EA is working on a Patch for the PS3

I found the game freezes based on these conditions:

1. Car needs to do at least 310km/h
2. Needs a track with a really long straight. Nordscliffe and Bathurst are where It happens for me nearly every time.

If I run laps around the track and back off on the straight holding about 300km/h the game wont freeze. If I push and hit about 310+km/h the game will freeze while driving along top speed. Bathurst was definitely the worst culprit for me.

I still cant seem to consitantly get high speed freezes.

I CAN reproduce a freezing in the menues. Go into my cars, and as fast as you can, tune all your cars steering lock from defualt to max, then save them to all tracks, overwrite the track tunes. After about 6-10 cars it will freeze on loading, and require a hard boot.

I do not get the freezes, but anytime I use a fast car and really push it, after a few laps I get a "controller disconnected" pop-up on PS3 Slim. Using a Fanatec GT3 RS V.2.

This does not happen when using same wheel with other games.

Has anyone else experienced this?

As far as I can tell,in my PS3, the freezing bug is completely random...got it twice last night with the MC12 in Spa and Bathurst, but I've had it with low tier cars in other tracks...

Keep the pressure up. Keep listing the issues, freezing, input lag, and online collison detection. It cant hurt to keep it up IMO.

The latest from EA:
"Thank you so much for your speedy reply! I am aware of this issue. The information has been forwarded to the developers so that they can look into it. While I can not guarantee what action they will take, if any. I can assure you that they are aware of the issue. Now, since I know that having this sort of uncertainty, on top of not being able to play your game is very frustrating, I would be more than happy to offer you some compensation for all of the time and frustrations. Please let me know if that sounds ok! I look forward to hearing from you and working this out together!"

My reply:
"...The only compensation you can give me is for EA to make an official statement on the EA website, or in the EA forums. What most people are interested in is:
- Are you aware of the problem?
and if so:
- Do you know what causes the problem?
- Are you going to fix it?
And if it's possible to say anything about it:
- When will it be fixed?

There are also some other issues with the game, and other customers feel very strongly about them, so it would be very nice of EA if you could comment on the issues in the forum periodically.

At the moment we (your customers) feel like you are ignoring the problems, ignoring the customers, and instead waiting until both the problems and the customers magically disappear..."

LOL now EA asked their poor customer service employees to tell you some marketing crap. The truth is they already know everything, they're just trying to keep it silent for the most, and keep you quite. They spent too much money on corrupted reviews around the web...

I can't reproduce the freezing issue anymore!
The last time it happened was before the latest PS3 firmware update (3.66) so I don't know if this has something to do with it...

I tried to to take GT1 cars to Nordschleife, which in the past would guarantee a hard freeze, but nothing happened and the game worked like normal for many laps. I then tried with a Murcielago Works and still nothing happened.

Can you give me an exact procedure (car, car upgrades, track, game mode) where the game is freezing so that I reproduce it and report it to EA? Right now, the game works great for me, so either it is fixed (latest firmware?) or I haven't found the place where it's freezing. Either way I have nothing to report to EA until I give them an exact procedure to reproduce the bug.

Thanks!

I must be a gluton for punishment... I spend more time trying to identify variables that may attribute to the freeze problem than playing career mode. But, I am getting good at Nordschleife and Bathhurst in fast cars - hotlapping in a Maserati GT1 on Bathhurst is a rush.
The only "fairly" consistant freeze I get is with the Lamborghini Murcielago (works converted) - I have been able to induce today on Nordschleife and Bathhurst. I believe my freezing is now repeatable with this car/tracks.

There is surely something sinister going on with S2U and the PS3 by the widely varying places it may freeze - VERY fast cars on CERTAIN tracks being at the top of the list it seems though.

EDIT: Can anyone with a works converted Lambo Murcielago get through Nordschleife "consistantly" - may freeze first try or take a fews tries and may need to be tried over a few different gaming sessions. Once is starts it seems to stick around.

And their reply:
"Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! I appreciate your thoughts on the issue. As previously mentioned the issue has been passed on to the developers. However, I can not guarantee a response, be it via email, or on the forum. Unfortunately, I am not a part of that team, so I simply can not make an official statement on the issue, aside from letting you know it has been sent up. I'm very sorry."

Oh well, his statement may not be official, but at least it's public now ;)

Edit:
I have completely overlooked this standard blurb in their replies:
"We will assume your issue has been resolved if we do not hear from you within 144 hours."

This must be the reason why there are no bugs in EA games... All problems magically disappear after 144 hours.

The other trick is that they fob you off with some scripted answer and update the ticket to "Waiting on Customer".

bmwisme, I'm wondering if high revving has anything to do with it. Try driving a car constantly at the rev limiter through the gears, then try short shifting and not going past redline and see if it crashes more with either method (especially in 5th gear +). I don't know why that would make any difference, but it might be worth a try...

Mine arent so random anymore. Evey time I open autolog now my game freezes as soon as the screen is displayed. Went from almost never freezing to all the time now. :ouch:

That's a thought but I don't think it is necessary to illustrate the problem. If the Lambo, for instance, will consistantly cause a freeze at 204 MPH (328 KPH) on Nordschleife then we have a "repeatable" freezing variable. The problem with most of the PS3 freezing claims is repeatability by the vast majority of gamers.

I had asked if anyone else was able to sucessfully run Nordschleife in the Lambo without a freeze but no one responded so I am somewhat "assuming" that it is repeatable (freeze) for most. Maybe I will start a thread for posting best times for Nordschleife in the Lamborgini Murceilogo. Maybe a mini-contest will help uncover the extent of the problem and work-a-round to get fast time. The winner would be FAST and LUCKY! The times would need to be validated with a sceenshot showing track/car/time/user ID. Anyone interested?

My top time was round 6:28 after I geared and added full downforce to limit top speed (topped at 202 MPH). There is alot of room to improve on this time even with this setup

I will try the Lambo tonight on Nords and see if I can repeat the freeze. 204 mph? If its true across the board, that would be easy to video.

Yep, I'm about to give up also...I don't think We'll ever see a patch fixing these crippling bugs!:grumpy:👎

I am just curious - regardless of another patch or not (hoping though)...

To those ready to give up on S2U, do you own all the top times (AutoLog) on all of the tracks/events?
Doesn't this give you something to beat (if you are not the top dog on all)?
Are "trophys" the primary draw for console gamers - once you have them you move on? I am clueless on this one as I don't even know what I have (or care).

Dunno about PSN trophies, stop caring about them a long time ago, in my Autolog I have yet many records to beat...in the MC12 in the GT1 Championship...if the game doesn't keep freezing.:ouch:
How can one feel enjoyment battling in Autolog with Your friends if You get freezes when doing it?

Well tried it yet again . The first time it froze on the second straight bit , about a minute or so into the lap . Second time i got round without a freeze . Third time again i got round without a freeze . Fourth time froze on the last straight . I gave up after that and switched off .:ouch:

You got a point - If you have AutoLog friends that only race the fastest cars on all of the tracks then the freezing issue could be a roadblock in competing - at least if you must have the top time.
Most of my friends seem to gradually work up to faster cars but if someone graps a Bugatti to set fast time I ignor and compete with the others on my Autolog list. There are also the events that everyone must use the same car - these are my favorites as everyone is on a level playing field. I haven't had any freezing on any of these events.
I myself have as good a time competing in a Mini or an exotic (and everything in between). Actually I usually stop at the GT3 cars (most fun for me).

It would be nice if it was possible to delete a fast time (own) from Autolog so it would be possible to drop down in class and compete with like-minded racers. Or, if they would implement a "car class" structure to Autolog - maybe in a future Autolog game.

THIS! I wish. Even if it wasnt off of PI just class. A,B,C,D. Sometimes you dont want to go with a faster car because all the autolog times are close with the same PI cars, so I end up not doing it again, as to not mess up the numbers lol.

The ones I hate are the ones you cannot tune. I have to change steering lock every time to do them.

I try.:sly:
But there are some crazy fast people out there.:scared:👍

It happens the same with me...but with that LE Murciélago I can't even have...:ouch:

I think the same, but those are long done, and I think I've hit a wall in most of them, than there is the only 1 lap try thing which is kind of annoying.:indiff:
Either way I focused on the GT3 and GT1 events.
First because I think they are amongst the best drives in the game.
Second because people can use different but leveled cars to battle for times-although in the GT1 Class the MC12 really RUUUULES!:)

I myself have as good a time competing in a Mini or an exotic (and everything in between). Actually I usually stop at the GT3 cars (most fun for me).

Me too! I'll add You, if You don't mind.
Which PSN account are You really using for Autolog purposes?

That wouldn't be necessary if they had leaderboards by vehicle...each one could battle for W.R. in is favourite drive...stock.Prologue style, or SCC, something GT5 is also lacking for instance.

Yeah hotlap events rock! Those are my favorites too. If you want BMW, you can add me too, if we arent friends already - just for those events and the legends championships sake!

Btw arvore, I still hate you for beating me with 0.001 sec 2 times!!! in the Japanese Retro Hotlap events! Just wait till I got time again to work on those next week! :D

Only 0.001 secs!!!:grumpy:
I've must been distracted!:D
Have to check those out again...:P

I play Shift 2 (though during the last month I stopped playing due to various responsibilities) just because I enjoy driving and racing in this game, much more than any other game. I don't care about trophies, completing the career, earning 'virtual money', or being at the top of Autolog times (I am sure there much faster virtual drivers than me). Right now, I don't see how I will ever become bored of Shift 2!

The freezing issue sure is a let down, but it's quite rare and for me it's not enough to spoil the experience I have with Shift 2. When I have fun with a game I try to see the glass half-full and not half-empty. If that changes I stop bothering with that game.

...in the GT1 Class the MC12 really RUUUULES!:)

I second that! 👍
I love the MC12, both in real life and in game!
Definitely my favorite supercar, it's wild, it's fast and it's completely impractical! :D
And to top it all off it is a true racing car, unlike some other supercars, and in my opinion has real racing pedigree!

Thanks everyone for reporting ways to reproduce the freezing issue consistently.
I will try them and If I get consistent freezes I will report the to EA.
I think (am I optimistic?) that if we find a way to consistently reproduce the issue we will increase our chances to get a new patch.

Not sure if you would like some more examples of game freezes, but on the EA site, I gave some specific examples:

I had a ticket in, but I gave up after I was told to stop watching replays after the races. I deleted the emails and information I had gathered concerning these issues. I still enjoy playing the game, but I won't go back for any more "service".
