn't that big this might be my first digitally bought game.

Sorry, can't agree with you on that, but probably this is the wrong place to discuss that further. Send me a PM if you wish to continue the debate.

There was a clip a few months ago where it showed the transition from dusk to night. I noticed the headlight-cast shadows rotated around the cars as yours passed them - even the more distant cars, so I agree fully.

I'm hoping Norway's tracks can be any where near as good as SEGA Rally Revo's Alpine tracks, those were some fantastic arcade tracks.

Day one review, thought they should go the Destiny route and wait for the day one features and the community to gather before reviewing.

Someone start an official GTplanet club list directory. (don't look at me)

When the game is released someone will have to create the official gtplanet livery. When you join a club all members automatically get the livery. Maybe we should all give making a gtplanet themed livery a shot and then vote on which is the best and thus which one we'll use?

I'm interested to see what tracks Scotland will have in the game as I'm most looking forward to racing there.

Yeah, that sounds great.

oh ok, my bad. It's a good thing to have the percentage counter at point to point races.

I feel that the 458 has one of those Maserati Gran Turismo and Audi R8 sounds, just a lil bit mixed up, but the characteristics of the sounds are similar. This reminds me of Gran Turismo where you have the same "structure" of sound producing. DC Sounds like all from the same Synthetic soundlibary and just changed a bit for every car.

The positive thing about the 458 video is the screaming sound of the F12. You can hear it even if its a few hundred meters in front of you. I really hope they dont mess up the sound of the F12. Its one of the best sounding cars in the world and one of those cars where realistic sound is really really important, because its so special.

Right, yeah. It just didn't feel right to me. Never heard a 458 IRL, but based on what I've seen/heard in Top Gear and some internet vids, FM and Horizon get it a lot closer to the real thing.

What GT does amazingly is the lighting model. Environments are pretty bare, there's a lot of aliasing, unstable frame rates, but despite that I can spend hours just watching replays with the GT lighting model because it really looks great, replay angles are great, and the different replay camera angles per lap is a great touch.

In comparison, Forza, pCARS, AC, iRacing and Codemasters games all have more interesting/exciting environments but nothing quite achieves the realistic lighting and colours of GT, and none of them approach GT's attention to replay angles and variation. I get bored much quicker watching replays in any of them because the lighting never quite does it for me, each game looks slightly off.

One of the draws of DC for me is that in many videos their lighting model seems to approach that of GT, but with vastly more awesome environments, draw distances, etc... But obviously replays are needed to really appreciate the lighting :)

I don't know your budget, but if you aren't going for the most expensive ones, I can really recommend you the Sony KDL50W828 (or 829, depending on region). Absolutely amazing TV, and claimed best TV in it's price range (upper middle range) by quite a few.

I have it myself, and the picture quality is superb. And it has one of the best response times for gaming of any LED/LCD TV's out there.

GT's lighting and replays: best in class. 👍

Even though I really dislike Inside Sim Racing, here is some gameplay with a Thrustmaster T300 RS. Looks pretty damn good.

I'm sold. Will be picking this one up first thing in the morning on Tuesday.

Which just happens to be my day off. :sly:
