Driver: San Francisco

The sense of speed could've been closer to real life as well I think. Feels too fast in a way IMO.

I do not own the game but this point is one of the reasons that I have skipped it, from what I have seen it plays to a bit to fast.

Mafia II had it perfect in my opinion, great feeling of speed, not to overdone.

I find the lack of throttle modulation makes it harder to control powerful models than if it had realistic grip levels.

I thought that too, about the Film Director. Shame, I was really looking forward, I guess I'll have to get used to it

Anyone up for some type of mini-meet on the PS3 version? It'd be cool to cruise online in Free Mode then play some matches after.

I got a collector's edition for my birthday yesterday so, once I've finished the story mode (which won't be long) I'll join you.

The shifting thing makes sense - or it is at least consistent with the storyline - but it is utterly ludicrous. Still, makes for a good quick travel mode.

My advice is to do all the blue side missions that pop up, before you tackle anything yellow with a T.

That way, you'll unlock all the cars as you go along, and get to do some awesome side missions that you might otherwise miss, and the game will last you 3 times as long too.

But in all honesty, it's all about the film reincarnations that you unlock for me. That and the Murcielago LP 670-4 Super Veloce in cockpit view on the freeway.......

Oh, and Happy Birthday for yesterday, you cleaning nozzle 14b.....

Only takes about 3 to 4 hours of not-very-hard work, and plus you can't take your cars from offline to online.

Already doing :D

14F. Also, thank you :D

I know, I just like to do the single player before I go online so I'm used to the environment and physics.

So what are the police pursuits like in this game?

I might possibly rent this game once I'm done with my assignments.

Just rent it anyway, it's easily worth a rental.

Even if all you do is drive round, collect all the film token thingies and do the film challenges.
You will need to unlock the whole map to do them all though.

Squirrel!

It's worth it just for the "in the style of" music that accompanies the movie challenges :D I laughed my sphincter clean off when I got to the end of the Miura movie challenge

So, anyone up for some GTP multiplayer/trophy boosting this weekend?

Definitely, I have an entire 2 weeks of free time. 👍

What are you doing at noon GMT tomorrow (11am BST, 24/9/11; 10pm AEST, 24/9/11)?

I'll probably be on, but not for long if it's at 10PM since I have a fever. Any chance of say, an hour earlier maybe?

None at all (since it's already half an hour past that  )

If you're up at 9am ish I'll probably be online doing something.

Half an hour past that? I thought noon GMT was 10PM for me.. it's still 7:30PM here.

Anyway, I'm basically on PSN during normal working/school hours now and up a little late too. Just send me an add or something so we can have an impromptu meetup sometime.

So looking at the PC version there is a page in the menu for wheel settings, yet there is no way to calibrate an axis to those functions. It only seems to recognise buttons on my g27, hmm.

The graphics on PC are about 10000000000000000000000x better than PS3 however, the PS3 does the cockpit models no justice.

I'm having a blast with this game, glad I picked it up. The physics alone are what keep me playing, throwing the cars around, doing slides around corners, burnouts and donuts, plenty good fun. Definitely reminds me of the older Driver games. I'm actually glad they kept the focus on the driving part of the game, instead of trying to add unnecessary on foot missions.

I'm also having a blast playing the split screen free roam mode with my brother. I just wish there was a bigger selection of cars to use in the two player free roam mode...

Anyway, this is a great game, and if you're into more of the classic style driving games, such as older games like Midtown Madness, Driver 1 and 2, etc, then you'll love this game as well. It's a solid 8/10 for sure.

That was weird. What does this mean. Planned wheel support but they canned it? Or it will come with patches?

There is a way to make it work now, maybe there always was but it involves this:
Enabling Multi-Monitor, 3D Vision and G25/G27 support in Driver San Francisco.

Enabling G25/G27 support :

1- Open the Driver San Francisco\Input\0x046d folder you'll find two folders and a file named 'description'. Copy and paste the 0xc295 inside the same folder and rename it 0xc299 if you have a G25, or 0xc29B for a G27. Thanks to NascarVike at UBI forums for this solution.

2- Make sure you have the "Pedals Reported As Combined" unchecked in your wheel's Windows controller panel.

3- In case the steering doesn't respond when you satrt the game, alt-tab to desktop, go into Shift mode and come back to the car a few times till the steering responds. Once it starts it's fine.

I can confirm that it worked with my g27 by alt tabbing as suggested.

Wow this is so weird. Why would you have to go to such steps to get wheels working?

Fit the game scheme breaking the fourth wall with the alt tabbing back to desktop though.

Anyway how well does the wheel work? Is it just a hassle with little return you are better off with gamepad? That is the answer I want if it´s that tricky to get it working right lol.

Oh trust me, this game is designed around the gamepad. The wheel and the keyboard are by no means a suitable way of playing the game through, not a chance.

The wheel had no actual feedback (just self centering) and as the driver physics are really arcadey you cant get a feel for what the wheel is doing. Full lock is just as useless on the wheel as it is anything else which makes it feel really odd.

I have this on both PS3 and PC, the PS3 version looks worse (by a lot) but is better by far, simply because of the controller layout.

I could setup a controller on PC but I really cant be bothered considering I didnt exactly get the game by legitimate means, therefore im not losing much.

I am using the Xbox 360 gamepad for PC so I am well off there. It´s really the only option you should go for gamepad on PC. I would love to have it on the PS 3 as well but that will of course never happen lol.

I have run it some hours now and yes particularly with the shift function I feel it would be horrible on a wheel since mine don´t have any analogue joysticks to navigate around in shift mode. It don´t impress me much handling wise yet but it´s good throwing new stuff at me at least and I love the pussle element the shift function involved trying to figure out how to use it to your advantage. But it certainly feels a bit quantity over quality.

It´s a shame about the physics though since I remember the original driver which was pretty much the first game I run on my logitech wingman formula GP if I don´t remember wrong. For the time great feel of the cars and working great with wheels. It´s horrible when things move backwards :(

I will surely have some fun with this anyway. I can´t help it but to compare it to midnight club LA. So far that game is better in just every regard except for blurrier visuals. PS 3 afterall so it can´t help to stink. But it´s city felt more dirty, alive and better designed. It was fun to explore and you really had to learn the short cuts. Also preferred it´s driving model and it was something so uncommon as a really challenging arcade racer! It did work surprisingly well with wheels.

Driver so far seem to be just like Ubisoft believe all games should be. Super easy. Assassins Creed you was immortal from day one. Last Prince of Persia you couldn´t die. However I suppose it´s not necessarily for a good thing. The reason Midnight Club LA could get away with it´s sometimes insanely hard races was that it was so superb done it was just as fun doing the same race for the tenth as for the first time.

As for performance it´s buttery smooth but when there is polis chases it comes to a crawl very quickly. Question is what settings to lower to keep it smooth the entire time? Also curious what is the best way to shake them off. So far the only remedy is to go straight as fast as possible dodging traffic. Har to shake them trying to go for alley ways.

I can't help you in that department as I don't have a problem with slow downs on my pc but I could suggest perhaps dropping the anti aliasing down one level, it may not make a huge difference on this game but give it a shot.

I have detail set to low. Still look about as good and perform about as good/bad. no AA and no aniso no avail. May be ram limited since it seem to get worse the more areas you unlock. Can´t upgrade that sadly.
btw how much money do you earn by buying new cars? I have focused more on the upgrades haven´t bought much cars at all.

You don't earn more money by buying cars, you lose it.

You do earn more smiles by buying cars, as that's what makes this game fun.
